We recently heard the devastating news that Matildawormwood's beautiful baby son, Daniel, was born sleeping.
Matilda's thread is here. Our thoughts are with Daniel and Matilda?s family.

We have offered to make a blanket and Matilda is very touched that people would do this for their family. We hope that the blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them all.

So, we need knitters and crocheters. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.
At the moment there is quite a lot of wool still in circulation because of the current blanket projects. Where possible, we hope to 'recycle' as much as we possibly can.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool.

One ball should make at least 2 x 6' squares.
If you are a crocheter and/or an experienced knitter needing donor wool, could you let us know when you PM us as we can send part balls from the 'recycled' wool stash. Thanks.

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

We are also introducing two new yarns:

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.
It's another 'silky' wool that fits in nicely alongside the DB and Rowan wools and can be combined with both.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.
Although it isn't as silky as our normal wools, it is soft yet hardy and washes in the same way. It has the added appeal of being a good ethical option and is very reasonably priced.

The Colours:

Blues, greens and cream.

Ideas for squares:

The initials D and N

Motifs: Stars, trees, birds, hearts, snowdrops, sailing boats.

Please don't feel daunted by this as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen on the WoollyHugs website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs.

As always, thank you so much for your support. Thanks Thanks Thanks

Still get the odd one with a slice of lemon attached mind.

Lemon in gin? Shock Travesty!!

KnottyLocks · 29/06/2012 20:58

Shouldn't worry about it , Pidj. The lemon barely sees the gin before the gin has disappeared .

Thanks Pidj - so you don't square the ripples off at the top and bottom?

I'm keen to have a go, but have a few projects all lined up and mustn't get ahead of myself :s

Ooh, gin - yum!
I'm having a cheeky honey ale.

chin chin!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/06/2012 21:09

.........Do you know, I'd stay and chat about gin, you know I would, but I am very busy in the PM department.

And I'm not talking Prime Minister.....

LookAtHerGo · 29/06/2012 21:19

At least I'm not worrying about you getting your 5 a day :o

prettybird · 29/06/2012 21:42

The hookers Wink seem to be turbo-charged today Grin. I wonder if it is all the sugar loading they have indulged in today?? HmmHmm

PurplePidjin · 29/06/2012 22:04

Thell, i did a row of htc for the first and last rows. I have also just realised i wrote dc when i meant htc, although it would work for dc, htc or tc i reckon.

KnottyLocks · 29/06/2012 22:10

PrettyBird! Tis your own fault, innit? Plying us with sugary treats Grin

Did you not realise that you were partaking of a Scottish health food?!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/06/2012 22:40

Have had an absolute calamity with a square.

Multi coloured granny, on the last round and for some reason, probably because I did something wrong, the third round has come undone. So now three trebles on the row above aren't holding onto anything. Nothing I can do.

Was my best ever granny too. Gah. So cross with myself.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/06/2012 22:43

This is worse than Safety Pin Square.

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 29/06/2012 22:46

Pistey, how you managed three trebles holding onto nothing warrants some kind of investigation! That is pretty amazing, would love to see it :)

prettybird · 29/06/2012 22:49

I'm sure the hookers will be able to sort it just goes to prove that you shouldn't have been so quick to diss knitting GrinWinkSmile

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/06/2012 22:50

No that would be something!!

They are no longer holding onto anything. That's the bit that's come undone and unravelled.

PurplePidjin · 29/06/2012 22:51

Do you tie the new pesky end to the old yarn when you change colour? I always double knot them before I cut the old colour off, but I've never seen a tute suggest it Hmm

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/06/2012 22:52

This is beyond even our Great and Glorious Leader Sad

I cannot tell you how close I was to finishing.

trumpton · 29/06/2012 22:58

Oh PISTEY would a bodkin help at all, do you think ?

KnottyLocks · 29/06/2012 23:28

Erm, how the hell did you manage that then? Send a pic!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 30/06/2012 07:24

If you frog it and re-crochet it a bit tighter, you may be able to remedy it even if you've cut the end of the yarn a little short especially if you are usually a loose hooker.

nickelbarapasaurus · 30/06/2012 10:46

i think we need to see a picture (y'know, so that we can point and laugh know what to avoid) Wink

nickelbarapasaurus · 30/06/2012 10:48

yes, i think a bodkin would help, too - if it's not unravelled from itself, you could sew it back together.

NessaRose · 30/06/2012 12:27

Offs so sorry I missed the post office. Blush
