Stoned to death for adultery

I saw this in the paper today.

Iranian woman to be stoned to death

She had previously been aquitted of murder but a legal loophole allows the judge to hand down a death sentence for adultery on the basis of his "special knowledge" of the case. She had already been tried and received 99 lashes for the adultery charge.

Noticed this in the guardian article

"Under Iranian sharia law, the sentenced individual is buried up to the neck (or to the waist in the case of men), and those attending the public execution are called upon to throw stones. If the convicted person manages to free themselves from the hole, the death sentence is commuted."

It's as if, having such a barbaric death sentence which I have no doubt is applied disproportionately to women isn't enough, they have to add an extra dimension of sexism even to the execution.

Mind-boggling.

The Iranian embassy are now saying that Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani won't be stoned to death, but she may be hung instead. There are at least 15 (up to 50) people also in line for murdering by stoning: www.stophonourkillings.com/?q=node/4797
