Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  1. Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.
  2. Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.
  3. Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.
  4. Open front door and go outside Shock
  5. Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!!

If you haven't seen Phase 2 of our Little Hugs, the thread is HERE. We launched this phase as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday and we call the project Billie's Blankets in her memory. In her name, and through World Child Cancer, we will send little blankets to children, starting with Malawi and Bangladesh, who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after.

Alongside Billie's Blankets, we are very keen to send a donation to World Child Cancer, as money is scarce, they really have so little. One of the ways we will do this is by running! In May a Woolly Hugs' team will be running the BUPA London 10k, and we are now looking for runners to enter 5K runs throughout the country.

These are where the 5K runs will take place?.. They are all over!

There are already runners committed to running (BIWI, TantrumsandBalloons,me) in London at Crystal Palace on October 13th, and lovely Fizzy and PrettyBird are running in the Glasgow event on July 27th. We would love folk to join with us, or run at a different venue! There is no minimum age and children can be entered, my daughter is running with me, I say with, she will shoot off like a gazelle and I will lumber along. Happily the website says they love fancy dress

Because World Child Cancer isn't a nominated charity we/they ask that you let them know independently. To take pressure off individuals, and to make this a real woolly community effort we recommend that you use our Woolly Hugs Just Giving page for fundraising. Anything you raise will be marvellous, really, and we will all be able to see how much we can raise together.

Our Just Giving Page is HERE Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in.

So please have a think, if you are interested, we would recommend entering soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you have entered so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things Couch to 5K apps and playlists for running spring to mind.

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support Thanks

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Knotty and Pistey

Thanks

I'm spamming the wooly threads with this crochet pattern

This has to be included in a woolly hug somewhere!

I appreciate this is the running thread! But everyone loves a jammie dodger!

BIWI · 05/02/2013 13:41

Its bloody snowing here now :( I ran last night do tonight will do a Davina DVD its a half hour kick boxing routine and then I will run when dd gets home from work tomorrow, in fact given ds2's behaviour I will literally walk out the door the minute dp gets in...save me from throttling him.

5madthings · 05/02/2013 16:59

Which 10k is that? :) you will read a rest now mrsdevere

MrsD do you need a laminated training plan?

Or a 14 year old personal trainer? Because you are more than welcome to mine. I would pay you actual money to take him away.

I've literally just got in the door and he is saying to me, come on mum we are going swimming.
What, now ds1? Right this minute? Before I even have a cup of tea?

Apparently yes. Right now. But it's ok because we are only doing 30 lengths. Yep. 30 lengths.

What is wrong with my child? Is he even my child?

Isn't he supposed to be hanging around on street corners, not going for a run at 6am and then highly enthusiastic about swimming 30 lengths?

I will be lucky to manage 3. The last time I went swimming was in the baby pool with ds2 about 5 years ago.

I am beginning to suspect ds1 hates me and this is his clever revenge.

I have to go. I am being shouted at. I am putting coffee in a takeaway cup to drink on the way. Oh and next month we will run to the pool before swimming.

He does hate me, doesn't he?

5madthings · 05/02/2013 17:37

The London one? I thought it was full? Or maybe it depends what type of runner is charity or not?

I feel slightly achey after my run yesterday I see that as good. I thought running would be cheap but in town today I got two new pairs of running trousers (bargain in sale at sports direct) and a jacket as I have been wearing dp's and its too big, oh and pedometer. What is it with new hobbies and my ability to spend money on them...

CamperWidow · 05/02/2013 17:39

Tantrums can you post you plan? Would be lovely to laugh at see what those in the know are doing! Grin

5madthings · 05/02/2013 17:39

tantrums he sounds fabulous!!!

Swimming is my thing, I can quite easily go for an hour and do 80 lengths. I may go when dp has a day off on Thursday actually.

I do like the knitted jammy dodgers, you could wear them like a medal Grin

5madthings · 05/02/2013 17:40

Yes post your plan, I am following a couch to 10k app I downloaded and doing exercise DVD's.

BIWI · 05/02/2013 17:41

Fabulous, Tantrums Grin

5madthings - another one here shelling out cash! New trainers, long running pants, t-shirt and water-proof top. Oh, and socks and gloves.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/02/2013 17:43

And the hat! Don't forget the hat Smile

TantrumsAndBalloons · 05/02/2013 17:44

5mad you can have him. I will send him up to you immediatley. Grin

I will post the plan if I have the energy tonight if not i will post tomorrow.

I am warning you though-it is LONG

RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/02/2013 17:48

5madthings - we were originally allocated 6 places by World Child Cancer, but that has been reduced to 5 as they had forgotten they had committed to someone already. MrsDV has one of those, and she has just filled in the form for them. It's the same as yours, it's just a way for the charities to get runners into these events iyswim. I'm now going to be the reserve, so if anyone drops out for any reason I will have to try to get the number from you.

But I am definitely signed up and paid for for the 5K in October. Huzzah!

Oh I got socks and a long sleeved top as well, but all of it came to £55? In sports direct, not including the pedometer which I got in a running shop. But some of it was bday money and dp didn't buy me anything!! For my bday, so I figured I was owed a treat i also spent dp's fat face voucher on a new top for myself Grin

5madthings · 05/02/2013 17:52

Ah right I get it now. I think I got lucky when I signed up but I just signed up as a general runner and am directing people to the just giving page. meg has emailed world child cancer and they will send us running vests and some sponsor forms as well :)

GlaikitFizzog · 05/02/2013 17:53

Tantrums ds should be our mr motivator! Does he have any green Lycra? He can shout at us via a you tube vlog

Dh is out tonight for football so I'm hoping to get out tomorrow. I'm just trying to figure out how to transfer the c25k app from my iPad to iPod touch. Any geniuses out there? Tantrums?? Is your ds also technologically minded as well as treating his body as a temple?

My sponsor form arrived today. Will be brandishing it wherever I go, as well as haranguing friends and family with the Justgiving page :)

5madthings · 05/02/2013 18:04

I was just inspired but txt meg to see if she would do it, but I obviously filled up shortly afterwards. The 5k ones are good, I think lots more will be tempted to aim for that. My sister has now signed up for the 10k in Manchester, her run is the day before mine so I will have her time to beat... she is 5 years younger than me so I can officially add a few mins to her time to make it fair I think Grin

Oooh nice one MrsDV. And I will of course be there at the end with the pink sparkly noisy child. She has taken rather a shine to you and your small boys, so I think we have the wedding sorted.
