I've just heard the sad news about Magic8ballhasstheanswers leaving 6mo twins and a 4yo Sad

If anybody would like to show their condolences, post here and we'll organise it. I'll take on construction again unless someone else would like a turn?

IvySedai (who messaged me to let me know) is happy to co-ordinate so PM's from Donors and Crafters needing a match to her please.

Previous squares were 6", knitted or crocheted. Blues, pinks and purples were the most popular colours. Debbie Bliss Cashmerino or Rowan Cashsoft DK (links are just the first ones I found on google) It's also available in John Lewis.

Lastly, was there anything in particular that Magic liked and could be incorporated in the design?

ivy your footprints one is so pretty, care to share the pattern pretty please?

No wool yet for me. I am on bed rest 32 weeks pregnant- but might send DH to town to see if he can get wool....could be a disaster though

100years · 26/08/2011 14:06

gapants, sorry about the bed rest, hope your hubby gets the right wool for you.

Ah purple, thanks. I'll not worry about doing that. Me and an iron are not the best of friends most times!

SoupDragon · 26/08/2011 14:18

Ironing?!

[faints]

100years · 26/08/2011 14:27

Anyone is welcome to iron mine if they like!! Won't however be me.

Just a slightly off the blanket topic question, what is the cashmerino baby like in comparison to the DK? I have liked using this wool, and might get some for something for my LO, but also might get the baby stuff instead, is it almost the same?

purplepidjin · 26/08/2011 14:33

It's slightly finer, only really noticeable if you put it next to the regular dk. Ditto the chunky being slightly heavier

Muser · 26/08/2011 14:35

I don't normally block stuff, but my square is so curly I feel I should do something to make it easier to sew together!

100years · 26/08/2011 14:38

Thanks purple, I might get some baby stuff for my own blanket.

purplepidjin · 26/08/2011 15:04

I actually find unblocked easier Hmm if you block, the gaps shrink ime

OP posts:
Muser · 26/08/2011 15:11

In that case I shall not block. I hate blocking. Hooray!

BearGryllsBra · 26/08/2011 16:32

My stupid granny squares have come out half an inch bigger than expected, grrrr. I'm going to rip the last round out, then do a dc all the way round as a border, do you experienced crotchety people think this will do the trick? And I won't block them. I might try the next one on a size down crochet hook and see if that does the trick.

I love the wool though, so soft and snugglesome :)

purplepidjin · 26/08/2011 16:40

You don't have to do a border if the measurements are right

Bear, one of my grannys is a bit too big too. I'm going to try the DC edge.

What size hook you using?

BearGryllsBra · 26/08/2011 18:13

No purple, what I meant was I would rip the last granny round out and replace it witha dc edge so it would come out to a 6" hopefully.

Knotty, I'm using a 4mm, what are you using? I measured one of them and it was fine, and then cracked on merrily and by the 4th discovered they'd grown! Will try to rescue them tonight sans wine. Grin

lydiathetattooedlady · 26/08/2011 18:30

ooh cripes... i didnt realize they had to be crocheted (SP) borders...i understand the terms pidj but my crochet isnt great! I can give it a go though!

purplepidjin · 26/08/2011 18:40

Bear, that's what I meant - you can skip the new dc round if it helps

Lydia, it doesn't have to be anything, just thought I'd share what I'd done!

Not been here very much for the last 2 years while, but would like to say what a lovely idea, and go girls. Will see if I can still knit and purl and hope to join you.

So sorry about 8ball. Thinking of the family

lydiathetattooedlady · 26/08/2011 18:58

Sorry i wasnt being rude Blush i just saw on your blanket link they were crocheted edges and thought thats what they had to be. Unfortunately i can start off but then keep slipping in to trying to hold a crochet hook like a knitting needle!

KnottyLocks · 26/08/2011 19:05

Bear, I'm on 4mm too. My three bog standard granny squares are bang on 6". My fancier one with a circle centre is the bigger one. That's what I get when I attempt 'fancy'. Woman, know your limits.

Although I've just done a whole load of flowers and flower/ daisy centres for Pistey's wool, when it arrives. Gawd knows how they'll turn out.

Could be my tape measure. Says I've got a 22" waist too. Wink

BearGryllsBra · 26/08/2011 19:13

at Knotty's tape measure. Grin I've got one like that too, tis s t r e t c h y.

Thanks purple, am sure it will work out in the end with a bit of luck. :)

KnottyLocks · 26/08/2011 19:16

What you saying, Bear Hmm

purplepidjin · 26/08/2011 19:56

You weren't rude, lydia! I'm only dictatorial over wool brands Grin I can't actually knit Blush

[Star] for norma

Knotty, check your texts I just sent you a pic of the completed raffle blanket ignore the unsewn ends I'll do them soon I promise

Hulababy · 26/08/2011 20:24

angelpantser - glad the wool got their safely. Happy knitting!

JemimaMuddledUp · 26/08/2011 20:46

The wool really is lovely.

Now I've posted off my squares I am back to knitting smoothie bottle hats for the Big Knit, for which I am using odds and ends of cheap acrylic DK. It isn't nearly as nice to knit with :(
