I have to admit that it has taken me while to write this. Sometimes it feels that despite all the words at our fingertips, there are never the right ones.

This morning we learnt of the heartbreaking news that Cupofteaplease's beautiful daughter, Beatrice, had been taken from us: another bright star to light the skies above us.

If you have followed Cup's threads, you could not have failed to be touched by Bea's magic and be inspired by her mother and her family (affectionately known as The Teaset ) who ensured that for Bea, 'A life filled with love is a life worth living.'
Their dedication to Bea, their bravery and love reached many hearts and touched many lives. Bea will live long in our hearts and memories.

Our thoughts and love are with them all and we hope that this blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them.

We would be very grateful for your help. Here's how:

We need knitters, crocheters and donors.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
Whatever way youd like to be involved, please PM Pistey: it really helps us to know how many people are involved. Thanks

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • Rowan Cashsoft DK.

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Pinks, blues, greens, warm purples, silvers and cream (we'd be grateful if you use Debbie Bliss 013, if opting for cream)

If you wish to make flowers and bees and would like to use yellow, please PM Pistey as we have some in our stash and we would like to use the same colour throughout. Thanks

Ideas for squares:

Motifs:
Bees, primroses, violets, daisies and any other flowers.

Please don't feel daunted by any of the ideas as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen here on the Woolly Hugs website . We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' our Facebook page, you'll be updated on progress via your News Feed.

As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

Hi, SDTG

Trazzletoes · 27/10/2012 19:31

Hi, I'd love to contribute. I'm just starting on the journey of crochet [hgrin] but hoping to do my first granny square tonight... If it works I'll order some of the right wool. If it doesn't, I'll, er, Blush donate.

Come along for a Brew if you have technical questions, Trazzle - that goes for all the crocheters

Thanks
Trazzletoes · 27/10/2012 19:39

Thanks pidj.

My wool arrived this morning (Get Knitted have some of the Cashmerino on sale) and I managed to cast on and start a square, this evening. Only managed an inch, though, because DS2 was sat on my knee muttering "wool" and "knitting" - which for DS2 is pretty amazing :)

Just a question for regular woolly huggers - sew in ends or leave long to use for sewing up?

KnottyLocks · 27/10/2012 20:20

Sew in pesky ends, please Smile

RiaOverTheRainbow · 27/10/2012 20:53

I've crocheted some pink flowers, I can send them loose so they can go on different coloured squares, or knit a plain square to put them on myself if you prefer everything sent 'finished'.

ouryve · 27/10/2012 20:54

Cheers, even [hblush]

KnottyLocks · 27/10/2012 20:56

Ria, up to you. I'm more than happy to add them this end. In my head at the moment, I have a lovely image of a blanket scattered with flowers.

I haven't started yet. DS is refusing to sleep "because his body doesnt think it's tired" Angry

Somersaults · 27/10/2012 21:20

I've finished my first square for little Bea. It's the butterfly garden pattern I linked to somewhere in a soft delicate pink and I love it. I think it's perfect for Bea.

Lovely ball of mauve arrived yesterday, bought from love knitting because I fell in love with the Heart Ended knitting needles. Perfect for knitting squares with love.

I have finished my plain square and need some ideas for the fancy one, so off to search.

waitandseepudding · 28/10/2012 10:29

After seeing this thread last night, I read cupofteaplease's beautiful tribute to her daughter and have shed more than a few tears.
What an inspiring, incredible mum, my heart goes out to her and the rest of the teaset and I'd be proud to be involved.
I've pm'd pistey.
Thanks

Just wondering if my wool has turned up at its destination?

Tweetinat · 28/10/2012 11:31

Knotty - trying to decide what to do and don't know if its easier for you to have a couple of squares the same or different? I can probably squeeze three squares out of my wool and want to do what's best for you!

HocusPocusPigInACaldron · 28/10/2012 12:02

Wool ordered today, hopefully be with my knitter Tuesday or Wednesday.

It's a lovely deep pink and i know it will be made into something lovely.
