Oh no! The previous thread has become full and suddenly we need a new one, with no way of linking old to new. I hope people will find this one. :)

This is a continuation of our thread supporting MNers creating blanket squares for Woolly Hugs. All are welcome.

Ophelia, you're on - I've put you above the line where 'here be dragons' as otherwise it's only DAISY and me representing the North of England, with Formerly technically on the right latitude but in another country Grin If you live just south of the line, I'm moving the line down!

I'm surprised to hear Chester is short on wool shops, I would have thought it'd have a few naice places.

I'm off today to my 'knitting with colour' workshop so I am insanely excited to learn how I've been doing it wrong all this time.

Hello all Smile

Veronica - I'll PM you Thanks

tribpot · 18/06/2012 15:42

Oh I see Glaikit. It's more like two colours side-by-side (although technically that is all intarsia is I guess!). They just want you to make sure the yarns cross before you pick up the new one, otherwise you've got two completely separate squares that just happen to have been knit on the same needles. The rule is 'old over new', i.e. you place the old yarn over the new one, then pick up the new one and voila - the new yarn goes around the old yarn before it does its first stitch.

Grin at Minnie positively goading Trib into action Wink

Also, has nobody picked up Prettybird on her gratuitous stealth boasting re the Le Creuset above???

Veronica, welcome to the fold. I jest above, everyone on this thread is lovely and welcoming. You're in good hands. Find Trib's link to her word document. Everything you need is included therein. I'd link to it but I have to get back to pretending to work. Smile

prettybird · 18/06/2012 16:04

The Le Creuset was a cast-off from MIL who found it too heavy to use. But I've also done it in an ordinary enamel saucepan - but not since I refined the timings, so they might be slightly different without the residual heat of the cast-iron.

BarbaraWoodlouse · 18/06/2012 16:08

You do know I was joking don't you prettybird Smile

I'd love Le Creuset but I have dodgy wrists so I think in reality I'd struggle with the weight. Which is lucky as I have most other things MN raves about due to impulse online purchasing. Wink

Always makes me think about the policeman in Outnumbered when the neighouring wife hits her philandering husband with a frying pan. "Never used to be a problem but these days everyone's got Le Creuset so it's getting more serious..." Or words to that effect...

Glaikit · 18/06/2012 16:23

I used my soup pot form ikea. And my pampered chef wooden spoon!

Thanks Trib, I'll have a wee practice be Fore doing the block. No doubt I'll be back with questions.

prettybird · 18/06/2012 16:53

How did it turn out Glaikit?

Glaikit · 18/06/2012 16:55

It is lush! A bit on the pale side, but it's set beautifully. I've eaten far too much today.

prettybird · 18/06/2012 17:51

Apparently a satsuma will cleanse your palate to allow you to eat more Wink

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/06/2012 21:06

Lots of lovely donors thanked on the threads tonight as well as a crafter Smile

MinnieBar · 18/06/2012 21:27

I have just done a practice row of bobbles! Grin

bobkate · 18/06/2012 22:07

Both my squares are finished and ready to go in the post tomorrow. Will someone PM me the address they should be posted to? Have thoroughly enjoyed every minute Smile. Thanks for everyone's help and encouragement as well Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/06/2012 22:10

Evening Smile

Sorry not been around much, have been beavering away to get the Wubbly and Kwazii blankets done before the next lot hit!

There may have been some Wine involved.

RedRosie · 19/06/2012 05:43

Morning all ... V early. A meeting in Manchester.

Will the sun shine in The North?

Will There Be Dragons?

You do an amazing job Knotty. Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/06/2012 06:26

She really does Rosie.

Even for an early bird, you are up early. Passes espresso Brew

RedRosie · 19/06/2012 06:40

Pitsey! It feels like ages since I wrote you a poem ...

You all do an amazing job. Getting up early for long meetings in windowless rooms in the North is nothing in comparison.

I hope There Be Dragons ... I think I'm going above Trib's v scientific dragon demarcation zone ...

tribpot · 19/06/2012 07:08

Yes, you'll be above the line, Rosie. The sun was shining yesterday in Leeds and I believe may shine again today. The Olympic Torch is visiting Hull and Harrogate, but I think not Manchester til later in the week.

I've added pictures of the front and back of my brioche stitch square to my Flickr photostream

Doesn't look too bad from the front :) especially as I have "darned" over the couple of "wrong" colour stitches but on the other side you can see the plethora of mistakes, including the row when I got the colours/stitches the wrong way round.

nickelbarapasaurus · 19/06/2012 13:38

that is soo weird that it looks perfect from the front! Confused

Glaikit · 19/06/2012 18:55

Hello! Just in from work and I've not stopped all day! Financial year ends suck!!

Hope to get some knitting done later, but need to feed myself first!

Is it likely I'll get some sublime in hobby craft?

tribpot · 19/06/2012 19:07

In a word, Glaikit: no. Confused I do wish at least one of these yarns was stocked in Hobbycraft just because it's often the first place many people think of.

bird - good work!
