Woolly Hugs: A Blanket for TrinityRhino.

We have heard the shocking and devastating news that TrinityRhino's DP died suddenly this weekend. Very sadly, many of us will also know that Trinity tragically lost her DH four years ago. Trinity's thread is here
She and her girls are in our thoughts and we send them much love.

We've offered to make them a blanket in the hope it may give whatever comfort it can.

So we are now asking for help once again Thanks

Pistey (RatherBeOnThePiste) will co-ordinate and I'll be here to answer any queries you may have. We need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool).
If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc.

Thank you so much Thanks

The wool we are using

  • James C. Brett Pure Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (being discontinued, but still some around)
  • Rowan Cashsoft DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK (new to us)

Just from these please as they are very similar and we know they can be combined for wash and wear. These are all easily available online, try Deramores, Laughing Hens, RKMWools, AWoollyTail, WiseBadger.

    The Colours
Warm purples, blues, silvers and cream
If choosing cream please go for either the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013 or the James Brett no 7
Green and pink but only for embellishments

    Suggestions for motifs
    *Fishing, fish and the sea
    *Themes from nature, flowers
    *A submarine, a gecko
*A teddy bear, a crocodile (for Trin's teddy bear in a crocodile suit)
*We have their initials if you would like to help with this, please PM Pistey.

    Thanks

Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Previous blankets can be seen on our website We also have a Facebook page MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you like or follow us you'll be updated on progress via your feed. If looking for ideas for a pattern, there are many linked to from our website under Crafting

When ready for posting, please PM Pistey for info.

As always, we thank you so much for your support. Thanks

I have blue and cream donated wool via Pistey for Teamsurvival. (Which I haven't started yet.) Shall I do 2 squares for teamsurvival and 2 for TrinityRhino? Would that be OK?

That would be perfect, Ellen. Thanks

quick question.

If we're no greens is a dark teal (db cashmerino) in or out? I think it's blue and so does dh but some might define it as green

Pistey,
I'm about to order more wool through Deramores (who ship fantastically fast), but shipping to Canada is quite pricey so I'd like to order more than just one or two balls of yarn, to make it worth it. I was going to order the Artesano purple (looks gorgeous), but could you recommend some other colours I should get, that are popular for blankets? For example, I read where you said that if choosing cream, to please get Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013 - so that seems to be a colour we're using consistently, but I can't find it anywhere anymore :(

Is there another colour that would pretty much work in most blankets, so I could stock up a little and not pay oodles for shipping two balls of yarn each time?

Cripes, I just read what I wrote there and I sound like the worst cheapskate Blush - sorry Blush

Jacks, our basic palette usually has blues. Purple and green generally appear too.

Yarn Box have been in touch.

They are offering a discount to Mumsnet Woolly Hugs crafters.

Artesano Superwash DK(one of our suggested blanket wools) is available in all colours on their website for £4.25 a ball.

Discount code MNWH will give our knitters or donors another 10% off until the end of July.

Thank you, Yarn Box!

Hm, I wonder how much their shipping is, maybe I'll order from them. Ok, purple, greens and blues it is :)

Do you have any thoughts on which brand of yarn/shade of beige you're going to start using when Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013 isn't available anymore?
