We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

Thank you all so very much Thanks

I need to have a word with you lovely donors

You are all as much a part of these projects as those who craft. Without you there would be far less wool, far fewer squares and these blankets really wouldn't happen as they do now.
You are as vital a part of these projects as the crafters, as vital as the wool itself.

So no more running yourselves down now. or I'll be having a few more words. [sleep deprived] Consider yourselves told.

Thanks Smile

I'm giggling at your dream, Deafworm Grin

Just don't take the knitting needles to bed with you. [risk assessment]

Kayzr · 28/02/2012 07:26

Knotty, I have done that. I'm in the middle of trying to knit a hat. I had been sat in bed knitting and fallen asleep. Luckily I didn't stab myself or ruin the hat.

Deafworm · 28/02/2012 08:01

Glad it raised a smile, I thought it might be worth sharing, no needles in bed I promise. Though I was slightly jealous of the rum doing the rounds last night :o

I'm seconding your donor comments too, without my donor I probably couldn't have knitted and then I would have deprived you all of my knitting dreams! On the bright side it was a lot better than the previous nights flea in child's ear that turned into a giant wasp

KnottyLocks · 28/02/2012 08:16

We needed the rum!

The PM drama unfolded on MrsKwazii's blanket thread. Pistey and I were frantically deleting old PMs, texting each other and alerting MNHQ like mad.

I'd like to thank my donor for sending the wool - initials I think are DH.

I'm hoping I get my donated wool in time, but have lots of leftovers from previous projects to use up. Could be some interesting colours combos...

OpheliaBumps · 28/02/2012 12:17

Knotty I was gong to fashion some kind of pocket square for Barnacles, but will it cause you a problem to have a square that's twice the thickness of all the others?

If so, I can just use velcro to attach him to a square, so he's 'part of' the blanket itself iyswim.

KnottyLocks · 28/02/2012 12:24

Ophelia, on a few of the previous blankets we've had some little teddies that we have attached to the blanket by little 'scarves' around their necks. Do you think that would work with Captain B?

OP posts:
KnottyLocks · 28/02/2012 12:25

Like a DCrochet chain?

OP posts:
KnottyLocks · 28/02/2012 12:27

Trouble with velcro would be that it would attach itself to everything, possibly pulling threads.

OP posts:
KnottyLocks · 28/02/2012 12:28

I've just had another look at him. We could easily attach him by scarf.

OpheliaBumps · 28/02/2012 12:29

Hi Knotty, yes, that'd work, thanks! I'll get cracking with that tonight.

KnottyLocks · 28/02/2012 12:35

Marvellous. Thanks you. Smile

Shall I re do Peso's scarf so he ties on?

TimeForCake · 28/02/2012 13:33

Peso and Barnacles are just gorgeous! Saw a bit of Octonauts yesterday- DS is a little bit young to really enjoy it but it looks good. Just makes me so sad every time I see it now.
Really want to get cracking but wool not arrived yet. Will have to investigate my order. At this rate, I will be forced to attack the World book day costume I should have done by now but keep putting off.
Very pleased there are lots of other woolly novices across both threads though!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 28/02/2012 15:37

My two favourite World Book Day costumes for DS were jeans and a T shirt combined with a golden ticket and a chocolate bar : Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Or same clothing plus a large plastic bottle filled with some goopy mixture and a ladle for George's Marvellous Medicine. Pips! Obv sellotaping the lid down extra tight cos the teacher won't thank you if the 'medicine' spills out in assembly Grin

DD always went as Ginny Weasley. Every year! She has just lent her outfit to someone, they wanted to buy it, but she can't bear to let her Harry Potter cloak, tie, jumper and scarf go. Nice when she forgets she needs to be seen to be cool. She is 14. Grin

All PMs replied to, heartfelt thanks to everyone. Thanks

Reminder of the deadlines.......

Thanks Blanket for Wubbly's family - Monday 19th March
Thanks Blanket for Mrs Kwazii - Monday 26th March

So that's two Saturdays I will be running to the Post Office in my pyjamas then....

Earlier is absolutely fine, just PM me for the address when you are ready

PurplePidjin · 28/02/2012 16:19

I went to the book launch of the law HP book as Hermione, Pistey. But only because I took my latest ginger fluffball on his harness and lead. Very popular Grin ignores daftness of 25yo self going to children's book party

nickelhasababy · 28/02/2012 16:23

Knotty's right donors - i wouldn't be able to take part if i hadn't received two balls of wool.

JustGettingByMum · 28/02/2012 16:52

Happy to donate wool/cash. HAve PMd

prettybird · 28/02/2012 17:06

Thanks for the dates Piste Smile. That means there's still time to post off the squares when I get back from skiing.

SoupDragon · 28/02/2012 17:12

Plenty of time to think up who to address the parcel to... fabulous.

Dingle · 28/02/2012 17:18

JUst a little update, a gorgeous ball of Vamp, a lovely purple, has been squidged through my letterbox whilst I was at work today. So eager to start but I need to get DDs dinner on as she has swimming for the disabled tonight, then I need to try and find out what time DS will finish hockey so I can plan dinner for the rest of us...I fear it could be a rather broken mealtime tonight.

A HUGE thank you for the organisation that goes into these Woolly Hugs and to my fabby wool donor, I am another knitter who probably couldn't contribute otherwise. Thanks
