Oh no! The previous thread has become full and suddenly we need a new one, with no way of linking old to new. I hope people will find this one. :)

This is a continuation of our thread supporting MNers creating blanket squares for Woolly Hugs. All are welcome.

Ophelia, you're on - I've put you above the line where 'here be dragons' as otherwise it's only DAISY and me representing the North of England, with Formerly technically on the right latitude but in another country Grin If you live just south of the line, I'm moving the line down!

I'm surprised to hear Chester is short on wool shops, I would have thought it'd have a few naice places.

I'm off today to my 'knitting with colour' workshop so I am insanely excited to learn how I've been doing it wrong all this time.

Wow Trib you knit so fast - every day you've created something new! On the one hand it's inspiring, and on the other it makes me realise that although I'm improving (and I try to attempt a new technique for each blanket) I've still got soooo far to go!!

Not sure I'll get round to it this time, but next on my list is bobbles?

tribpot · 17/06/2012 07:48

Well Minnie in fairness I was knitting officially from 10 until 4 yesterday :) Let's face it, we don't get that amount of time normally.

I've got a couple of bigger blanket projects to do although I also really want to get on to make a cardigan for myself. Fortunately Carina Spencer has come to the rescue and created this little number. I-cord cast on here we come, that looks like a week's job on its own!

morning all, I reckon I'm 3/4 way through my square which I started yesterday and hopefully will finish today. Progress indeed, the first one took a week Grin

THOM lovely to see you here. Did you get to do a square for MrsY's blanket? that would have been nice. You could have sewn something nice on one of my very plain wobbly square?

BarbaraWoodlouse · 17/06/2012 09:31

Trib that cardigan is gorgeous. But , that would take me years. Reckon global warming would have rendered cardigans obsolete before I could finish that Envy

Making progress on the tree using the chart (get me Grin) but in fairness I'm still on the trunky bit which is relatively Valium free.

Hope all are well.

PurplePidjin · 17/06/2012 09:41

As an aside, what's a good yarn for baby cardigans? Is cheapie acrylic better, due to washing and amount needed, or should i invest in something posh? I have loads of manmade in the stash which needs using...

droitwichmummy · 17/06/2012 10:16

Snowdrops finished - pic on profile. Star in progress (6 of 7 wedges done so far)

droitwichmummy · 17/06/2012 11:56

Whoops this star is going to be a bit big! It looks like 8in across (haven't assembled it yet) Will it be ok once attached to a plain square - it will overlap - or shall I have a rethink?

Glaikit · 17/06/2012 12:00

Morning, just! I have rethunk my friends blanket so I'm now doing this instead.

tribpot · 17/06/2012 13:09

Back from the atrocious Top Cat movie - but guess what, you can do moss/seed stitch in the dark. Result!

Barbara - best take a precautionary valium, although you're doing a grand job so far. You can do this!

Pidj - I personally think man-made is best for baby stuff, at least for cardigans and blankets and whatnot, not sure about stuff that goes against the skin. I love Cotton Twist (cotton and acrylic mix) and of course my good old faves the Crofters - Baby, Regular and Chunky. I think for early years baby stuff, they grow so quickly it's not worth shelling out tons for posh yarns, and then as they get a bit older the yarns need to be hard-wearing. I'd stick with the stash you have, although I'm insisting on doing another Baby Surprise Jacket in Knitcol for a forthcoming baby at work!

Glaikit, love the log cabin patterns.

droitwich - great snowdrops! I have the same pattern (I think) on the needles in green.

Fairisle snowdrops - not a great photo, although what's more annoying is I finally cracked the tension for fairisle on the second row of the flowers.

If I can manage to resize this may you find peace in your heart what do you think of it?

tribpot · 17/06/2012 17:07

That's lovely, soremummy. Looking at the chart it should be too hard to resize - how many stitches are you needing to make 6"? As it's 40 stitches, 8 of which are border, you could reduce that to 1 on each side just to give something for the blanket-makers to grab hold of - so 34 stitches.

TwoJackRussellsandababy · 17/06/2012 17:08

Marking my place, can you add me to the knitters map too? I might be the most northerly so far, just next to Perth.

tribpot · 17/06/2012 17:10

Will do, TwoJackRussells - I must go back and look who else needs adding, soremummy is another Leedser for one!

OP posts:
soremummy · 17/06/2012 17:56

35 stitches gives me 6 inch. Tribpot so that should work out ok for me. Have the initials been done by any one or do they need doing?

prettybird · 17/06/2012 18:07

Tribpot - this is the pattern where I ended up using three colours (Row 6 of Pattern I); as long as you kept them in the same order in your hand it wasn't too difficult. What was "fun" Hmm was learning how to knit on three/four needles for the sleeves and do the pattern! Grin The end result is here - the white one was my first one and the blue one was my second, made in a larger size for her larger twin brother.

I've just started on a third one, which I'm doing much larger, on the basis that my other nephew can wear it before it gets passed on to the twins. This one is in dark blue with white and the aqua or lighter blue for 2nd contrast colour.

Also on that Flickr feed is my first ever Icelandic jumper, done just over a year ago. I've photo-ed the back - looking back on it now, I'm pretty impressed Wink. For that pattern (another free one for the Icelandic wool shops) I only had to cope with two colours within a row.

tribpot · 17/06/2012 19:55

bird, those are amazing. I love the first one particularly - and SOOOOO neat on the back!

Ooh lovely pretty! Can I have one!

I'm making your mums tablet tonight! Wish me luck!

Glaikit · 17/06/2012 20:17

Argh! PRETTY HELP

DO I TAKE IT OFF THE HEAT TO BEAT?

You have 10 minutes!!!

PurplePidjin · 17/06/2012 20:23

www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/simple-raglan-baby-jacket

Might tackle it now, bored by football...

Glaikit · 17/06/2012 20:27

Pidj what do you think, beat off the heat? I think that's sensible, seeing as it molten sugar.

tribpot · 17/06/2012 20:38

Take it off the heat! I don't know if that's right, but it sounds less risky to life and limb.

OP posts:
tribpot · 17/06/2012 20:38

And sweet jacket, Pidj!

OP posts:
Glaikit · 17/06/2012 20:41

I'm beating it now. Phew, this is one for th bingo wings!
