Our sympathies and thoughts are with daisydotandgertie, who lost her husband this month.

Woolly Hugs is now in action and this is the support and chat thread at which all are welcome - knitters, crocheters and donors. If you are a first time crafter please do have a go. There is bags of support and plain squares are just as important to our endeavour as fancy ones.

As flowers was one of the requested motifs, I'll just note there's a flowers section in the crafting guide. I might try the posies pattern on this sock pattern. For Welsh (or at least Celtic) patterns, I did this for a previous blanket.

No prob with linking to a pattern page on Rav, Ellen. Or if a free pattern, straight to the author's site.

Here goes then. Smile

Free pattern for crocodile

I've made it and put it on my profile, just a few mistakes!

MinnieBar · 18/05/2013 11:31

Love the crocodile and the fish - awesome. As addicted as I am to crochet, sometimes I miss the versatility of images of knitted squares - but no more!

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 18/05/2013 11:54

Likewise, MinnieBar. I can knit but it takes me ages. I find it tricky with 3 boys to crochet anything that they'd like, as crochet is ideal for pretty, lacy, flowery things. Nothing more boyish than a crocodile, though!

GlaikitFizzog · 18/05/2013 13:36

I need your help ladies! If you were a brand new ball of teal coloured sublime yarn where would you be? You aren't in my stash drawers or overspill cupboard. You aren't down the side of the sofa. You aren't behind the sofa (oh my god, I have just found a whole basket of DSs toys, cars, ball pit balls, in my defence, the sofa is a pain in the arse to move so we don't do it that often). You aren't in my knitting basket or little travel bag. Where are you?? If everyone could just think about my little ball of wool, maybe she'll make an appearance!

In better news, my living room looks like a bomb has hit it. I only came downstairs for black bags as I'm clearing out my wardrobe too. Chaos has descended on my house and it isn't DSs fault for a change!

droitwichmummy · 18/05/2013 13:44

Do you have a cat? Our kitten runs off with balls of wool and hides them

GlaikitFizzog · 18/05/2013 13:48

I have a ds, but he doesn't show much interest in my wool and his toys were purged last weekend! It's really bothering me. It must be somewhere...........

GlaikitFizzog · 18/05/2013 13:54

Shock I've just found it, sitting on its own in the corner of the living room. I swear it wasn't there before! So so spooky! Shock

droitwichmummy · 18/05/2013 13:58

Thank goodness - what are you going to knit with it?

GlaikitFizzog · 18/05/2013 14:14

I thought I'd used it for a square for trinitys blanket, but I'm worrying that its too green. Have PMd pistey for final decision!

BIWI · 18/05/2013 17:13

I had reached almost two inches of my square yesterday and was obviously getting a bit complacent drunk and suddenly realised that I was knitting purl half way through a row that should have been knit.

I tried just pulling that row out, but then couldn't get the yarn back on the needle, so had to pull the whole bloody lot out. Angry

tribpot · 18/05/2013 17:21

BIWI, when you've only got a bit to pull back it's better to tink than just pull the yarn out and then try and retrieve the stitches.

Oh! thank you! I should have posted last night. Never thought you could do that! Blush

tribpot · 18/05/2013 17:58

Drunk tinking I fear may not be a good idea :) But at least you'll know for next time! (And there is a next time for all of us when it comes to buggering a stitch up and not realising).

Drunk tinking = Tunking

GlaikitFizzog · 18/05/2013 18:36

I paint a needle from each pair with nail varnish, just a little bit, so I know if I'm on an odd or even row. There is a tip BIWI for free!!!

KnottyLocks · 18/05/2013 18:41

Ooo good tip, Fizzy!

Bit stuffed if only using one hook mind.

BeerTricks, moss looks great but it can be a bit of a pain if you're starting out. Moving the yarn back and forth takes time and you can lose track of where you are. See how you get on but maybe moss stripes with garter or stocking in between?

Quick question - does Debbie Bliss cashmerino DK Mauve 45 count as a warm purple?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/05/2013 13:06

Yes it does Thanks

BIWI · 19/05/2013 13:20

Oh I know what I should be doing - the side that's on your left needle, if it's the knit side facing you then you should be doing a purl. If it's the purl side facing you then you should be doing a knit.

But I just wasn't watching what I was doing Blush

Macdog · 19/05/2013 14:31

Hi there.
I've just signed up as a woolly hug crafter, as a crocheter.

Just wanted to pop in and say hello Smile

PurpleFrog · 19/05/2013 15:40

Thanks Pistey! This morning I was convincing myself it was more of a bluey-purple than a pinky-purple.

Otherworld · 19/05/2013 19:43

Hello and welcome Macdog Grin
