I'm afraid we bring very sad news. Daisydotandgertie's beloved husband died earlier this month, he had been suffering from cancer. She says her heart is utterly broken. Such devastating news, we are so sorry that life has been so cruel. Our love and thoughts are with her and their family.

We have offered to make Daisy a blanket, she says she was stunned by the offer, and we are delighted to say she has accepted. She sends a million thank yous. Bless her heart. We hope Daisy will feel the love and support surrounding her and that her Woolly Hug will give whatever comfort it can.

There is no separate thread, Daisy has been posting in a very supportive thread for Mumsnetters whose husbands have cancer. Love and strength to them all X

So we are asking for help once again Sad Thanks

We will need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool) I will co ordinate and Knotty (KnottyLocks) will help you with any queries you may have. If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM me with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, I can help you with all of it. Sincere heartfelt thanks. Thanks

The wool we are using

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK, not the baby cash
  • Rowan Cashsoft DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • James C. Brett Pure Merino DK (introducing this time)

Just from these please as they are very similar and we know they can be combined for wash and wear. These are all easily available online, try Deramores, Laughing Hens, JKMWools, AWoollyTail, WiseBadger.

Please choose from the following colours.....
Silvers, blues inc. navy, lighter and brighter greens, please NO khaki, warmer purples, cream. If choosing cream, please go for the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013.
Pinks but only for flower embellishments please, see below.
There is support for buying colours on our website, here.

Suggestions for personalisations and motifs
Flowers - MrD was a horticulturalist, he loved all flowers, particularly spring flowers, sweet peas and roses.
Spots and stripes - Daisy says her DH loved these.
Initials - please PM if you are interested in this, we also have a date to do.
_Welsh symbols/themes He was born in Wales, so it's a place very dear.

Please use 4mm knitting needles or hook. Squares to be six inches, simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If looking for ideas for a pattern, there are many linked to from our website under Crafting

Previous blankets can be seen on our website We also have a Facebook page MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' or 'follow' us you'll be updated on progress via your feed.

When ready for posting, please PM me for info. Postage has gone up dramatically due to a change in the boundaries, so we will be thinking and hopefully be able to be helpful and give advice.

So very sad that another blanket is needed. Sending love to Daisy and their family and thinking of MrD.

As always, we thank you so much for your support.
Pistey and Knotty
Thanks

Would you like a dragon square... if he is genuinely Welsh he should be in red... Let me know, just finished a couple and am now on a roll!

LatteLady · 27/04/2013 18:46

Just checked, bottom half green, top half white, dragon in red... will this put the colour scheme out?

LatteLady · 27/04/2013 18:47

By white, I mean the cream wool... and I just found my choc... num, num!

MrsShrek3 · 27/04/2013 18:49

just don't put it next to the purple Wink

LatteLady · 27/04/2013 19:27

I have finished a polka dot square with bobbles... great way to use up the scraps :)

tribpot · 27/04/2013 20:31

Latte - Knotty has Views on the red that is allowed, have a look on the support thread for more.

KnottyLocks · 27/04/2013 20:35

Yep, I have Smile

Only because there are so many variations , some of which pop too much or are really hard to work in with the other colours. I know coz I've had to try!

We'll drop you a note, Latte.

tribpot · 27/04/2013 20:40

Jacks - the Deramores group on Ravelry has some useful info on how long orders generally take to get to North America - about ten days?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/04/2013 21:00

There's a support thread? Confused

For addicted crocheters :o or for Daisy Blush

Jacksmania · 28/04/2013 05:24

Sorry, it's late and I've had wine, the two don't always make for appropriate humour Blush.

Seriously, though, support thread for what/whom?

tribpot · 28/04/2013 06:56

Support thread for Jacks although today you may need a support thread for feeling delicate rather than doing a bit of yarn craft Wink

daisydotandgertie · 28/04/2013 07:48

Oh my!

I've been lurking on this thread for longer than I should have been because I just didn't know what to say. So many lovelies all giving up time, effort and thought for me is a bit overwhelming and very special.

I've seen woolly hug blanket threads here before and have even thought of contributing but ruled myself out on account of v poor knitting skills Grin. I certainly never dreamt I'd be the beneficiary of one - nor that I'd ever need to be! We knew MrD had terminal cancer but he has passed very unexpectedly. He was diagnosed in August last year, and although the chemotherapy had been successful in battering the cancer, he was overcome very, very quickly by a number of other things. There is an inquest into his death. This blanket will be much cherished, and its comfort much needed as I fear there are some very traumatic times ahead of me.

Thank you all Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks
