The continuing story of how Team Woolly Hugs does running. All newcomers very welcome!

Our first fabulous runner, PiggyPlumPie has been there, done that and quite literally has the tshirt (gorgeous btw) and we are looking forward to more runs taking place round the country, and further afield maybe?

We are doing this to support the Billie's Blanket Project being run by the Woolly Hugs community, see here This project was launched as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday. In Billie's name, and through World Child Cancer we will send little blankets to children who are suffering from cancer, and who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after. Our first batch has already gone to Malawi, the next will go to Ghana and Bangladesh.

We are helping raise funds so that alongside Billie's Blankets, we can send a donation to World Child Cancer. Money is so scarce, they really have so little. There will be other fundraising events this year, but we are RUNNING!

These are where the 5K runs will takeplace, they are all over. But even if you run round the block and someone sponsors you to do so, it all counts!

Our Just Giving Page is here. Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in. At this moment we are up to £1,116.33, where will be be when this thread is full?!

Enter established events soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you are running so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things, the support here is awesome and we love Piggy's idea of tying a woolly bracelet on to run, then we are all with you as you go. Smile

MNWoollyHugs on Facebook - come and find us, you can still remain anonymous Smile

For novices....Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  • Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.

  • Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.

  • Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.

  • Open front door and go outside.

  • Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support.

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Totally understand, but don't worry, there is no pressure to run. If it comes to it Frank and I will walk the 10K with you. We will get you to the end X

You will be doing well by doing it and i promise we will make sure there is gin at the end for you!

quite like the idea of you running in an emu suit

Otherworld · 13/05/2013 12:18

Hi all - just marking my place and letting you know I'm still here.

And just a little wave to all the people I've been telling about my Southampton Big Fun Run for Woolly Hugs - I'm busy outing myself in RL as a MNer. Think a name-change and back to obscurity is in order once this run is done. Hopefully some money will come as a result so it's worth it.

BIWI · 13/05/2013 12:38

Aw, MrsDeVere - so sorry to hear that you're not well.

You will do it, you know you will! And with the lovely Pistey and her Krew there, wafting gin under your nose, you're bound to get round quickly.

Don't panic, and please don't put yourself under that amount of pressure.

xxx

£1200+ on the JustGiving page and all those beautiful Billie's Blankets. MrsDV, you've done so much already. If you're not up to running, everyone will understand. But if you want to do it, if you're determined to do it, we'll be there to walk round with you, or carry you if needs be :)

Awwww MrsDV. Big hugs. Hope you feel better soon xxx

We'll look after you whatever it takes.

KnottyLocks · 13/05/2013 21:41

Hey MrsDV, look at what's been achieved so far. Amazing already.

Would the promise of a Smirnoff ice or 5 at the finish line help??

Big hugs, lovely x

Mouseface · 13/05/2013 22:48

Hey all

MrsDe - mwahs x 1,000,000 to you. I'm sorry that you are suffering, not nice Sad xx

You don't have to be fit, you just have to be there, you can be pulled along as others have said, surely someone can stick some wheels on a sofa? Grin Don't worry, you will do it, you'll find away because you are an amazing and wonderful lady :) xx

Sorry, I've still not sorted myself out - we've been in Manchester all day at St. Mary's Genetics dept.

We were hoping for some long awaited blood results for Nemo but alas "they were lost" FFS. They managed to get saliva which was a minor miracle and fab so here's hoping.

However, they managed to get a decent saliva swab from my scared little boy.

They stripped him down to his nappy, examined him and looked at his back, which he's said it hurts him for some time. DH said he was copying me and of course that is feasible but I knew there was more to it because it was all of the time. I knew there was more to it.

Turns out he has asymmetrical shoulder blades, rather severely as it happens and a curve in his spine, plus a shorter than normal distance between his lower skull/base of his neck and his shoulders. We don't know what that means yet. But I am NOT GOOGLING!!

But he's been ace, a real little super star. Sorry to not read back properly and catch up but it's been a heck of a day and I'm shattered, he's only just gone off to sleep...... over excited with his present (Cars 2 Micro Drifters Race track) for which the bloody cars cost a Squillianton pounds from some places and the rest are duplicates! Grr.

Anywho, will be back in the morning xxx

mouseface that sounds like a hard day xxx

I shall be going for a run later today, but mainly popped in to say my top for the run has arrived :) i shall pop a pic of it on fb and link to the woollyhugs page and the just giving page :)

TantrumsAndBalloons · 14/05/2013 14:48

MrsD I hope you are feeling better.
And it doesn't matter whether you walk, run or crawl round the actual race.
We are all proud of you. And you and Billie have inspired lots and lots of people to do something.

This thread and your story and wanted to do something, anything, to help has had me actually running. I can't quite believe it myself.
My ds1 has a mission in life now Grin
He reckons that will both run the bloody marathon next year to raise money for World Child cancer if we can

And I ran 5k in 25.47 today Grin

So, feel better soon. And me and ds1 will come and carry you round the race if we have to Grin

MegBusset · 14/05/2013 16:17

MrsDV hope you feeling a bit better, and Mouseface hope Nemo is too :)

Tantrums that is a great time and you are v brave to go for the marathon!

Did w12 r1 (3 x 18 mins) this afternoon and it was TOUGH but at least I made it round without needing the loo!

Tantrums - brilliant time!

More shin pain here. I think I'll have to go to see the osteopath/sports doctor to check out properly what's going on/what I should be doing.

Mouseface · 15/05/2013 10:42

BIWI - sounds like shin splints? OUCHY!!! Sorry you're in so much pain, they are awful x

Today is the day I'm going to sort my JG pages out and my links etc.... it's admin day.

DH is not around at all until later, so I'm solo for most of the day, I have to get me furry butt into gear NOW!! Whilst MiniMouse and Nemo are at school.

Hope you're all okay xx

Mouseface · 15/05/2013 10:45

Well done Tantrums :) xx

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/05/2013 11:10
