The continuing story of how Team Woolly Hugs does running. All newcomers very welcome!

Our first fabulous runner, PiggyPlumPie has been there, done that and quite literally has the tshirt (gorgeous btw) and we are looking forward to more runs taking place round the country, and further afield maybe?

We are doing this to support the Billie's Blanket Project being run by the Woolly Hugs community, see here This project was launched as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday. In Billie's name, and through World Child Cancer we will send little blankets to children who are suffering from cancer, and who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after. Our first batch has already gone to Malawi, the next will go to Ghana and Bangladesh.

We are helping raise funds so that alongside Billie's Blankets, we can send a donation to World Child Cancer. Money is so scarce, they really have so little. There will be other fundraising events this year, but we are RUNNING!

These are where the 5K runs will takeplace, they are all over. But even if you run round the block and someone sponsors you to do so, it all counts!

Our Just Giving Page is here. Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in. At this moment we are up to £1,116.33, where will be be when this thread is full?!

Enter established events soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you are running so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things, the support here is awesome and we love Piggy's idea of tying a woolly bracelet on to run, then we are all with you as you go. Smile

For novices....Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  • Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.

  • Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.

  • Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.

  • Open front door and go outside.

  • Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support.

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

My two, who are old enough to know better, had a fight over who got to wear the crochet medal because they liked it so much Grin.

Osteopath has cleared me to start running again Smile

I have to start C25K from the beginning, but add in an extra rest day in between the runs - which means it will probably take me until October to get back to 5K. But I know I can do it, which is a huge psychological boost.

MegBusset · 29/05/2013 18:54

Oh great news BIWI :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/05/2013 19:02

Such good news BIWI. And yes, you can do it. And you will. X

BigStickBIWI · 30/05/2013 20:50

Nope. Have to wait until cold has gone - no need for extra trauma, apparently. Am planning to go on Monday, assuming I'm feeling better.

BigStickBIWI · 30/05/2013 20:51

When I say 'cold', I mean the cold that I'm suffering from, not the general weather! I'm assuming it will still be cold next week ... Grin

Otherworld · 03/06/2013 08:12

Just checking in. I'm ready and raring to go Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/06/2013 08:49

I just hope it's dry or I am going to be super fed up, never mind him!

Another donation has just arrived, thank you BeerTricksPotter :)

Well done to those who have completed their bit..... whoop whoop Grin

Back in a few days, off to drum up some more support.

If you're keeping a running total on how much you are being sponsored by people, are you including the gift aid amount or not?

Thanks :) x

RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/06/2013 16:11

ONLY 11 DAYS TO GO!!!!!!

Is it wrong that I am so super giddy, even though I know that the pain will be horrific? Grin

I have my lovely orange t-shirt ready to go and my gym kit, plus support belt etc, all laid out.

I'm trying to get more sponsors and am going to the link on FB and Twitter every day, plus badger everyone lots now that it's getting nearer to the time!

I'm going to phone my mother tonight, and ask her, everyone has had an email today and I'm going to ask at preschool tomorrow but I'm not sure that they can give as a 'preschool' but the staff may individually, seeing how uber cute Nemo is and all Grin

How's everyone else getting on? :) x

BIWI · 10/06/2013 17:11

Well I re-finished week 1 yesterday Grin All is well so far with #shinwatch. Had a hot bath when I had finished, and I'm doing lots of stretching, so am cautiously optimistic.

But only running for a minute at a time is very frustrating! Can't go out again until Wednesday, so it's going to be slow progress working back up to the 30 minutes/5K.

Mouseface · 10/06/2013 17:31

Good news re #shinwatch!! Super ouchy by the sounds of it when you get the pain :( x
