I'm afraid we bring very sad news. Daisydotandgertie's beloved husband died earlier this month, he had been suffering from cancer. She says her heart is utterly broken. Such devastating news, we are so sorry that life has been so cruel. Our love and thoughts are with her and their family.

We have offered to make Daisy a blanket, she says she was stunned by the offer, and we are delighted to say she has accepted. She sends a million thank yous. Bless her heart. We hope Daisy will feel the love and support surrounding her and that her Woolly Hug will give whatever comfort it can.

There is no separate thread, Daisy has been posting in a very supportive thread for Mumsnetters whose husbands have cancer. Love and strength to them all X

So we are asking for help once again Sad Thanks

We will need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool) I will co ordinate and Knotty (KnottyLocks) will help you with any queries you may have. If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM me with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, I can help you with all of it. Sincere heartfelt thanks. Thanks

The wool we are using

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK, not the baby cash
  • Rowan Cashsoft DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • James C. Brett Pure Merino DK (introducing this time)

Just from these please as they are very similar and we know they can be combined for wash and wear. These are all easily available online, try Deramores, Laughing Hens, JKMWools, AWoollyTail, WiseBadger.

Please choose from the following colours.....
Silvers, blues inc. navy, lighter and brighter greens, please NO khaki, warmer purples, cream. If choosing cream, please go for the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013.
Pinks but only for flower embellishments please, see below.
There is support for buying colours on our website, here.

Suggestions for personalisations and motifs
Flowers - MrD was a horticulturalist, he loved all flowers, particularly spring flowers, sweet peas and roses.
Spots and stripes - Daisy says her DH loved these.
Initials - please PM if you are interested in this, we also have a date to do.
_Welsh symbols/themes He was born in Wales, so it's a place very dear.

Please use 4mm knitting needles or hook. Squares to be six inches, simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If looking for ideas for a pattern, there are many linked to from our website under Crafting

Previous blankets can be seen on our website We also have a Facebook page MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' or 'follow' us you'll be updated on progress via your feed.

When ready for posting, please PM me for info. Postage has gone up dramatically due to a change in the boundaries, so we will be thinking and hopefully be able to be helpful and give advice.

So very sad that another blanket is needed. Sending love to Daisy and their family and thinking of MrD.

As always, we thank you so much for your support.
Pistey and Knotty
Thanks

tribpot · 26/04/2013 19:09

Definitely not too late, flootshoot! Well done.

NoWayNoHow · 26/04/2013 19:55

My lovely wool arrived today - a very pretty lilac colour. Thank you to my donor ThanksThanksThanks

Evening all Smile

Welcome, Floot!

Jacksmania · 26/04/2013 20:19

Got an email saying Deramores are processing my order, what are the chances it arrives before we leave on holiday next Thursday eve? We are off to Disneyland in California (we're near Vancouver in Canada) - honestly I think DH will go like this Hmm if I take my lovely yarn and hook with me :o

I'm going to try my hand at the granny square for Daisy's blanket.

Otherworld · 26/04/2013 20:36

My lovely wool arrived today also. Many thanks to my woolly donor. It is a mix of blue and cream and I'm looking forward to getting started. Grin

Otherworld · 26/04/2013 20:40

And thanks for my chocolate too Grin

KnottyLocks · 26/04/2013 20:41

Jacks, your DH will get used to it. He'll have too!

NappyHappy · 26/04/2013 20:48

Hi Jacks, mine arrived within 2 days of ordering so hopefully you will get it by then! X

Jacksmania · 26/04/2013 21:07

DH likes it when I'm working on a blanket (doing a baby blanket for a friend right now, gorgeous shade of crisp pale green double crochet in the centre, with a white border of three rows of single crochet, and then a soft mid-blue, rows of triple crochet) - and the blanket covers him as he's sitting beside me :)
But he does go a bit Hmm when I carry my work with me everywhere :o

Someone said to me recently "you just don't look like someone who crochets" - wtf? I'm sure we come in all shapes and sizes! Hmm

Jacksmania · 26/04/2013 21:08

Thanks Nappy, are you in the UK or my corner of the world? :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/04/2013 22:04

Jacks he really will get used to it Smile I'm looking forward to taking my new crochet book on holiday in the summer!

Squeaky Blanket Grin

I crocheted most of the way to Japan with my scratchy wooden hook at Christmas, but what my DC found the hardest was that people wanted to chat to me about it Smile

I was wrong. The others are awake so feeding time at the zoo!!

bebejones · 27/04/2013 11:24

Have just picked up a ball of sublime extra fine merino DK for half price!! (Sometimes rumaging around pays off...although wasn't supposed to be looking at all!) Tis a gorgeous blue/mint type colour, sort of Cambridge blue, does that fit with the 'scheme'?

KnottyLocks · 27/04/2013 11:40

It does, Bebe. Result!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/04/2013 18:01
