We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

Thank you all so very much Thanks

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 29/02/2012 16:20

right! try now...

nickelhasababy · 29/02/2012 16:21

I've just made a loely bobble square that started at bigger than 6 inches and ended as less than 5inches.
not sure how that happened, but i've had to add a border.
looks a bit messy round the edge :(

nickelhasababy · 29/02/2012 16:21

still not.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 29/02/2012 16:24

KnottyLocks · 29/02/2012 16:35

Size 4 knitting needles, cable needle and crochet hook (for when I drop stitches - still don't know how to crochet Blush) now packed into the suitcase. :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/02/2012 17:25

What is a cable needle??!! Confused

Dingle · 29/02/2012 17:34

I am using a big fat cable needle at the moment as the rest of mine have gone awol! Blush

prettybird · 29/02/2012 18:10

It's just a short needle with points at either end, so that you can slip stitches on to it, leave it sitting at the back or front (depending on what the pattern says) continue knitting some more stitches on the "ordinary" needle and then go back and knit the stitches that were put onto the cable needle. You then knit the following rows normally before doing another cable with the stitches left at the front (if they were "back" before) or back (if they were "front" before). Et voila, a twisted cable has been formed. It sound complicated, but it is in fact amazingly easy.

If you've not learnt before, I'll teach you in July :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/02/2012 18:14

Am posting all woolly donations on both threads as I know lots of people are kindly donating and knitting for both concurrently

That sounds like a threat Pretty!

moogdroog · 29/02/2012 18:29

Just want to say thank you to my lovely donor (pale green DB). Lovely surprise when I got home. I will knit it up to the very best of my abilities.

MinnieBar · 29/02/2012 18:36

I was knitting a square in the John Lewis cafe yesterday - I half expected someone to come up to me and say 'Are you a Mumsnetter?' Grin

It's going to be bamboo- pattern to (hopefully!) fit in with the earth theme.

PurplePidjin · 29/02/2012 18:49

I don't think any of the nice ladies at my knit and natter this morning were mn'ers either, Minnie look out net mums are everywhere

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 29/02/2012 18:54

GentleOtter - lovey squares - nice colours!

Soupy - I love the bobbly one - might do a cushion in it when I get around to sorting the lounge out :) and learn to crochet

Jax - it's lovely :) that's a really pretty colour. Are you sure we can't drag you along encourage you to come on Friday??

Pistey - well done to DD :) I'm sure you could make it Friday if you tried realllllllllllllllly hard !! Come on, you know you want to!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 29/02/2012 18:55

Minnie - are you coming on Friday?

Do you have any parking suggestions for the Global Cafe (trying to avoid the Oracle!)

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 29/02/2012 18:57

I am going to try my very best to come on Friday, I have never been to Reading but I do have Satnav and a car.

Someone PM me where we are meeting again please.

PurplePidjin · 29/02/2012 19:10

GLOBAL Cafe, i'll be there with knobs on crochet from about 11:15.

Invitation open to all :)

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 29/02/2012 19:10

Jax - meeting place is Global Cafe Reading - 35-39 London Street Reading, West Berkshire RG1 4PS 0118 958 3555

It's not in the centre near the shops, but it's not too far, it's about half a mile from the train station.

I'm driving as well, just trying to decide where to park as the Oracle is bloody expensive. I think it cost me £15 for about 4 hours last time and you still need to walk to the cafe, so not even convenient! It's on a reasonably busy one way road.

I think in some ways we'd be better off meeting actually in Reading (shops) but I can't think of a cafe that has comfy seats and would be happy for us to take up residence! Minnie (I think anyway?!) said this one was 'knitter friendly' and vegetarian cafes are normally very welcoming and relaxed - so from that pov it's perfect.

I think it would be best if those meeting up swapped mobile numbers too incase anyone needs help to find it or whatever

PurpleKittyKnitting · 29/02/2012 19:12

My other ball arrived today, thank you donor! I now have 3 different colours and hope to do a 3 colour granny square with them
