Completely impossible, apparently

Pfft, you jest, but that's not that far removed from some of the 'helpful tips' leaflets that do get handed out to 'help' women not get themselves raped.

Passive voice intentionally used there.

HerBeatitude · 03/05/2010 15:52

I was in Gap yesterday and my first thought on seeing the skinny jeans was "better not buy those, if I'm raped wearing them I won't get a conviction"...

Mind you, I wouldn't get a conviction anyway would I.

foureleven · 07/05/2010 09:30

Eurghhh this is so depressing. My dp manages to remove my skinny jeans without any 'collaboration' from me.

foureleven · 07/05/2010 09:31

oops just realised how old this thread is... sorry for relighting it.

Was just cathcing up on the F/W board.

SirBallotAlot · 07/05/2010 09:37

That's utterly disgusting. Am furious and depressed all the same time

CheekyPinkSox · 25/05/2010 12:02

OMG so that means then for women to prevent being raped, they should all wear skinny jeans 24/7

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 25/05/2010 13:39

What a wonderful message to that particular rapist, and to rapists in general. Another category of "unrapeable" women who they can attack at will (along with prostitutes, anyone out at night, anyone who's ever kissed or even flirted with them, anyone wearing anything other than the full binbag).

Not that's it even worth arguing with, but

  1. women frequently manage to remove their own jeans. It is not hard for someone else to do so.

  2. she is skinny. On her, skinny jeans are just "jeans"

  3. lycra has been invented.

Mind you I suspect that even if he'd chewed them off with his teeth, the defense would have just come up with some "oh she likes it rough" claim.

Is there anything we can DO about this?

In Abi Grant's fantastic "Words Can Describe", she relates how her attacker's defence lawyers tried to bully her into saying she often invited pizza boys & delivery men into her flat for sex! This saga of women being blamed for assaults on themselves just runs & runs, doesn't it ...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 25/05/2010 13:52

Thanks for that, Prolesworth! I know we're both veterans of this section (and feminism in general) but still, sometimes, I feel surprised at the sheer vast QUANTITY of shit that goes on. Do you know what I mean?

IGA - that's just what I imagine happens. As I was saying on the big rape law thread, juries seem able to swallow any kind of unlikely scenario. Oh yes, actually women often decide to have rough sex with a total stranger on their way home from a day's work nursing.

I think part of the problem is people say "but he wasn't armed, so he couldn't have made her take them off against her will" - lots of people don't realise that a rapist's body is being used as a weapon.

BlairWaldorfsHairband · 25/05/2010 20:33

Ok, not sure this is the perfect place to post, but didnt want to clutter up the forum, and the first post on this blog is about this topic, so here goes:

A Norwegian friend of mine posted this on facebook with the comment (thanks, Google Translator!) "This must be the biggest idiot I have seen in a very, very long time:"

Unfortunately i know people can write whatever they like on their blog but how can people really think stuff like this? What he has written about the skinny jeans issue is just revolting.

He is obviously a complete sociopath, he's advocating rape and murdering police officers just on that one page. Can't he be arrested for incitement to hatred? When will rape become defined as a hate crime I wonder?
