This is an extension of and in addition to our existing Hug projects. We would very much like to make some bigger blankets for folk in need of comfort. We continue to make our traditional Woolly Hug blankets for our fellow Mumsnetters who have lost a child or partner these will always be at the heart of what we do. The Kinship Hugs mean we can help more folk in different circumstances.

We are asked from time to time to help families or individuals within our own woolly community, both on here and through our Facebook page going through incredibly difficult, bleak or sad times, by sending them a blanket full of love and comfort. We see these as helping folk who need support and compassion. Can you help us? We would be so very grateful.

We would love to collect 12 inch ( or 6) squares in Stylecraft Special DK to make blankets, and have some colour schemes to work from, see below. This will help us in compiling and donating to families. Just from these colours please, simple, complex, single colours, multi (within a collection), all very welcome indeed. We welcome knitters and crocheters equally to this project.

If anyone would like to donate funds to support this, please message us, we'd be so grateful, our projects truly cannot function without lovely donors. Thank you Thanks

Please contact us if you need the postal address, but it is Teddington Towers, please add a note with your name and say that squares are for Kinship Hugs.

Please also contact us if you'd like to join our Construction Crew who help magic squares into Kinship Hugs ( + Refugee blankets, Candy's Hugs, Chernobyl blankets)

Please no blocking and PLEASE sew in your pesky ends. All crafting info is also on our website. Thank you.

Do contact us if we can help any further. We are so grateful. THANK YOU! xxxx

I've started on these now. The colour palettes are gorgeous aren't they?!

bookbook · 19/06/2017 07:58

they are lovely. I have ordered some wool from the Vintage palette to do some :)

Costacoffeeplease · 19/06/2017 08:07

I have quite a few kinship squares ready to be posted, hopefully this week. Then I'll go back on to candy squares - unless you'd prefer more Manchester ones? I have colours for all of them Blush

Morning!

Think if we had a choice at this mo, would go Candy's or Kinship thanks Costa xx

I have ten houseguests at the mo which is lovely, but making woolly things almost impossible, am hopeful to be catching up with arrivals over the weekend!

I sent off nearly 50 kinship squares earlier this week so I'll go onto candy squares now

MadisonAvenue · 26/06/2017 12:20

Costa I've just seen them on Facebook, they're lovely!

Book it's the vintage palette I've been working from too. I've got colours which will fit other palettes though. I've got a much needed hair cut booked for Saturday morning so will pop into the wonderful wool shop nearby while I'm there, I need more Parchment.

Costacoffeeplease · 26/06/2017 16:01

Thanks - they're fairly plain but I guess they'll be background for some of the more creative squares Smile

On the way to the PO with a few squares.

Sairelou · 21/08/2017 20:40

Hello, newbie to crochet here!
I've been doing some squares and I swear that the ones I did a few weeks ago have shrunk! I am sure I measured them at 6" but I've just re-measured as I've finished another and they are now 5 1/2"! Does yarn shrink? I'm using Stylecraft special dk. They do stretch to 6" though. Would they still be ok to send or shall I re-do?

Oncewaswho · 21/08/2017 21:22

5.5" should be fine, I find anything 5.5-6.5" no problem when joining, if in doubt slightly too small is easier to join than slightly too big. If they go below 5.5" you can always just go round them with a row of doubles or trebles in the same or a coordinating colour before sending them. I'd do the same for any tiny ones I receive.

Thanks Once Smile

Sairelou any amount of squares are very gratefully received. Do you have the address yet?

I was lucky enough to win a Mumsnet competition and got an Amazon voucher so some wool has been purchased for some kinship hugs. Will get them started once I have finished my refugee squares from donated wool.
