We have heard the desperately sad news that MrsY has lost her precious baby son Benedict and have offered to make a blanket for her and her family. She is very touched by everyone's kindness, and would love to receive one. Here is the original thread

So once again we are calling on the Blanketeers for help - whether it be donating, knitting or crocheting. Will you join us?

PM me and let me know how you can help, if you need matching up and I will be able to help you

For pictures from previous blankets, see here www.woollyhugs.com

As in the past, the wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)
  • or Rowan cashsoft DK

They are very similar and can be combined

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks
  • Cast on 33 stitches
  • 6" squares

The colours for this project
Blues, warm purples, greens, silver and cream

So sad that another blanket is needed Sad Sending love to MrsY and her family.

Knitter - one of your squares, the brighter pink one, feels extra snuggly, like it is almost double, I've never seen one like it, what is that stitch? Tis glorious.

Pleiades - I'm admiring your grannies, they are beautiful. Do you do a chain between the edges? Two chains in the middle of the corner, yes, but do you do other chains between too?

Pistey, er Confused I don't know. They are my first attempts at going round in circles/squares. I'm going to have a go at doing with more than one colour next and crocheting in the ends as suggested by pidjin.

I'll try to explain.. when I got to the end of a round, I did a slip stitch into the first set of stitches, then I did a slip stitch in between those trebles and into the space at the corner so that I could start the next round.

I'm now reaching for the Wine technical questions on crochet.... whatever next???

PurplePidjin · 18/05/2012 18:17
Wine

Pleiades, after you've done the three stitches called Trebles that make a shell/cluster What Do You Do?

A) yarn over and pull it through the hook, ignoring the square you're making

B) make three more trebles in the next gap.

Wine
RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/05/2012 18:43

Pleiades - if those were your first attempts then I am really impressed!! So neat and even Envy

And what Pidj said. A) or B) ???!!

PS I apologise if that came across as patronising Blush

Pleiades45 · 18/05/2012 19:15

Patronising not at all.

I just followed the instructions which were 3ch(1tr) 2 tr ch3 3tr into same space, 1ch 3tr in the 1ch between clusters on previous row. So just 1ch between clusters except for the corners where there are 3ch. And because I used the one colour I slip stitched into 3rd chain of 1tr and then slipped stitch between the tr in the cluster to get to the corner.

Does that make sense? Sorry, I'm really just getting used to the terminology in crochet and DH bought me a beautiful book of crochet all with American terminology to confuse me even more!

Thanks Pistey, I was actually amazed they turned out square!

KisMittzAteALLThePies · 18/05/2012 19:30

Ermm... is there an average as to how many squares people send?
I have done 4....

Kis, if you send one we will be thrilled. If you send four, we will be thrilled. Most people stop when the wool runs out...

Joyful, we need lots of plain ones, please keep going!!

KisMittzAteALLThePies · 18/05/2012 20:15

Yes it does get easier joyful and I mostly do Plain and Purl and they serve me very well for some lovely projects Smile

Thanks Purple Smile.

I am finishing a few of these, for a project of my own Smile
