We recently heard the devastating news that Matildawormwood's beautiful baby son, Daniel, was born sleeping.
Matilda's thread is here. Our thoughts are with Daniel and Matilda?s family.

We have offered to make a blanket and Matilda is very touched that people would do this for their family. We hope that the blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them all.

So, we need knitters and crocheters. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.
At the moment there is quite a lot of wool still in circulation because of the current blanket projects. Where possible, we hope to 'recycle' as much as we possibly can.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool.

One ball should make at least 2 x 6' squares.
If you are a crocheter and/or an experienced knitter needing donor wool, could you let us know when you PM us as we can send part balls from the 'recycled' wool stash. Thanks.

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

We are also introducing two new yarns:

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.
It's another 'silky' wool that fits in nicely alongside the DB and Rowan wools and can be combined with both.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.
Although it isn't as silky as our normal wools, it is soft yet hardy and washes in the same way. It has the added appeal of being a good ethical option and is very reasonably priced.

The Colours:

Blues, greens and cream.

Ideas for squares:

The initials D and N

Motifs: Stars, trees, birds, hearts, snowdrops, sailing boats.

Please don't feel daunted by this as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen on the WoollyHugs website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs.

As always, thank you so much for your support. Thanks Thanks Thanks

Eskarina · 15/06/2012 07:36

Just finished my first square for this blanket - and my first attempt at lace knitting. It comes out at just under 6" I hope that's ok?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/06/2012 07:40

If it can stretch to 6" the it is absolutely fine. Sounds lovely Eskarina Thanks

BIWItheBold · 15/06/2012 08:07

What's the deadline ladies for this blanket? I've read the first post twice just incase I've missed it , but I can't see it. I've made a boo boo on the square and need to restart.

MittzbethSalander · 15/06/2012 16:27

That's brilliant Soup and I live your crochet hook Smile
I work on needles and hooks inherited from an elderly aunt.

DS thinks Basket Weave is super complicated and talented Jacks Smile I keep quiet about it and let him admire me Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/06/2012 16:41

PurplePidjin · 15/06/2012 16:43

Last posting is usually 3-4 weeks after the call goes out, but can't really be properly decided until all the donated wool is accounted for.

So, no huge rush just yet, fanjo Thanks

PurplePidjin · 15/06/2012 16:45

Ha, x post! Sorry, Pistey!

MittzbethSalander · 15/06/2012 17:12

Can I ask how many co-ordinators there are? Please.., is it Purple, Pistey and Knotty?

< a bit nosy>

Whenisitmysleepytime · 15/06/2012 17:18

I started on my donor wool today - took the dc to the zoo and they both fell asleep before 10! They did get up at 5.30 tho! Luckily I was prepare and had wool and hook and scissors on standby! Grin half an hour of peace in the zoo carpark and I'm on my way!

PurplePidjin · 15/06/2012 17:21

That's us, Mittz. MNHQ pitch in with stuff when they can, and Mr Pistey has had a hand in the website, i think?

fanjodisfunction · 15/06/2012 17:21

Oh good I've got plently of time to get it right then! Phew!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 15/06/2012 17:24

Mittz - I believe pistey is the one with the spreadsheet or scribbled list on the back an envelope Grin I think knotty and pidj hook it together? Maybe?
Either way my head ends up in a spin just thinking about organising something of this size, never mind the epic task of joining all our squares! :)

soremummy · 15/06/2012 17:27

Hi I can do a teddy square or baby feet? If you can give me the link for the tricky tree one i'll have a look at it. I know first page has colours on but have you any preference eg do you have to many o one colour and not another and want to balance it out? I will go online and order some wool tonight unless you have someone who is willing to post some to me x

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/06/2012 17:27

Mr Piste hasn't done the website.... Just sayin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/06/2012 17:29

soremummy No spare donors at the mo, so if you can please do go ahead and order I shall PM you the details.

PurplePidjin · 15/06/2012 17:34

Soremummy, the rules are: 6" square-ish and pick something that represents you. You'll get 2-3 squares from a ball of wool :)

PurplePidjin · 15/06/2012 17:35

I said helped not did!
