I have to admit that it has taken me while to write this. Sometimes it feels that despite all the words at our fingertips, there are never the right ones.

This morning we learnt of the heartbreaking news that Cupofteaplease's beautiful daughter, Beatrice, had been taken from us: another bright star to light the skies above us.

If you have followed Cup's threads, you could not have failed to be touched by Bea's magic and be inspired by her mother and her family (affectionately known as The Teaset ) who ensured that for Bea, 'A life filled with love is a life worth living.'
Their dedication to Bea, their bravery and love reached many hearts and touched many lives. Bea will live long in our hearts and memories.

Our thoughts and love are with them all and we hope that this blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them.

We would be very grateful for your help. Here's how:

We need knitters, crocheters and donors.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
Whatever way youd like to be involved, please PM Pistey: it really helps us to know how many people are involved. Thanks

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • Rowan Cashsoft DK.

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Pinks, blues, greens, warm purples, silvers and cream (we'd be grateful if you use Debbie Bliss 013, if opting for cream)

If you wish to make flowers and bees and would like to use yellow, please PM Pistey as we have some in our stash and we would like to use the same colour throughout. Thanks

Ideas for squares:

Motifs:
Bees, primroses, violets, daisies and any other flowers.

Please don't feel daunted by any of the ideas as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen here on the Woolly Hugs website . We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' our Facebook page, you'll be updated on progress via your News Feed.

As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

I've finally got my teacup to work... now I just need to get a square round it and a cheeky bee peeping over the top... I may have over complicated things :o

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/11/2012 16:45

Oh Soupy, it sounds smashing!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/11/2012 16:45

Yes, well, we'll see. At the moment it's just a flat teacup!

SoupDragon · 04/11/2012 17:07

Oh, the pressure is all mine. Why do I do this to myself? the Bee Square was bad enough and now this... All my own doing.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/11/2012 17:30

Two fabulous donors to thank tonight, either your woolly wool has arrived with your donor, or your donation has arrived safely with us, either way we are very grateful to you Thanks

3D Teasets [faints]!

Have put my efforts so far on my profile. Next attempt at iCord butterflies.

I love the idea of a meadow for Bea and Cup and the bigger girls and Mr Cup and so many donors as well as all the crafters. What a community this nest of vipers turns out to be Grin

Wee cross-over from the 'Is there such a think as a nice tattoo' thread...

3D teasets? Bees peeking over cups? 3D crocheted flowers?

I may be on the wrong thread afterall...

PacificDogwood · 04/11/2012 21:00

..such a thing..

Sorry again.
No amount of proofreading and previewing stops me from seeing my typos the very second I press post. Gah!

tribpot · 04/11/2012 21:02

10% off everything as well with Deramores - TREATWK

GlaikitFizzog · 04/11/2012 21:12

PacificDogwood · 04/11/2012 21:24
Grin

I liked the 'KnitWit'

PacificDogwood · 04/11/2012 21:28

Can I also say what a pleasure it is to be knitting with halfdecent wool? DB cashmerino is the best quality wool I have used in years (well, it's been years since I knitten anything beyond the occasional potholder) and it is a joy.

Poor cup is so sad. I cannot bear it Sad and am pathetically glad to have the knitting of squares as a tiny attempt at offering comfort, because that will comfort me. Needy, moi?? Hmm

KnottyLocks · 04/11/2012 21:34

I think many of us feel a tiny bit less helpless by doing this. Obviously we would like to take away The Teasets pain, but we can't . What we can do is offer comfort.
Talking to Cup, she truly appreciates the Woolly Hug already: the thoughts and efforts of everyone really does have a comforting effect.

Two hundred or so people sending sympathy cards would just end up as so much recycling. Two hundred or so people sending wool around the world to make into squares and then a full sized blanket to wrap up a family is an amazing achievement and I'm honoured go play a small part.

Woolly hug indeed Thanks
