Our lovely Zombie (who has said she doesn’t mind being outed as Candy) has long been a supporter of Woolly Hugs, bless her for it! Recently she made a very kind donation to us, and we would love to start an Ongoing project to honour this remarkable woman, who we have both had the privilege of meeting, dancing and drinking with. Wine Wine She is utterly fab-u-lous. :)

After a chat with Zombie we have made a plan which she loves. We would like to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care. They will be called Candy’s Hugs.

Zombie is a bright and beautiful woman so we have chosen a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give big hugs as she goes through treatments.

Will you join with us? If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, crack on! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our first posting date is to be January 28th. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch.

Thank you so much xx

Thanks

My uncle-in-law's daughter has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. It's wonderful what you're doing☺ I've done a few squares and will do some more - have loads of stylecraft oddments. Can you let me know where to post them please.

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 09/01/2017 21:01

Vittys

I did 12" squares and I'm quite chuffed with them.

I love Bella Coco's youtube tutorials - they are simple to follow and she goes at a pace that is easy to keep up with.

Yay, glad my donation made it to you.

I can't crochet or knit for toffee (hate toffee anyway, bad for the teeth) but can offer moral support and if that's not too offputting?

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 09/01/2017 21:06

Firefly - I think you're right. I'm going to have to frog it and add a contrast colour to finish it nicely.

I was actually really annoyed today that I had to go in to work - I've enjoyed a blissful weekend of crochet. Roll on next Saturday!!!

VittysCardigan · 09/01/2017 21:09

Thank you Fairy will have a watch when I've finished my current granny square

Chocolateorangegoblin · 09/01/2017 21:14

I received my wool today thank you to whoever sent it!

Sittingunderafrostysky · 09/01/2017 21:19

Well, I've started! First time I've picked up needles in over 10 years, and it's all flooding back to me.

DH says it is very calming, listening to me mutter to myself.

TheWoollybacksWife · 09/01/2017 21:23

Fairy if you undo 2 or 3 rounds and then crochet it up again then you may find that you have created enough "give" in your yarn to do the last eight stitches.

AliceInUnderpants · 09/01/2017 21:43

@Pengling, the puffy flower is here
redagapeblog.com/2015/12/29/crochet-pretty-puffy-square-tutorial/

I actually properly love it and am going to have to do a blanket using them at some point Grin

MrsMozart · 09/01/2017 21:48

Ah! I've done it!

Am feeling ridiculously pleased with myself because drum roll I managed to recreate an order with Wool Warehouse and have it sent to someone else Grin Admittedly four colours short of the first order as they were out of stock (I'll order those when they're back in), but still, for me that's amazing Grin

I've had a pants time, though not as pants as many, so ame pleased to have been able to help a tiny tiny bit.

TheoriginalLEM · 09/01/2017 21:48

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 09/01/2017 22:26

Vitty they're ACE!! Do you think it's too late to get my hook out now?

Yddraigoldragon · 09/01/2017 22:27

Do it do it do it Pop!

VittysCardigan · 09/01/2017 22:29

Hmmm, that depends Pop, do you actually need any sleep tonight? I feel if you get started now it might be a very late night Smile

VittysCardigan · 09/01/2017 22:30

Is it too late to attempt a c2c for the first time?

MadisonAvenue · 09/01/2017 22:31

Love seeing all of these squares!

Pop, if you get your hook I'll get my needles. Who needs sleep anyway?

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 09/01/2017 22:33

This thread is an extremely bad influence on me...my bed is now covered in yarn scraps and DH has fallen asleep on the sofa! Grin

Bassetfeet · 09/01/2017 22:33

Love seeing the pics and the warmth from this thread. Will start mine once hands behave .
Just a ponder . Do you think it may be an idea to link to Lucy at Attic24 ?
Her blankets are superb and vibrant .Dont want to link but tutorials online and the wool warehouse spoken of does packs of certain colours

Knotty and Pistey you must be exhausted . So I get that this idea might have you both nose down into the gin glass for respiteand the last thing you need .

It's been a while since the sense of community and working together here is so tangible . Thank you Zombie . Thanks.
And all those who sort ,sew ,knit a comforting blanket .The treck to the Post Office and back . The logistics of making it work so well.

Yddraigoldragon · 09/01/2017 22:34

I have my hook out, but (boo hiss) I am trying to finish another project.

Letting the side down. But tomorrow is another day hehe

Yddraigoldragon · 09/01/2017 22:36

I think Lucy and the other stylecraft bloggers should be linked. As long as you don't mention I ransacked my moorland pack to make squares. :)

AliceInUnderpants · 09/01/2017 22:42

Here are the six that I have made since yesterday. All are 6 inches. Going to do a heap more of the bright ones then get them sent off.
The pastel one is so pretty and is in the colour selection but am not sure if it fits the bill for the 'bright' idea. Can someone confirm if it's ok and if so I'll get working on more in those colours too.

Woolly Hugs threads start in _Chat for traffic, and are moved to Woolly Hugs topic once they've got going. Don't worry about losing all this brilliance.

BraveHathCat says relax and watch me learning to FPtr and BPtr.
