I have to admit that it has taken me while to write this. Sometimes it feels that despite all the words at our fingertips, there are never the right ones.

This morning we learnt of the heartbreaking news that Cupofteaplease's beautiful daughter, Beatrice, had been taken from us: another bright star to light the skies above us.

If you have followed Cup's threads, you could not have failed to be touched by Bea's magic and be inspired by her mother and her family (affectionately known as The Teaset ) who ensured that for Bea, 'A life filled with love is a life worth living.'
Their dedication to Bea, their bravery and love reached many hearts and touched many lives. Bea will live long in our hearts and memories.

Our thoughts and love are with them all and we hope that this blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them.

We would be very grateful for your help. Here's how:

We need knitters, crocheters and donors.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
Whatever way youd like to be involved, please PM Pistey: it really helps us to know how many people are involved. Thanks

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • Rowan Cashsoft DK.

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Pinks, blues, greens, warm purples, silvers and cream (we'd be grateful if you use Debbie Bliss 013, if opting for cream)

If you wish to make flowers and bees and would like to use yellow, please PM Pistey as we have some in our stash and we would like to use the same colour throughout. Thanks

Ideas for squares:

Motifs:
Bees, primroses, violets, daisies and any other flowers.

Please don't feel daunted by any of the ideas as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen here on the Woolly Hugs website . We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' our Facebook page, you'll be updated on progress via your News Feed.

As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

Morning Pidj Brew

All PMs replied to, thanks to everyone Thanks

Morning Pistey
I have done two squares, how many do people usually do? Happy to knit more plain squares. I've done one I basket weave and one in moss stitch.

soremummy · 04/11/2012 08:12

Pistey have posted a link for Harris tweed pattern on the other thread

PurplePidjin · 04/11/2012 08:13

As many as you feel able and have wool for, Sally. We try to get at least one by each person onto the specific blanket, if there are loads by the same person we can use them on the mini hugs or charity blankets we've done - no wastage! Thanks

SallyBear · 04/11/2012 08:25

Thanks Pidj. Do you need some of the wool the squares were knitted in to help with the making up?

PurplePidjin · 04/11/2012 08:54

It takes 4 full balls to construct a blanket, but you can send leftovers with your squares to be sent to the next person - and request different colours for yourself, if you want to be involved in the next blanket :)

PacificDogwood · 04/11/2012 08:54

Good morning, all Smile.

Yy that is the cryptic message I received when I tried to PM yesterday, may have posted twice, but Pistey has replied, so thanks!
I sent a reply to you.

SoupDragon · 04/11/2012 09:06

I am hoping to get a mini hug and two lots of blanket squares in the post tomorrow. The hug and Dexter's squares are done, I just need to do a couple more for Bea's blanket.

I am currently doing one with balloons on - we'll see how that ends up. I wanted to do one with a teacup on but that hasn't worked out yet.

PurpleFrog · 04/11/2012 11:14

I have done a 3D crochet flower square. I was also thinking about doing a teacup one, but wasn't sure if that would be appropriate....

SallyBear · 04/11/2012 11:23

Cup loves tea. Honestly. She really does. Smile

KnottyLocks · 04/11/2012 11:40

She really really does Smile

Teacups nestled amidst a meadow of flowers. Perfect.

PurpleFrog · 04/11/2012 12:19

OK - you've persuaded me - I'll do the teacup after all. I'll print out the pattern I saved last week. But, the shade of purple I have may be too dark for the motif to stand out properly. If that is the case after a few inches I will frog it and do a plainer square.

EllenJaneisstillnotmyname · 04/11/2012 12:40

I've finished my squares and will put a picture on my profile later. Smile The pink ball was running out so my last square used up a lot of the yellow, hope that's OK. 4 squares in total. I'll PM Pistey for an address.

droitwichmummy · 04/11/2012 15:03

I'm glad there will be some teacups. I was thinking about doing a teaset square but then started knitting an elephant for Yorkhill Confused

fraktion · 04/11/2012 15:27

Do you have preferences re: casting on and selvedges?

MOSagain · 04/11/2012 15:44
droitwichmummy · 04/11/2012 15:46

MOS we need those lovely plain squares to set off the other ones! If you want to try something else just have a go! Get onto Ravelry and search for discloths for something manageble - most of them are just knit and purl.

tribpot · 04/11/2012 15:48

Have you tried Chinese Waves, MOSagain?

ThatVikRinA22 · 04/11/2012 15:57

hi folks, i have only just seen this - how do you donate and is there a minimum amount?

cheers.

fanjodisfunction · 04/11/2012 16:06

Ive finished my squares just waiting for my black wool to arrive so I can make my bee. So hope its here tomorrow. Sorry if Its already been asked but whats the deadline for this blanket?

KnottyLocks · 04/11/2012 16:15

Vicar, we'll be coming to get you in just a minute Smile

Fan, we haven't set a deadline yet because of problems with wool supplies. Once we know the majority of wool has arrived, we'll set a date. It will allow for woolly delays.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/11/2012 16:36

Vicar, am just about to PM you right now, and no my lovely, no minimum amount, anything helps Thanks
