The continuing story of how Team Woolly Hugs does running. All newcomers very welcome!

Our first fabulous runner, PiggyPlumPie has been there, done that and quite literally has the tshirt (gorgeous btw) and we are looking forward to more runs taking place round the country, and further afield maybe?

We are doing this to support the Billie's Blanket Project being run by the Woolly Hugs community, see here This project was launched as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday. In Billie's name, and through World Child Cancer we will send little blankets to children who are suffering from cancer, and who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after. Our first batch has already gone to Malawi, the next will go to Ghana and Bangladesh.

We are helping raise funds so that alongside Billie's Blankets, we can send a donation to World Child Cancer. Money is so scarce, they really have so little. There will be other fundraising events this year, but we are RUNNING!

These are where the 5K runs will takeplace, they are all over. But even if you run round the block and someone sponsors you to do so, it all counts!

Our Just Giving Page is here. Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in. At this moment we are up to £1,116.33, where will be be when this thread is full?!

Enter established events soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you are running so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things, the support here is awesome and we love Piggy's idea of tying a woolly bracelet on to run, then we are all with you as you go. Smile

For novices....Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  • Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.

  • Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.

  • Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.

  • Open front door and go outside.

  • Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

    YOU are RUNNING!

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support.

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Sorry, lost track of this thread! Just back from a 5.5 mile run. The first 3 miles were brilliant, the last couple were a bit of a slog. Probably due to a half mile or so of incline at the 3ish mile point. Glad to hear the 10k route is fairly flat!

Ooh, and I crocheted last night for the first time since I was about 10. So now I'm a double threat, running and crocheting Grin

P.S. Does anyone else turn a fetching shade of beetroot when running? Even worse in the warmer weather.

DOTD ah discussions of the day... It took me a minute to get that...

I have running injury well not an injury as such but its caused by running. The other day i got an odd blister on my toe right on my nail bed iyswim? Anyway it didnt hurt so i left it alone. The blister has gone but the fluid in the blister went under the nail and lifted my toe nail up from the nail bed. Again no pain but i noticed today that the nail has died and half of it, going straight doen the middle had lifted up and was very snaggy so i had to cut it off before i caught it and pulled the whole nail off. It doesnt hurt at all just looks gross not having toe nail where you should. I shall protect it with a plaster when i run but it seems fine. My mum assures me it will grow back and is quite common in runners... See i have an official running condition so i must be a legitimate runner Grin

Wk 11 run one tomorrow, plan to get up and go running at 7-7:30 before it gets too warm.

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine :)

Hello lovelies :)

I am getting organised now that Nemo's birthday and DLA renewal are done and dusted!

So, as far as I know, I need to -

    • Set up a Just Giving Page.

    • Decide a time, date and destination/route/venue organised.

    • Advertise it in the village everywhere!

    • I'm going to get a t-shirt printed up with WCC, Billie's first name on

    • Link everything to FB, MN and the world.

    • Set a minimum target because it will give me something to work towards even more!

    • Erm........................... what else???? Grin

Well done biwi Grin its a great feeling isnt it?!

I am just in from wk11 run one. 9km in an hour and three mins! Felt like hard work at times but that was because it was hot i think. I shall do my next run at a cooler time of day.

mouse i used a company called kustom clothing to get my top printed, they were really lovely i spoke to them explaining the run etc and what i wanted on it and they emailed me with a print out of the design etc and were so helpful and lovely. I will put the link up later if you want?

Right i need a ahower....

Yes please Mad xx :)

Do I need my own Just Giving page or a link to the Woolly Hugs one? If my friends and family are going to sponsor me, is it better to have my own page and then I pay the money to the WH page? Or to WCC?

I am so crap at this sort of thing, I need a step by step Mouse proof guide on how to set it all up! Grin

Sorry, I know you're all busy etc Blush xx

I am.just sharing the woolyhugs just giving page. But i emailed the lovely katie at world child cancer and she sent me some paper sponsorship forms as well as not everyone i know is online etc and it means i can ask nicely harass mums on school run and toddler groups etc. I find physically waving a sponsorship form.under their nose helps!

Here you go this is the company i used. They were so helpful, they do all different designs and colours and ars happy to do one off designs. They very helpfully measured their running vests so i knew what size to order due to large boob issues! I got a running vest but they do t-shirts etc as well :)

Mousey. Am on my phone so do bear with me..

If you can we'd love you to share our Just Giving page as we've always seen this as a big community effort, and also WCC are talking about doing a thing with MrsDV about the Billies Blankets and our fundraising.

But the most important thing is that WCC benefit and we'd completely understand if you didn't feel you wanted to mix MN and RL. I can happily talk you through setting up your own JG page so money goes directly to WCC

The other thing is I have iron on transfers that you print at home. All v easy. Had to do something for DD. so if you wanted to just buy a t shirt we could do you a design that way?

You are an absolute star Mousey. Xx

Mouseface · 06/05/2013 13:42

Pistey - I'll share the same page, that's fine :)

And yes please to the iron on things, I have asked expat if I can include Aillidh's name on my t-shirt too. I know what I want it to say,

"I'm Hobbling With A Woolly Hug, In Aid Of World Child Cancer And In Loving Memory Of Billie and Aillidh."

but I'm waiting to hear back from her.

I am more than happy to do paper forms for those who aren't online too, I had thought of that, just not how to do it Mad, can you please post me one and I'll photocopy it? Can I PM you my address?

I'm not bothered about MN and FB linking re my real life identity as I'm the same on both and most people know me as Mouse anyway!! Grin

So, I need to set a date, find out the distance and then set up a page, yes? xx

Report
5madthings · 06/05/2013 13:46

Yep that's fine, my post office has a photocopier so I can get copies if you like? Its double sided so I may have to get the lady in the post office to help me do it properly Blush I have one in use at the moment and the other for when the first one gets filled up :)

I appear to have caught the sun when out for my run and have a rather hot forehead...

Grin bless you and your burnt fod Mad Grin
