We heard yesterday the very sad news that Greengoose's beautiful baby daughter, Merryn passed away. Greengoose's thread can be found here

We have offered to make a blanket for the family. We hope that it may give whatever comfort it can to them all.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball plus P&P.

Crafters, if you need wool, please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, pinks, greens, silvers and cream

Ideas for squares:

Birds have a symbolic meaning to the family so if you could incorporate any bird design that would be lovely.

Please don't feel daunted by this as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen on the WoollyHugs website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs.

As always, thank you so much for your support.

Thanks

Frog frog frogetty frog... Confused Grin

Whenisitmysleepytime · 27/05/2012 21:06

Hi all!

I've finished my yarn!

BUT I am 2 granny square cluster thingies away from finishing the last square!!!
Should I frog it? It is just a plain granny square. But it's SO close to being finished.

Can I have some woolly hugs words of wisdom please!

PurplePidjin · 27/05/2012 21:15

What colour is it, there might be a match in my bag of ends - or Knotty's :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/05/2012 21:15

How about you frog that round and then send it to me and I'll put another round on to make it to the right size, like a border?

Cake - going well then?

I have replied to Pms Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/05/2012 21:21

Get me Knotty Grin

Technical terms and an offer to help someone with their crochet In the same sentence.

Whatever next? Wine cheers!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 27/05/2012 21:37

Hi piste and pidj!

It's a cream colour - Debbie bliss colour 18013.
I don't mind frogging a round but if you've got a scrap that would work too I guess. Whatever's easiest for who ever gets to hook the squares together. :)

PurplePidjin · 27/05/2012 21:46

I have a scrap that looks cream in this light...

PM me your address and I'll pop it in the post :)

TimeForCake · 27/05/2012 21:47

Back on track now! Square coming on ok ish for the time being. Think I have now crocheted more than I have frogged today! Grin

Whenisitmysleepytime · 27/05/2012 21:51

Pidj - piste has instructed me to frog the last round and she said she'll stick a border on it. Thanks for the wool offer tho :) but we're going on holiday on Wednesday so I wouldn't get it done for the deadline.
Although I will be taking a bag of hooky business with me! Grin

TimeForCake · 27/05/2012 21:51

Ps Pistey you are certainly going up in the woolly world! Technical terms and offering to help? Marvellous! Grin I reckon your real woolly roots lie elsewhere though. Wink

PurplePidjin · 27/05/2012 22:02

No worries, have fun!!

KnottyLocks · 27/05/2012 22:12

Ok, rather intrigued... Confused what is to frog it?!! Sorry not up to speed with all the technical words but would like to learn!!

TimeForCake · 27/05/2012 22:20

Undoing what you've done... I think! Am by no means an expert though!

PurplePidjin · 27/05/2012 22:20

Jules, it's when you rip-it rip-it...

Ie undo all your hard work. We also use the term Tink or Tinking, which is when you knit backwards.

:o

TimeForCake · 27/05/2012 22:22

Grin Love that Pidj!

Jules146 · 28/05/2012 08:13

Lol! Now I get it, thank u :)

Pastabee · 28/05/2012 09:04

Morning all. Have pm'd you pistey as I'm ready for a trip to the PO. Sadly this means interaction with the terribly miserable and often cross post lady..... I'm certain not even the lovely weather will make her crack a smile.

thell · 28/05/2012 11:24

Morning!! ooh, I could do with a real life Brew

I got all my yarn finally last week - I've finished two squares and not far off with a third. I'm aiming for four altogether, but how many is usual? I wouldn't want to leave you short. I've got plenty of yarn I think.

I'm on hols next week too, so will post soon.

thell · 28/05/2012 11:26

Bah! Meant to post on the support thread for both blankets !

Practicallyperfectnot · 28/05/2012 13:44

Posted first class my parcel of random goodies!!!!

Pasta bee - yes, I, too, had to be brave going to a mega grumpy PO (people will travel to avoid going to this one if they can! Interestingly cheap pregnancy tests for sale as well as Sellotape, bubble wrap, bunting ....). I decided to be extra smiley and thanked them for having a fan in the long queue. I did get a little smile back. I then said good morning to any elderly person walking by and spread smiles around! Have a go! It gives everyone a feel good factor!

Pastabee · 28/05/2012 14:22

Hmmm, maybe. Normally all customers just stand quietly, united in fear!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 28/05/2012 19:53
