Mia’s Wood is an area of woodland bought in memory of beautiful red headed Mia who was just 13 months old when she very sadly died in October 2011. If you have read MiaAlexandrasMummy’s threads about her daughter, you will not have failed to be moved by her love which pours out.

In her memory, Mia's family are developing this natural space for the local community around Milton Keynes and in Buckinghamshire to love and enjoy, and already trees and flowers have been planted. They have great plans to take this forward and develop the site further, making it truly magical. It really is such an inspirational, fantastic project, and in September we are planning a fundraiser to help them do this.

What the family say about Mia's Wood
Mia's Wood hopes to pass on Mia's love of nature to local families, children and young people, and especially to bereaved families. At Mia's Wood, we want to create an environment which promotes an innocent wonder of nature, to stimulate curiosity and imagination, to encourage children to preserve our fragile natural woodland through both visits and special events. For bereaved families in particular, we would like to think that visits to Mia's Wood will provide both hope and solace.

Just beautiful.

Here's how to join in…
We are going to run an online Woodland themed Craft sale in a very similar way to our successful Christmas and Easter fundraisers. We will also be auctioning a beautiful Autumnal and Woodland themed Woolly Hug as part of our fundraiser.

Information for Crafters.
We are looking to make and sell small/lightweight Woodland/ Autumnal items, sewn, crocheted, knitted, crafted, the how is up to you! To keep postage costs to a minimum we ask that ideally anything made can be sent on to a buyer in a Large envelope, which is 35cm by 25cm, no thicker than 2.5cm, 750g max. Or smaller obvs :)

So we are thinking :
Leafy and trees
Squirrels
Snails
Rabbits
They have sheeeeeeep!
Birds
Foxes
Toadstools
Hedgehogs
Mice
Other lovelies :)

There is a wealth of ideas to be found on this fabulous Pinterest page set up by Knotty, see here. Enjoy!

It's ace gameofscones. I want it to come and live at my house. DD will love it.

I'm in holiday the weekend of the sale but there is wifi so I'll be trying to keep a close eye!

Jacksmania · 28/08/2014 16:14

Accidentally posted this on KN's thread - has my little flower with the jade beads that needs a brooch thingie sewn on arrived safely? And the square for KN?

Strawdolly · 28/08/2014 18:44

Is there a link to the FB page?

GameOfScones · 28/08/2014 19:05

If you type MNWoollyhugs into Facebook you should find it Strawdolly Smile

It's the MN bit that I always forget when I'm looking for it.

PurpleFrog · 28/08/2014 19:19

I have posted my stuff today. It is slightly late as I had hoped to include my latest blanket in the parcel, but dealing with the peskies is taking longer than anticipated, so I thought I had better send it on its way!

(Just as well I read this over as peskies had changed to perkiness! Hmm)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/08/2014 06:18

at perkiness

Am I too late to send something? I have a couple of things and hadn't realised when the last posting date was!Blush

Jacksmania · 29/08/2014 14:51

Crap, I'm getting worried. I posted the brooch and the square for KnittingNovice the week of Aug 4 (forgot which day exactly), because I didn't see that you were going on holiday until after I'd posted it. So it's had three weeks to get to you. It normally takes a week.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/08/2014 18:49

To all you talented, beautiful crafters here -

I have seen the Mia's Wood WoollyHug tonight in all its glory. It glows. Its autumnal colours are absolutely perfect.

Just thank you. You are truly, truly amazing.

That you have taken so much time out of your busy lives, to create such a wonderful array of woodland objects for the Mia's Wood Auction is breathtaking.

That you care.

That you show me that Mia lives on.

I am writing as I cry, because out of such sadness at the loss of Mia, I have found so many unexpected friends here. MrMia, MiasGrandad and my whole family have been astounded and grateful at the generosity of spirit shown to me.

And huge, heartfelt thanks to Knotty and Pistey for all your time in coordinating all this activity. You two are very special.

You all are.

Mia would be, should be, four this month.

Love and light,
MiaAlexandrasmummy xx

KnottyLocks · 04/09/2014 23:55

Oh, it is a real honour to help support Mia' s legacy. We hope we do her and you proud.

Much love xxx

Mhw02 · 05/09/2014 18:15

I can't see the three things I sent in any of the three preview albums? Just thought I'd check seeing as the sale starts tonight!
