Support thread 2 - new blankets

This is a continuation of our thread supporting MNers creating blanket squares for Woolly Hugs. All are welcome and I'm hoping to post a link soon to a collection of our fave patterns, pics and links to keep them all in one place. In the meantime, this new thread will allow phone-based MNers like RedRosie to return from Special Phone Exile where she goes whenever the thread has too many messages on.

This is a thread of peace where knitters and crocheters, donors and crafters are all equally welcome.

Can I be on the woolly map too please?

Got halfway up my slipstitch square, then realised a glaring mistake in the sixth row, so back to the start for me

tribpot · 14/06/2012 20:35

droitwichmummy, might I reasonably guess that you live in ... Droitwich?

Excellent poem as ever Rosie!

tribpot · 14/06/2012 20:36

DAISY, I shall put you in a vaguely Meanwoodish direction?

OP posts:
droitwichmummy · 14/06/2012 21:15

However did you guess trib?Wink

tribpot · 14/06/2012 21:18

A keen, detective mind, droitwich

Hope you approve of your locations. DAISY lives in our local Sainsbos according to my map (there's a Homebase as well, so she has all the basics covered) and droitwich you live at Norbury House, which was one of the town's spa hotels before being converted into flats (as I'm sure you know).

LackaDAISYcal · 14/06/2012 21:37

Yup, Sainsbos is close enough Grin

But Meanwood? Wash your mouth out woman! We prefer Far Moortown, or Lesser Alwoodley Wink

I've finished my green square Grin. I'm so happy to have done it. What do I do with it now?! I have two long dangly bits which I'm not sure what to do with....I'd quite like to send it to someone before I start the blue one, to make sure it passes muster if that sounds ok. In one direction it's pretty spot in 6", but in the other way it's about 6" and a notch or two ( 6 and 2/8ths if that's what you say? ).

RedRosie · 14/06/2012 21:50

You are a woman of discernment and taste Daisy.

I hope DS is ok Minnie. Poor little chap.

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 14/06/2012 21:58

Oh Oh Oh Oh trib pur-lease can I be on your map?
I was plodding on with my ripple blanket whilst waiting for my woolly love, but went to the pub to watch the match :(

A poem to the boys in green #coybig :o
The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain,
but since they beat Ireland I must complain
Wool will console me
At least until Italy
When the Green Army will rise again

MinnieBar · 14/06/2012 22:14

Awww, you guys - awesome volcano and poem, thank you! And the map is looking splendid in general.

Actually the poem pretty accurately describes what happened. He's still holding it a bit funny and shrieked when DD2 accidentally bashed it, but managed to play some Lego Star Wars Hmm and went to sleep ok so he's deffo on the mend, phew. Hurrah for the NHS.

Really appreciate the kind words - being away from home makes it seem a bit harder IYKWIM? Will be glad to get back!

tribpot · 14/06/2012 22:18

Oh Minnie, didn't realise you were still on hols, will move the helicopter back at once.

Formerly, you're very welcome to be on the map but I need a small clue about where to put you. Unless there is a village somewhere called FormerlyTitledUntidy?

bobkate, you need to sew the ends in. Do you have a suitable large, blunt (tapestry) needle? I don't think you need to send it off, if you take a photo we will make suitably approving noises. Your measurements sound much more accurate than mine ever are.

DAISY - you could pretty much guarantee any name anyone tries to give to any part of Leeds will be wrong according to some of its residents!

bobkate · 14/06/2012 22:18

Minnie - it must have been hard to watch them put it back into place. Glad he's managed to have a little play time.
Well here's my square...first of many I hope Smile square

tribpot · 14/06/2012 22:20

Very neat work, bobkate! Go you!

bobkate · 14/06/2012 22:20

I have a pink plastic needle from my daughter's first sewing kit! Think that'll do. Do I just wiggle the ends in amongst the stitches? I'm petrified about cocking it up at the last hurdle!

bobkate · 14/06/2012 22:21

Thanks Trib! Shall I just crack on with the blue one then do you reckon?

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 14/06/2012 22:24

Can you not tell from my poem trib? Wink

tribpot · 14/06/2012 22:25

Definitely just go ahead with the blue - no need to pay the Royal Mail any more than necessary to get these squares to their destination. Here are some fancy ways of sewing in ends, but for this, as the edges are going to be covered by crochet anyway, you can just slip the thread along the top or side for a few inches, then cut the rest off.

tribpot · 14/06/2012 22:26

I've narrowed it down to Spain or Ireland, Formerly. Wink

OP posts:
tribpot · 14/06/2012 22:26

Or Italy.

OP posts:
FormerlyTitledUntidy · 14/06/2012 22:29

Ireland :) and :(
But if you put me in Spain does it mean I magically appear there?!

bobkate · 14/06/2012 22:29

Cool - thanks Trib, and thanks for the link. I'll come back to that when I'm feeling a bit more adventurous Grin. Luckily for me the DDs are spending the afternoon and night at my aunties tomorrow and my DH is away so I have the house to myself so I think I'll start the blue tomorrow.

tribpot · 14/06/2012 22:31

Hmm, no, otherwise I would put myself in Spain too.

As I believe it is well known that everyone in Ireland lives in Dublin, shall I put you there? Next door to Marian Keyes and the guys out of Westlife?

droitwichmummy · 14/06/2012 22:32

Trib, I pass near Norbury House most days so v happy with location. Feel like a proper blanketeer now!

prettybird · 14/06/2012 22:38

Tribpot - I've managed about an inch of the brioche! Apart from the fact that the RS and the WS don't seem to correlate with what I'm doing, the end result seems to look about right Smile

Took me a couple of goes to get going - was doing too many yarn overs/forward - but your brioche blog helped! Smile

Think it would look really good with two toning colours.
