Completely impossible, apparently

If that wasn't so fucking stupid it'd be funny

DuelingFanjo · 01/05/2010 11:19

Seems women just can't get it right whatever they wear, fucking disgusting. The Jury too.

Molesworth · 01/05/2010 11:21

WTF

I don't know what to say to that, I really don't

ABatInBunkFive · 01/05/2010 11:24

When things like this happen you wonder why they even bother to keep rape illegal.

HerBeatitude · 01/05/2010 11:26

I'm also beginning to wonder why they bother to pretend that rape is a crime anywhere.

Is there any country in the world that actually has a reasonable conviction rate and a record of treating it as a real crime?

SethStarkaddersMum · 01/05/2010 11:27

I know, ABat.

Or could someone perhaps do a handy checklist so women know if they've been raped:
'You can't have been raped if:
You are elderly and/or unattractive
You went to his house willingly
He is more famous than you
You were wearing skinny jeans' etc etc. Then we will know, because we get so confused, don't we, and keep wasting everyone's time trying to get convictions for things that simply can't have happened.

Reminds me of an argument I had with my mum who insisted that a prostitute can't be raped . I never did manage to convince her otherwise

thehillsarealive · 01/05/2010 11:42

oh FFS - us women cant get it right, short skirt, we are 'asking' for it, skinny jeans there is no possibility! Is it really 2010? Or are we back in the stone age?

KinderellaTristabelle · 01/05/2010 11:45

That is awful.

Agree HB.

Why bother pretending its a crime when men can rape with impunity.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'd also be interested if anyone knows anywhere its treated as a real crime with a reasonable conviction rate. Or anywhere they have even significantly improved the conviction rate to see what made the difference.

Its sickening.

FFS.

Molesworth · 01/05/2010 12:04

Sorry for the length of this quote, but I think it makes for interesting reading in relation to the question about barriers to successful convictions when it comes to rape. Looking at this list of barriers, it's interesting to see which factors are recognised by different countries. For example, 'victim blame' is only recognised as a barrier by the justice departments of Hungary, Malta and Latvia

It's from a report by Rape Crisis Network Europe.

There are just so many things wrong with that

Of course the assertation that it's impossible to take skinny jeans off without the wearer helping is ridiculous in the first place, but sadder IMO that it's even being asked. So it's not rape if she took her own clothes off, or even loosened them slightly. Of course she must have wanted it then

VengefulKitty · 01/05/2010 12:23

I agree. There are no words

Unbelievable.

whomovedmychocolate · 01/05/2010 19:05

They do realise skinny jeans don't actually form part of one's skin don't they?

That's appalling.

and very, very sad

How does the judge think a mere woman can remove her jeans all by herself? I had no idea that jeans now required two people to take them off.

The judge (and the jury it seems) are a bunch of arses.

TheCrackFox · 01/05/2010 19:33

Perhaps we should all rush out and buy skinny jeans and wear them every single day. They are rape proof .
