Mia’s Wood is an area of woodland bought in memory of beautiful red headed Mia who was just 13 months old when she very sadly died in October 2011. If you have read MiaAlexandrasMummy’s threads about her daughter, you will not have failed to be moved by her love which pours out.

In her memory, Mia's family are developing this natural space for the local community around Milton Keynes and in Buckinghamshire to love and enjoy, and already trees and flowers have been planted. They have great plans to take this forward and develop the site further, making it truly magical. It really is such an inspirational, fantastic project, and in September we are planning a fundraiser to help them do this.

What the family say about Mia's Wood
Mia's Wood hopes to pass on Mia's love of nature to local families, children and young people, and especially to bereaved families. At Mia's Wood, we want to create an environment which promotes an innocent wonder of nature, to stimulate curiosity and imagination, to encourage children to preserve our fragile natural woodland through both visits and special events. For bereaved families in particular, we would like to think that visits to Mia's Wood will provide both hope and solace.

Just beautiful.

Here's how to join in…
We are going to run an online Woodland themed Craft sale in a very similar way to our successful Christmas and Easter fundraisers. We will also be auctioning a beautiful Autumnal and Woodland themed Woolly Hug as part of our fundraiser.

Information for Crafters.
We are looking to make and sell small/lightweight Woodland/ Autumnal items, sewn, crocheted, knitted, crafted, the how is up to you! To keep postage costs to a minimum we ask that ideally anything made can be sent on to a buyer in a Large envelope, which is 35cm by 25cm, no thicker than 2.5cm, 750g max. Or smaller obvs :)

So we are thinking :
Leafy and trees
Squirrels
Snails
Rabbits
They have sheeeeeeep!
Birds
Foxes
Toadstools
Hedgehogs
Mice
Other lovelies :)

There is a wealth of ideas to be found on this fabulous Pinterest page set up by Knotty, see here. Enjoy!

Mhw, I can't knit in the round with DPNs but I can using a circular and the magic loop. Much easier and less fiddly.

Mhw02 · 12/07/2014 17:08

Thanks, Fizzy. I'll give it a little longer - it would be rather wimpish and pathetic of me to say "uh, I can't do this" after only an hour of trying...but I may end up giving circular needles a try! ALL the suitable patterns I've found other than the already completed rabbit require knitting in the round.

(Rabbit posted upthread now has a hat and dress!)

PastaandCheese · 12/07/2014 18:43

Just marking my place whilst I think what I might be able to make.

HaveToWearHeels · 12/07/2014 20:44

OK so my Robin turned into a bluebird when I realised I had no brown felt. He is a bit scruffy as I wasn't happy with his tail so mucked about with it. Just need some seed beads for his eyes.

Birdie! Loves him Smile

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/07/2014 11:33

Awwwwww Birdie! [heart]

Loving how lots of posts are being duplicated, don't know if it's an MN glitch but am getting PMs coming through in multiples. Last one came through 7 times!

I know what my next crafty project is for our Sale, am making bunny bunting. It will look surprisingly similar to the Easter pastel version, only [Lightbulb] in Autumnal shades!

Right Bunnneeeeeeeze, here I come :) Brew

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/07/2014 07:53

Multi tasking last night. Oooo and there was gin involved too. Bunnies, for bunting :). Well that's the first Anyhoo.

Galena · 14/07/2014 08:03

That's why they kept falling over yesterday - they were tripping over the giant bunny!

Will we be able to tell which bunnies came after lots of gin?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/07/2014 08:53

Told my bunny to play nice, but you see that poor blooded German footy fellow?

pantshavenames · 14/07/2014 17:22

Finally worked out something that didn't involve the quite frankly terrifying amigurumi. I have a pattern for a red riding hood and wolf from simply crochet that I have been getting out everyday and looking at and bottling out of. I thought I could make these into little purses with a plain granny on the back. I feel I should be able to make a sheep one as well but we'll see.

Galena · 14/07/2014 19:04

Why is amigurumi scary?

pantshavenames · 14/07/2014 19:27

Why? It looks petite and precise and I am neither Grin and I don't know how to join 3d shapes with out wonkiness and swearing .if I can I will try the wolf but I only have this week before school breaks up and I have eagle eyed DD around who apparently I promised I wouldn't do anything but her blanket..

TheWoollybacksWife · 14/07/2014 19:45

Pants I have been crocheting for over 40 years and I can't get the hang of Amigurami. I'm also neither dainty or precise Grin

GlaikitFizzog · 14/07/2014 19:51

Amigurami is peasey! I only started hookery at the beginning of the year.

These are my first forays into amigurami. All done around March time.

Honestly, I thought I would never get crochet, and was firmly in the knitting camp, but I've been converted!

MiaAlexandrasmummy · 14/07/2014 21:21

I'm loving all the pics here. And the stories of your crafty challenges are making me laugh, as are the curious multiple posting moments. Thanks Cake
