Our lovely Zombie (who has said she doesn’t mind being outed as Candy) has long been a supporter of Woolly Hugs, bless her for it! Recently she made a very kind donation to us, and we would love to start an Ongoing project to honour this remarkable woman, who we have both had the privilege of meeting, dancing and drinking with. Wine Wine She is utterly fab-u-lous. :)

After a chat with Zombie we have made a plan which she loves. We would like to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care. They will be called Candy’s Hugs.

Zombie is a bright and beautiful woman so we have chosen a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give big hugs as she goes through treatments.

Will you join with us? If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, crack on! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our first posting date is to be January 28th. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch.

Thank you so much xx

Thanks

To whoever mentioned Bella Coco, I think my life as I knew it is now over

HemanOrSheRa · 09/01/2017 23:04

Please slow down you lot Grin! I'm only half way through my first square Blush. All of your squares look beautiful. My looks lumpy and a bit holey Confused and I've still got tge other half to massacre!

CaptainBraandPants · 09/01/2017 23:14

Fairy thank you for the link to the c2c tutorial on YouTube. I've just made my first ever c2c square. It isn't in approved colours as I'm still waiting for my yarn, but I'll use it as one of the squares for a cushion I am making for Ds1.
I loved doing it; it was the perfect balance of interesting, bout not too tricky. So once I got going, I could go it without thinking too much. I'm a c2c convert Grin
When my yarn arrives, expect lots of these squares from me.
I'm loving seeing everyone's work. Without exception, it's brilliant and you can feel the good vibes from them all. Smile

TheoriginalLEM · 09/01/2017 23:55

there is another bonus to this ctochet lark. It keeps my hands busy but i can still actually engage with the telly! So tonight i have learnt all about painted lady butterflies Grin Theyfly here all the way from Morocco you know!! and some sad but interesting truths about the British shipping industry.

usually im head down on lap top or phone and the tv is just a noise irritant in the background.

Downside - its waaay past my bedtime Shock

TheoriginalLEM · 09/01/2017 23:56

what is c2c?

MrsHathaway · 10/01/2017 00:05

c2c is sorcery "corner to corner" - see eg pp at 21.01.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 10/01/2017 02:04

MrsH

If you ever decide you are ready to conquer your Kryptonite C2C I will help you.
Just ask.
It's once you've done the first 3 rows and the pattern emerges you'll see how very easy it is!
and you'll kick yourself for not cracking it sooner and will be immensely grateful to me for nagging you

I'd go as far as to beg you to reconsider but for now I'll pretend I have some dignity
😉😂

To whoever mentioned Bella Coco, I think my life as I knew it is now over - You're welcome!!!

I'm a more mature lady 52 who only started crocheting 2 years ago and almost everything I know came from Bella Coco's tutorials. She shows a whole host of stitches and styles and he style of delivery is so easy to follow.

I also follow Attic 24 and have made several of her blankets - she has a very good blog and explains her stitches well. The bonus with Attic 24 is that she frequently posts the most amazing pictures of the Yorkshire Dales where she lives!!

I'm off to work shortly so no crafty crocheting for me until after tea Sad Sad Sad

VittysCardigan · 10/01/2017 06:46

I dreamt about crochet! What have you lot done to me!Grin sadly I have to to work so no hooking for me until this evening

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 10/01/2017 07:05

Good morning!

Speaking of fptc, it took me AGES to actually "get" that stitch. Does anyone else have a Bane Of Their Lives stitch which they dread seeing in a pattern? Otoh, one I could not only easier than it looks but really therapeutic was the rsc- love it!

Pengling · 10/01/2017 07:17

@AliceInUnderpants thanks for the pattern link, I know what my next square is going to be! Puff stitch is my favourite stitch Smile

Least favourite stitch? Bphdc without a doubt!

MrsHathaway · 10/01/2017 08:08

Lol Zing. It's a counting issue and ain't no way those diamonds could ever be teased to a six-inch square.

Unless ... can you teach me to count?

SecretSix · 10/01/2017 08:19

Morning! Can you PM me please about making a donation/order so someone who can knit can crack on? Mum is going to teach me again but I fear it may be slow progress so best if I contribute a faster way! Mum will do some too though so you'll get those faster - can you let me know about how to send them in too?

Mummylin · 10/01/2017 09:41

This thread has given me the kick start I needed to finally get around to sorting out all the stuff I had here of my mums ! I was looking for the needles and crochet hooks and one thing led to another, so this has served another good purpose. Just waiting for my wool now.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 10/01/2017 09:59

MrsH

Can you count to 6?
If yes, you shall be just fine😂
I don't like doing the chain 6 at the beginning of each row, I admit, because I loathe stitching into chains, but I make the loops just an ickle bit bigger.

What's that? That it will distort the sides? It would - but I do the next two squares with a slightly tighter tension to compensate.
Nice, straight sides - ta-dah!
And I actually find the chain 3 - 3 tr pattern very rhythmic & soothing.

Showing off - the C2C scarf (and matching hat) made for my mum for Christmas (King Cole Riot).
It's over 2ms long. Loved working on it!

MadisonAvenue · 10/01/2017 10:35

I had such an unproductive night last night. I started several squares and frogged them all. Just picked up one I started at 1am and that's now gone the same way.
Think I'll dry my hair, make some coffee and come back to it afresh.

MadisonAvenue · 10/01/2017 10:36

Btw LOVE the scarf Zing!

bookbook · 10/01/2017 10:43

Morning :)
such a fabulous scarf and hat Zing - almost makes me want to start crotchet again- I haven't done it in years.
I am at my DD's - ( last night and today) babysitting. I managed to knit square last night,, as I brought just enough to do that - but foolishly didn't bring anything else, so will have to wait until tonight to get going again.
I am being - or trying to be - methodical. I have done 2 red, 2 orange and tonight will start on yellow.( I am doing the Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain, so I then have the colours already started to do a rainbow ). It saves me having to make up my mind from al the lovely wool in front of me Grin
MrsMozart - you are being so good, sending wool to another crafter !

BaggyCheeks · 10/01/2017 10:43

I learnt from Bella Coco too! I love Attic24 too, I'm currently working on a neat ripple blanket for a DF's new baby from her pattern.

I've never tried C2C before... Maybe once I'm finished the baby blanket and have made a couple of squares for this I'll give it a bash Smile

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 10/01/2017 11:49

Knotty would you check Woollyhugs' facebook page inbox please? I really hope I've helped...

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 10/01/2017 12:57

Madison

Why did you need to frog?
What is frustrating you?
Can you show a photo so a solution can be found to the problem?

Alwaysyes · 10/01/2017 13:27

Beautiful wool has just arrived, thank you whoever donated it. I shall do my best.

MadisonAvenue · 10/01/2017 13:42

Zing I think I was just tired and my concentration had gone. Back in the swing now though and halfway through a square Grin
Thanks anyway

AGnu · 10/01/2017 14:04

I ordered wool 2 days ago from Wool Warehouse but have no confirmation email & it's not listed in my orders on their website - should I be concerned?! I've got a PayPal email & it's showing up on my PayPal as a payment to them but nothing actually from them aside from an email acknowledging my new account. Confused

herebehippos · 10/01/2017 14:07

Hi
I am happy to crochet for this cause- was buying wool today so have added some balls from the colour paĺate to my basket.
