We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

Thank you all so very much Thanks

I have been making enquiries about bulk buying some wool, but you would think I was trying to buy plutonium!

hmmf.

I have a question about knitting needles. (probably a daft one)

I have some with a red circle on top that says 8, some metal ones with a blob thing on top which has a 6 and some say 4mm or whatever on the side of the needle. How do I know which is UK/US or something else? Confused

DonkeyTeapot · 27/02/2012 08:24

JaxTeller Some of them are probably old UK sizes too, as they used to be numbered too, rather than having the size in mm. There's a chart of sizes HERE

So your ones with the red 8 on are probably 4mm, does that look about right?

GentleOtter · 27/02/2012 10:43

Jax - you can get a needle sizer from knitting shops. you poke the needle in various size holes and it tells you UK, American and the other one Blush forgot. They cost roughly £1.

Second square finished. Will try to upload a photo later. Smile

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 27/02/2012 10:47

yes I think I am going to invest in one of those needle sizey thingies (technical term)

My wool arrived this morning, thank you so much to my wonderful donor. I shall get knitting later, I have a pattern in mind, tempted to give crochet a go too but may try that in my own wool first :o so sad to hear another blanket is needed but happy to knit for both/either

My wool arrived this morning, a lovely green. Thank you Thanks to my donor for sending it.

I'm chickening out of crocheting, but will knit and possibly use my fledgling cable 'skills' Smile

PurplePidjin · 27/02/2012 13:13

Go for it, amy! All skills are good skills Thanks

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 27/02/2012 13:14

wool arrived this morning, a duck egg blue/grey/green, its lovely. Done about 2 inches so far.

tillyfernackerpants · 27/02/2012 13:38

My wool arrived on Saturday, thank you to my lovely donor. Have started now so will hopefully be done by the end of the week!

Deafworm · 27/02/2012 14:19

Ooh good luck with cable Amy thats on my to learn list along with crochet. I thought for anyone new to knitting this may come in handy, I learnt to knit 7 years ago but despite various people trying I have never understood how to cast on properly and have essentially cast on with a series of slip knots Blush this page did it for me, I'm planning to nosey around the rest later but it seemed a useful resource for a new knitter

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/02/2012 14:50

Lunchtime now and yet again, many thanks to everyone for such an amazing response. I have Brew and I am going to work my way through all the PMs I received this morning. Please do bear with me though I have a fair few!

Thanks
Deafworm · 27/02/2012 19:24

Erm my 6 inches seem to be spreading out a bit, how big of a problem is that?

Alambil · 27/02/2012 19:26

Deaf, one of my squares is nearer 6.5/7 inches too Blush

Deafworm · 27/02/2012 19:31

Oh good it's only gone to about 6.5 but I was worrying and figures if it needed pulling apart I'd rather do it at 2 inches instead of further on!

KnottyLocks · 27/02/2012 20:12

Deafworm, 6.5 I can deal with.

Lewis, 7 is more of a challenge Grin
