This is an extension of and in addition to our existing Hug projects. We would very much like to make some bigger blankets for folk in need of comfort. We continue to make our traditional Woolly Hug blankets for our fellow Mumsnetters who have lost a child or partner these will always be at the heart of what we do. The Kinship Hugs mean we can help more folk in different circumstances.

We are asked from time to time to help families or individuals within our own woolly community, both on here and through our Facebook page going through incredibly difficult, bleak or sad times, by sending them a blanket full of love and comfort. We see these as helping folk who need support and compassion. Can you help us? We would be so very grateful.

We would love to collect 12 inch ( or 6) squares in Stylecraft Special DK to make blankets, and have some colour schemes to work from, see below. This will help us in compiling and donating to families. Just from these colours please, simple, complex, single colours, multi (within a collection), all very welcome indeed. We welcome knitters and crocheters equally to this project.

If anyone would like to donate funds to support this, please message us, we'd be so grateful, our projects truly cannot function without lovely donors. Thank you Thanks

Please contact us if you need the postal address, but it is Teddington Towers, please add a note with your name and say that squares are for Kinship Hugs.

Please also contact us if you'd like to join our Construction Crew who help magic squares into Kinship Hugs ( + Refugee blankets, Candy's Hugs, Chernobyl blankets)

Please no blocking and PLEASE sew in your pesky ends. All crafting info is also on our website. Thank you.

Do contact us if we can help any further. We are so grateful. THANK YOU! xxxx

Vitty that's lovely.

Well this is my finished 'punk' without the pins. Think my colour matching could do with some more work. Hey ho.

VittysCardigan · 06/05/2017 20:36

Thank you all

NormansNipple · 10/05/2017 17:56

Okki that's a lovely square Smile

Vitty I love your squirrel! I had to bail on the Juan blanket Sad I have an emotional overload at the moment. Trying to make squares good enough to comfort a bereaved family was tipping me over the edge. I have instead donated my wool to K&P so I have helped a bit.

NormansNipple · 10/05/2017 18:01

I've done some vintage squares. The granny square one is very wibbly wobbly. I'm hoping it will have good neighbours to straighten it out!

I'm quite proud of myself because I've been able to follow patterns in US terms for the first time AND I managed to do some magic circles Grin

Very good, Norman! And congratulations on conquering the magic ring. I find it vastly useful if initially fiddly.

for emotional overload. I can't do many Angel Hugs for similar reasons.

bookbook · 10/05/2017 22:06

Evening!
Norm - those are lovely - Could I ask which pattern you used for the first one ( with the pale green border) ?
I have done what I can with the colours I had available -
One 12" in Vintage palette , one 12" and two 6" in Spiced palette . I am hoping I can squeeze maybe another 2 6" in the Spiced
it is hard isn't it , and agree with MrsH

Thank you MrsH and bookbook Flowers

I'm doing the double loop magic ring. The one with the ring and slip knot is just impossible!

book the spiced palette is lovely isn't it. I think I have some of those colours too that I can dig into when I have used up my vintage ones Smile The pattern is from the same designer as the marigold one. It comes out a little smaller so I added rounds to make it up to 12"

everytrickonthehook.com/patterns-2/simbelmyne/

It's lucky this is a typed forum. If you asked me in person what pattern it was I could never pronounce it!

Justjibberish · 11/05/2017 10:24

©NormansNipple "Simbelmynë" - Fictional white flower in Lord of the Rings, also named Evermind, it grew in Rohan, primarily on the grave mounds of the Kings of Rohan. IIRC Bernard Hill talks in the DVD extras about the confusion over pronunciation, so you're in good company.

Spindelina · 11/05/2017 10:36

I do like the patterns (and photos!) on ETOTH - I hadn't seen that one before, Norman. Have a hand squeeze or shoulder bump from me, too.

From the yarn I've got for Candy's hugs, I can do
sherbert/petrol/lipstick/claret
lavender/plum/violet/meadow/petrol
plum/meadow/lime/saffron/spice/tomato/claret
Grass green/Kelly green/fuchsia/boysenberry/empire

There are some nice combinations in there my favourites are the slightly mad Agadoo singing party blanket stuff you can do with the last set

Justjibberish · 11/05/2017 10:56

Whoops, forgot to say Norman, beautiful square as well as being so appropriate.

NormansNipple · 11/05/2017 17:12

Thanks for the support Spin I'm just having a tough time right now. I found the patterns on that site really easy to follow, especially as I struggle with US terms. I'm looking forward to seeing your creations, they are always beautiful Smile Oh and I was most proud to have 2 of my squares in the party blanket! GrinGrin

Thank you Jibberish I love those films and know exactly what flowers they are! I never picked up on the name though. I have the extended blu ray set of the films with all the special extras (yes, I'm a nerd) So I can check on the correct pronunciation of my crochet square Grin

WitchDancer · 20/05/2017 09:27

It's gone very quiet on here - has everyone vanished under a woolly landslide?

WitchDancer · 20/05/2017 15:27

I've finally finished this one, which I started and then put on one side to do Juan's squares.

bookbook · 20/05/2017 16:44

I just used up spare Chernobyl wool Witch , and now gone back to Candys and a Little Hug, after doing Juan's.
The wool for Candys was donated, so I don't feel as if I can break into it to do other projects. It will have to wait until I can get another wool order sorted :)

Spindelina · 20/05/2017 17:42

I've been chugging away. I started this one at silly o clock in the morning a few days ago. And now when I look at it, I can't help but think of the new project.

The Kinship Hug Project.
WitchDancer · 20/05/2017 21:03

Hah! I won't be able to look st that the same way ever again Spin 😂

I've been chugging away doing just plain grannies in my Candy colours - I've tipped them all out and am doing one of each colour. If they're Kinship colours they go in that bag, if they're not then they go in the Candy bag (how sad am I that I need a bag for each project!).

I know what you mean Book, it's got a different feel when you're working donated wool.

NormansNipple · 22/05/2017 23:34

I've not been doing much lately. I have more wool in kinship colours but I'm mighty tempted to make some nice boobies too...

NormansNipple · 22/05/2017 23:35

Spin that's a lovely square Grin

Spindelina · 23/05/2017 05:42

Thanks! Yes, it's a square. Definitely a square. Couldn't be anything else Grin.

blueskyinmarch · 23/05/2017 06:14

I have some of the vintage colours. I haven't done any crochet in a while but might dig out the yarn and give it a go.

KnottyAndPistey · 25/05/2017 09:14

Morning and thank you so much in here, this is such a wonderful project, reaching folk we couldn't otherwise. two kinship are off this week, one to a 16 year old carer whose mum sadly died, and another to a family of a Woolly Hugger who having suffered a bereavement one day, had their two girls wrapped up in the bombing in Manchester, they are all fine there, but incredibly shaken.

It is a wonderful thing you do, thank you Thanks

NormansNipple · 27/05/2017 11:20

I've still only done the 3 squares but I'll post them off next week anyway. I've started on the Manchester squares. One of my sisters friends was there, she's ok but was quite close I think. The things she experienced were just horrific. I'm glad I have the opportunity to do something for anyone who needs a bit of comfort.

KnottyAndPistey · 28/05/2017 09:42

Thanks lovely Norm, just beyond awful, bless her heart xxxx
