I've just heard the sad news about Magic8ballhasstheanswers leaving 6mo twins and a 4yo Sad

If anybody would like to show their condolences, post here and we'll organise it. I'll take on construction again unless someone else would like a turn?

IvySedai (who messaged me to let me know) is happy to co-ordinate so PM's from Donors and Crafters needing a match to her please.

Previous squares were 6", knitted or crocheted. Blues, pinks and purples were the most popular colours. Debbie Bliss Cashmerino or Rowan Cashsoft DK (links are just the first ones I found on google) It's also available in John Lewis.

Lastly, was there anything in particular that Magic liked and could be incorporated in the design?

Help! I've followed a pattern for a 6" square for dk wool but it's come out at just about 5" how do I make it bigger?

Off to do a normal less adventurous square :(

DutchOma · 27/08/2011 21:19

Crochet round until it is 6" square.

SongBirdsKeepSinging · 27/08/2011 21:21

I don't know how to crochet

KnottyLocks · 27/08/2011 22:31

Thanks knotty! Just don't want to let Pinot down (she's my donor) and also don't want my squiffy squares to ruin the blankets

skinnymuffin · 27/08/2011 23:57

I was just settling down to do this square

www.box.net/shared/rqklq0zg8l

but noticed is says to use 4.5mm needles. Am I OK to do this on 4mm do you think?

BearGryllsBra · 28/08/2011 13:40

There's some pics on my profile now of my squares so far. Still have one on the go and a bit of wool left so will keep going. The raspberry ball was very kindly sent to me by lia66 and I bought the others from Cucumberpatch and Yarn.

Will get them in the post this week purple, and will be back later today to catch up on the knit and natter. RL beckons. Grrrrr.

purpleknittingmum · 28/08/2011 13:43

I just realised I did the link wrong!

I can do granny squares now so I may do one of those...not sure!!

purpleknittingmum · 28/08/2011 13:57

decided to do a crochet one!

Littlefish · 28/08/2011 15:04

My wool has arrived Smile.

Many thanks to my donor - what lovely colours you've chosen. In case my donor doesn't know who they sent the wool to, it's come from Knit One, Purl One in Melton Mowbray.

Georgimama · 28/08/2011 15:21

first square now complete and photo on profile

Thumbwitch · 28/08/2011 15:23

Ohhh Georgi - that is beautiful! StarStar
Thank you so much. :)

No.1

This is my first square, I am really pleased with it, BUT it is waisted which I didn't intend. Am I right in thinking that this is only because of the 2x2 rib and will be okay once it's attached to its neighbours

AND it's come out at only 5x5", and I, like a previous knitter, don't know how to crochet. I've also never picked up and knit or anything like that, so am a bit scared, if I'm honest.

What shall I do?

Thumbwitch · 28/08/2011 15:34

Meow, I'm sure wiser knitters will come along to reassure you but I'd bet that it will square up no problem when sewn in with the rest.

pinkthechaffinch · 28/08/2011 15:59

Your square has a lovely figure, meow75!

I'm sure it will be fine once sewn up too.

gapants · 28/08/2011 16:07

meow you could try blocking out your square which I have to say has come out lovely.

Instructions here-- blocking

basically you are just trying to iron the thing flat and you can try and get it more to the size it "should be".

purpleknittingmum · 28/08/2011 16:12

I had never blocked anything before I started doing these squares, I follow the instructions from here

knitted squares

and get about an extra inch out when I block! Done 7 rounds on a granny squre, don't think they have quite as much 'give' in them so not too much to do to get it to size!

Meow75isknittinglikemad · 28/08/2011 16:54

pinkthechaffinch

Wish I had such a defined waist. I've started my second one. The pattern is called "Welts", and is essentially the horizontal version of the vertical ribs, I think. I've only done 4 rows, so I'm a bit in the dark for now!!

Back to knitting Meow cracks the whip under her own ass Grin
