We recently heard the devastating news that Matildawormwood's beautiful baby son, Daniel, was born sleeping.
Matilda's thread is here. Our thoughts are with Daniel and Matilda?s family.

We have offered to make a blanket and Matilda is very touched that people would do this for their family. We hope that the blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them all.

So, we need knitters and crocheters. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.
At the moment there is quite a lot of wool still in circulation because of the current blanket projects. Where possible, we hope to 'recycle' as much as we possibly can.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool.

One ball should make at least 2 x 6' squares.
If you are a crocheter and/or an experienced knitter needing donor wool, could you let us know when you PM us as we can send part balls from the 'recycled' wool stash. Thanks.

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

We are also introducing two new yarns:

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.
It's another 'silky' wool that fits in nicely alongside the DB and Rowan wools and can be combined with both.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.
Although it isn't as silky as our normal wools, it is soft yet hardy and washes in the same way. It has the added appeal of being a good ethical option and is very reasonably priced.

The Colours:

Blues, greens and cream.

Ideas for squares:

The initials D and N

Motifs: Stars, trees, birds, hearts, snowdrops, sailing boats.

Please don't feel daunted by this as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen on the WoollyHugs website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs.

As always, thank you so much for your support. Thanks Thanks Thanks

Thell, anything that shows you care is welcome and appreciated Thanks

TimeForCake · 28/06/2012 19:54

Not popped in for a while - bit of a non stop week this one! Sounds like all the squares are coming on nicely though. I have some pesky ends to deal with and then some parcelling up to do. I'm right in thinking these are going to Knotty aren't I?

KnottyLocks · 28/06/2012 20:12

Yes please, Cakey Smile

My pleasure. I have enjoyed every stitch even those I have dropped, undone or knitted!

Woolly hugs. Xxxx

thell · 29/06/2012 10:32

Oop, sorry guys - I automatically sent the squares to Pistey instead of Knotty...will double check next time Blush

Pidj, I really like your wavy square! I was searching for a pattern for a square like that - did you find one, or make it up? I've not tried ripples yet and didn't want to start trying on this project if I was going to find I couldn't easily square them off.

Pleiades45 · 29/06/2012 13:19

Squares have just gone in the post. You should have them tomorrow.

Youcanringmybell · 29/06/2012 13:49

Hiya - I am currently in the process of making a patchwork blanket for my daughter and so am in the square knitting mode and can knit as many as you require. I am happy to knit some squares if I am needed but unsure of who to contact. Is it possible to have some wool sent to me as I have bought 50 balls of Rico designs essentials cotton DK which I do not think will be suitable for what you ladies needs for Matildawormwood.

Can I be of help??

PurplePidjin · 29/06/2012 14:07

Thell, it's just increases and decreases.

Ch 26, dc in 2nd and across. Ch2 turn

3dc in 1st st, dc next 3 together. Repeat across, ch2 turn.

Repeat till you get 6". I changed colour randomly, bearing in mind the boat theme and I live by the Solent! (so lots of grey)

It might be similar to the Attic24 ripples??

PurplePidjin · 29/06/2012 14:09

Youcanringmybell, PM RatherBeOnThePiste to see. The deadline for posting is this Saturday, so it might be tight getting wool to you but we can try! Thanks

Please still pm Pistey, you never know and the deadline is more of a slightly sleepy line tbh

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/06/2012 17:27

Hello Wine

TodaysAGoodDay · 29/06/2012 18:46

Hi Pistey,
I sent off my (plain) square for Matilda today, you may get it tomorrow, or Monday.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 29/06/2012 19:38

I keep forgetting I need to pass a postbox, but my (now much travelled) parcel of two minty squares is all done and will definitely be on its way tomorrow.

LookAtHerGo · 29/06/2012 20:22

Pm sent to Pistey :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/06/2012 20:31

I am replying to PMs with the speed of a thousand gazelles, and finishing my squares at the same time. Oooh and having a gin. Multitasking at its finest.

Grin
LookAtHerGo · 29/06/2012 20:40

Ooh gin squares?!

KnottyLocks · 29/06/2012 20:51

Yep, gin squares. Luckily she dies them out by sucking every drop of gin out of em before she sends them. Saves on postage Smile
