Dear all

It gives me ENORMOUS pleasure to let you know that early in 2027, Phoenix Publications will be publishing Sarah Summers memoir (called Being a girl and other dangerous things).

@iamsarah has had an extraordinary life and write beautifully.

Please spread the word far and wide and please visit Phoenix Publications Ltd website for updates and news of how to pre-order.

The book is a blinder!

Thanks for letting us know and I will definitely be buying it.

Thank you so much @ProfJoPhoenix! I’ve loved working together on this project and looking forward to my story going out into the world next year (and also slightly terrified).

Mumsnet features in the book and some old timers may recognise the turning point that made me realise how harmful gender ideology is.

I used to be a TRA and was probably one of the most annoying posters on this board so I will always be grateful to the posters who patiently explained why my thinking was flawed. I’m grateful to the less patient ones too 😊

All profits from the book will be going to a local women’s org. Reading my story or sharing it with others will make me so happy.

Was there a particular moment when you changed your mind, or was it a gradual process?

Hedgehogforshort · Yesterday 18:53

You are both stars and have cheered me up on this miserable day re the Sandie judgement.

Encountering a man in my women’s rape crisis meeting was the turning point. Before that I refused to believe that trans ideology was harmful.

The posters on here were kind and nobody said ‘I told you so.’

I'm looking forward to this. Well done Sarah and Jo

solerolover · Yesterday 19:22

Well done to Sarah and Jo, you are both amazing.

TinselAngel · Yesterday 22:19

Will you be coming clean about your previous user names and simultaneous identities, and how you were awful to many women on here, and about many women who don’t post here? Will there be apologies?

In @IamSarah's defence, this is FWR and not an RC confessional.

IamSarah · Yesterday 22:42

I think ‘awful’ is a bit of a stretch Tinsel but if anyone feels that I was awful to them then I apologise.

It’s not a stretch at all and many women feel that. Will you be coming clean about the user names and identities?

MelOfTheRoses · Yesterday 22:56

I would like to know.

Do we have to have struggle sessions here? I'd really rather not.

A request for honesty to the women you are asking to buy your book is hardly a “struggle session”.

murasaki · Yesterday 23:21

I would say that an apology should suffice, shouldn't it? This isn't the medieval stocks.

Hedgehogforshort · Yesterday 23:28

I dunno what i think about this @TinselAngel how bad was it?

Hermiaxx · Yesterday 23:36

Thank you @ProfJoPhoenix & @IamSarah I can’t wait to pre-order!

SistersHeal is also a triumph and you should be so proud of all you have (and continue) to achieve! 💐

TheSlantedOwl · Yesterday 23:37

Amazing, I shall be buying it! 💪

Pretty bad if you’re a long term mumsnetter. Lots of us who have joined the dots have refrained from posting it on here as nobody wants to out a rape victim.

On which topic, how is writing a “what I did in the gender wars” memoir compatible with the need for anonymity due to the vengeful TRA? (I’m assuming the court case anonymity no longer applies?). I could never write a memoir even if I wanted to (I don’t!) because my safety would genuinely be jeopardised.

It was really bad.

Hedgehogforshort · Yesterday 23:58

Thanks @TinselAngel and @DrSpartacularsMagnificentOctopus

I was very late to MN about 2020. I had to go through an education process, but was never a TRA. I took a bit of a kicking, but listened not attacked.

I think it is correct to call @IamSarah out, i i think she owes all of those on here who she hurt the courtesy of a full disclosure for free.

Until that happens i will not be buying the book.

And i take back what i said up thread.

TheSlantedOwl · Today 00:00

I think it’s a bit petty to be complaining about personal slights now. This will be an important publication by someone who has admitted they’ve seen the light and has actively fought for the cause and put themselves in the firing line.

TheSlantedOwl · Today 00:01

And mumsnet has anonymity for a reason. Anyone can name change. Sarah has apologised.

There is a bigger picture here.

potterypieces · Today 00:03

I don’t. Obviously wish you well though, as it does seem that you’ve had a change of heart.
