We have heard the desperately sad news that MrsY has lost her precious baby son Benedict and have offered to make a blanket for her and her family. She is very touched by everyone's kindness, and would love to receive one. Here is the original thread

So once again we are calling on the Blanketeers for help - whether it be donating, knitting or crocheting. Will you join us?

PM me and let me know how you can help, if you need matching up and I will be able to help you

For pictures from previous blankets, see here www.woollyhugs.com

As in the past, the wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)
  • or Rowan cashsoft DK

They are very similar and can be combined

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks
  • Cast on 33 stitches
  • 6" squares

The colours for this project
Blues, warm purples, greens, silver and cream

So sad that another blanket is needed Sad Sending love to MrsY and her family.

I posted this on the wrong thread, sorry. But I also forgot a bit, so I thought I'd post here, too.

I just wanted to drop by and thank you all for your kind thoughts and this amazing, amazing thing you are doing. I'm really humbled that you give up your time and money to help someone that you've never met. I knit and I never knew about this group Blush.

Thank you all for your kind words on Benedict's thread, as well. The more people who know about Benedict, the more I feel he is validated as a person. It means a lot to us.

My mum has ordered some wool for her and some friends to knit/crochet (although it's taking forever to get here), so if it's ok, I wil forward them on to the right person once they are done to be included in the blanket?

MrsY, I spotted you on the other thread first and replied before I found you here too Smile

Lovely idea about including your mum's squares. We'll get the address details to you. x

Lovely to have your mum contribute, when she's ready just drop me a PM and I'll give you the address for posting.

Morning Brew

Well either everyone is happy in the World of Wool or the PMs are broken - I don't seem to have any!

Off to work as normal this morning, catch up at lunchtime

Morning Smile

Work for me too. I'll pop in when I can.

Thing3 · 16/05/2012 08:23

Can I just ask what we have to do with the ends of the wool. Do we need to sew them into the square or leave them for joinig together? Also my edges, to me, look quite messy. Does this matter?

TIA

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/05/2012 08:29

Yes please, sew in the ends!
And the edges seem to be magically covered up by the process of crocheting the squares together. Thanks

Thank you. My wool hasn't arrived yet so I'm starting to get itchy fingers! I'm not sure what colour I have ordered but hopefully it will be suitable.

nickelbabe · 16/05/2012 11:41

Piste - I haven't asked for wool!

Can I please join in this blanket too?
I read MrsY's post when she first posted it :(

MadameMessy · 16/05/2012 12:34

Does the crochet seem very "holey" beside the knit squares? I am doing some of both but just wondering whether I should be " denser" squares iykwim?

nickelbabe · 16/05/2012 12:34

no, it's fine - lots of squares of all different types :)

tillyfernackerpants · 16/05/2012 13:06

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/05/2012 13:12

Good news Tilly!

Messy, have a look at some of the previous blankets on our website and you will see how beautifully the crochet and knitting sit together, totally gorgeoise.
