Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  1. Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.
  2. Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.
  3. Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.
  4. Open front door and go outside Shock
  5. Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!!

If you haven't seen Phase 2 of our Little Hugs, the thread is HERE. We launched this phase as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday and we call the project Billie's Blankets in her memory. In her name, and through World Child Cancer, we will send little blankets to children, starting with Malawi and Bangladesh, who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after.

Alongside Billie's Blankets, we are very keen to send a donation to World Child Cancer, as money is scarce, they really have so little. One of the ways we will do this is by running! In May a Woolly Hugs' team will be running the BUPA London 10k, and we are now looking for runners to enter 5K runs throughout the country.

These are where the 5K runs will take place?.. They are all over!

There are already runners committed to running (BIWI, TantrumsandBalloons,me) in London at Crystal Palace on October 13th, and lovely Fizzy and PrettyBird are running in the Glasgow event on July 27th. We would love folk to join with us, or run at a different venue! There is no minimum age and children can be entered, my daughter is running with me, I say with, she will shoot off like a gazelle and I will lumber along. Happily the website says they love fancy dress

Because World Child Cancer isn't a nominated charity we/they ask that you let them know independently. To take pressure off individuals, and to make this a real woolly community effort we recommend that you use our Woolly Hugs Just Giving page for fundraising. Anything you raise will be marvellous, really, and we will all be able to see how much we can raise together.

Our Just Giving Page is HERE Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in.

So please have a think, if you are interested, we would recommend entering soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you have entered so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things Couch to 5K apps and playlists for running spring to mind.

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support Thanks

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Knotty and Pistey

Thanks

I did do running this very morning. According to my sat nav app it's 2.28 miles back from DD2's nursery school. She's going to take her bike in the morning so I'll be able to run half that leg, once we're on the Common. I did look a bit dead at the end though, it must be said.

5madthings · 04/02/2013 17:40

Well done frank I was trying to use a gpsthingy on my phone but it eats the battery! I am going to be using my phone to listen to music with my couch to 10k app so have decided to buy myself a pedometer and have been sadly researching them online. I do have one somewhere but can't find it and it was very basic. I have chosen an omron one that I shall need to input ,my stride length and various other details.. It gets very good reviews and am going to nip into town tomorrow to get it.

Oih sports bras, mine is OK and I wear a sports crop top thing thast us really tight over it but am thinking I shall get a new bra, I ask large in the norks department but fairly narrow under bust, what makes are best? I need to go get a tape measure and work out my size properly as it has changed so much with 5 pregnancies and over nine years of bfeeding...

GlaikitFizzog · 04/02/2013 18:20

Erm, its currently a white out outside with howling winds! I'm not making excuses, but I am not going out in it. 2 inches of snow has fallen this afternoon. I'm in an orange warning area too .........

MegBusset · 04/02/2013 19:03

Good luck this evening 5mad! I have total PRSP :)

5madthings · 04/02/2013 19:27

Prsp? Just about to put dd to bed and should be heading out at 8pm wish have my stuff all ready...

EasilyBored · 04/02/2013 19:32

I did it! Not a very long run, but I managed to run nearly the whole way. Am now knackered and going to have a shower and a glass of wine. DH says that's not really 'the spirit of it'.

Am very pleased with self for actually going out in the wind and drizzle and dark.

Good luck sis!

DancesWithWoolEnPointe · 04/02/2013 19:33

A white out Glaikit? You'll make Pistey Envy

I rode my bike on the school run, towing DD3 in a trailer. This counts as training - no?

MegBusset · 04/02/2013 19:44

Post Running Smugness Phase (see previous posts!). Goes well with a Wine, I find.

5madthings · 04/02/2013 20:49

I did it, and I actually carried on going at the end of week one run one of the 10k app ask could and feel like u could do it for a bit longer actually. Imam bizarrely granny, I actually enjoyed it!!

However I think I don't look like a natural runner, tho I did see another runner who gave me a nod.

Ds1,was fine at home with the little four who all stayed asleep. Am looking forward to wed night...

EasilyBored · 04/02/2013 20:53

Where did you download the ap from?

5madthings · 04/02/2013 20:57

From play. Its a free app by zenlabs. Just search couch210k and you will get s fee the zenlabs one should be fine if the first ones. Its a 24wk program and gets good reviews.

5madthings · 04/02/2013 20:58

14 wk not 24 wk.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/02/2013 20:58

OK, I've just been using the 'my training' bit on the bupa page, you can plan out your routes on a map and it tells you the distance, you programme them in and then just fill in the timetable of suggested work outs.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 05/02/2013 06:00

Right well I did it Grin

I actually did all 8 one minute runs. I am actually thrilled with myself.

I feel all happy Grin

We are going swimming tonight apparently. Joyful.
But I have started. And I didn't collapse so it's all good so far.

Ds1 has just gone out for his morning run. As he was leaving he said "give it a few months mum and you'll be able to come with me in the morning for a run"

Yeah. Never gonna happen.

But I survived my first night of training so I'm sure it can only get better

BIWI · 05/02/2013 11:00

Week 1, day 2, ripped and sorted.
Grin

prettybird · 05/02/2013 11:31

Congratulations BIWI :)

While I might not be venturing out into the arctic wasteland going out for a run, I have done my 2nd day of the 30 Day Shred :) I finished Ripped in 30 last week, so am now going to go back through the DVDs. At least this time round I am not doing the "on the knee" press-ups even if I don't necessarily always bend my elbows that much Grin

TantrumsAndBalloons · 05/02/2013 11:48

Well done BIWI
