Mia’s Wood is an area of woodland bought in memory of beautiful red headed Mia who was just 13 months old when she very sadly died in October 2011. If you have read MiaAlexandrasMummy’s threads about her daughter, you will not have failed to be moved by her love which pours out.

In her memory, Mia's family are developing this natural space for the local community around Milton Keynes and in Buckinghamshire to love and enjoy, and already trees and flowers have been planted. They have great plans to take this forward and develop the site further, making it truly magical. It really is such an inspirational, fantastic project, and in September we are planning a fundraiser to help them do this.

What the family say about Mia's Wood
Mia's Wood hopes to pass on Mia's love of nature to local families, children and young people, and especially to bereaved families. At Mia's Wood, we want to create an environment which promotes an innocent wonder of nature, to stimulate curiosity and imagination, to encourage children to preserve our fragile natural woodland through both visits and special events. For bereaved families in particular, we would like to think that visits to Mia's Wood will provide both hope and solace.

Just beautiful.

Here's how to join in…
We are going to run an online Woodland themed Craft sale in a very similar way to our successful Christmas and Easter fundraisers. We will also be auctioning a beautiful Autumnal and Woodland themed Woolly Hug as part of our fundraiser.

Information for Crafters.
We are looking to make and sell small/lightweight Woodland/ Autumnal items, sewn, crocheted, knitted, crafted, the how is up to you! To keep postage costs to a minimum we ask that ideally anything made can be sent on to a buyer in a Large envelope, which is 35cm by 25cm, no thicker than 2.5cm, 750g max. Or smaller obvs :)

So we are thinking :
Leafy and trees
Squirrels
Snails
Rabbits
They have sheeeeeeep!
Birds
Foxes
Toadstools
Hedgehogs
Mice
Other lovelies :)

There is a wealth of ideas to be found on this fabulous Pinterest page set up by Knotty, see here. Enjoy!

I will post in a week or so, but I have a tee cosy with matching mug cosy, some woodland baby pixie booties, book marks and if I get time some hedgyhogs.

PurpleFrog · 30/07/2014 13:59

I returned from holiday at the weekend, so am ready to get down to business now. I already have some Wols and Hedgyhogs "without portfolio" that would be perfect for this project. I will look them out this week. The Hedgyhogs will soon put paid to those pesky slugs that are popping up everywhere! Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/07/2014 14:39

I think I might just have my eye on a slug now too... Gorgeous yarny goodies, ladies!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/08/2014 09:45

Thinking it might be wise to ask for a Pause in Posting, as I'll shortly be away, and can’t guarantee there will be anyone able to take woolly treasures in. If folk try to avoid posting from tomorrow until Mon 25th Aug. Obviously given our deadlines, if you need to post in that time, please do, if it can’t fit through the door, I’ll go along and collect it from the PO as soon as poss.

Huge thanks to everyone Thanks

September so good timing.

Galena · 01/08/2014 21:33

I may have to post on the 15th or so and hope Hedgey doesn't get lost in the Post Office.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/08/2014 21:37

I have got quite a big letterbox

Blush Grin

Flatten him as much as is decent and he'll fit through, he'll be fiiine and THANK YOU xx

TheWoollybacksWife · 01/08/2014 22:03

Galena if you are concerned then you can post to me and I'll post yours with mine after the 25th. PM me for my address if you need it.

Galena · 02/08/2014 06:45

Thanks for the offer. I shall try squashing and posting and put a note on the outside to try squashing through letterbox if nobody is in... I'm sure he'll bounce back! Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/08/2014 07:14

Awwwwww. I'll re inflate him, no worries!

KnottyLocks · 02/08/2014 08:54

Morning !

I have WiFi...temporarily.

Galena, you could post him to me after the 12th if you'd prefer.

We'll have a few days where her and me will both be elsewhere, so apologies in advance

IonaMumsnet · 02/08/2014 21:12

Evening folks! We've been asked to move this thread to the Woollyhugs board so it doesn't disappear in Chat. Keep up the woolly work. We're in love with the woolly slugs! You're a very talented and kind bunch.

Galena · 02/08/2014 22:51

Knotty, if I post to you, do you then need to post it on to Pistey? If so I'll stick with the squashing plan - no point paying twice to post! It'll all work out fine, I'm sure!

KnottyLocks · 03/08/2014 11:18

No, I don't. Can keep the little fella here until a new home is found Smile

KnottyLocks · 03/08/2014 11:20

Thanks, Iona. X
