"WHO DECIDES? is a feature documentary exploring the growing national conversation in Australia surrounding the participation of transgender women in female-only spaces, alongside broader questions relating to education, healthcare and public policy.

As these issues increasingly move from sporting fields and schools into courtrooms, government inquiries and parliamentary debate, the film looks beyond the headlines to examine how competing rights, public policy and lived experience intersect. Through interviews with people holding a range of perspectives, alongside those directly affected, experts, advocates, journalists, legal professionals and policymakers, WHO DECIDES? seeks to foster a thoughtful exploration of one of Australia's most contested public conversations."

Look that's fine I have no issues with anyone promoting their view however disagreeable but don't pretend its balanced & then have the full cast of sky channel agit prop right wing pundits as the over arching view point. Its false advertising.

Neither of us has seen the documentary but the trailer was unbiased afaics - I suppose I could have done a click-survey. Best advice, Fairgo, just put 'bump' next time you want to bump something on here.

Its working fine. I don't need a fringe irrational echo chamber for validation.

You seem bothered tho, reality as in the real world bites….

Nah mate. Just pointing out that it really must bother you because you yelled it at us.

Again, more projection than a Hoyts multiplex though. You must be keeping Sydney lit up tonight.

Helleofabore · Yesterday 11:20

Because I assume there are more hoyts in Sydney than anywhere else. Maybe the North Shore is a good indicator. I mean, Macquarie is the home of the Flying Bats. And Macquarie Centre could do with a Hoyts cinema in competition to Events.

Helleofabore · Yesterday 11:27

But Sky Australia has Labour Party panelists and commentators as well if I remember correctly.

So, are those panelists part of your “full cast of sky channel agit prop right wing pundits”.

Helleofabore · Yesterday 11:57

I wonder if the reason there is mostly men in the trailer is that the makers knew that men aren’t necessarily going to attract the abuse and death threats that Sal and Kirrilie have.

HenriettaSwanLeavitt2 · Yesterday 11:59

When the conversation is finally allowed, public opinion always shifts towards women's rights. Australia's experiment with regressive gender ideology is doomed. Even Gillard is trying to wash her hands of it.

You haven't even seen it yet!!!
You can't pronounce it unbalanced before you do, if it is then you'll be able to point to whatever they said as proof that it's unbalanced but slagging it off beforehand just shows how unbalanced you are.

There’s a bit of confusion at the moment about new builds because it appears Canberra has stated 50% of toilets should be unisex. That will be a huge social experiment because self contained, private toilets aren’t as safe or healthy as standard designs of separate sex toilet washrooms.

I scanned over the Australian documents and there’s no realisation on the impact of how design affects the cost, cleanliness, number of pathogens, drug use and overdoses, vandalism, survival rate if someone collapses or sexual or other assault rate, closure rate due to misuse.

Do 'unisex toilets' mean the same thing in UK and Australia? Here, UK, we understand that term to mean completely enclosed, single-occupancy rooms which include washing facilities and sanitary disposal of period products. In Australia, does unisex toilets mean that, or does it mean a different door sign on the usual communal facilities?

Australia, Ipsos Pride Report 2026:

Transgender people should be allowed to use single -sex facilities (e.g., public restrooms) that correspond to the gender they identify with
Down from 53% in 2023 to 43% in 2026

Transgender athletes competing based on the gender they identify with rather than the sex they were assigned at birth
Down from 27% in 2021 to 21% in 2026

Oh, it is OK to make this film after all? And to watch it? Phew, what a relief. Thought we'd failed our accreditation as GENUINE FEMINISTS.

By the way, what's your evidence that the overarching view point is not mainstream? Or is not held by the majority of people who actually understand the terminology and the effect of dliuting the meaning of the word 'woman'?

Fairgo · Yesterday 07:47

Well they already have in Europe, Scandinavia, Canada, Asia, half of the US states & Australia with their not giving a shit energy.

No grass roots, no change.

Must feel good, as a "genuine feminist" to come on to a feminist discussion board and tell us we are not paying enough attention to the "real issues" such as male violence against women, while proudly supporting an ideology that puts child rapists and sex offenders right into prison cells with women. Fairgo for those men huh?
You sound really angry. Why? What's wrong with an open debate? If you're so sure people won't care.
And yes, there are "special provisions" in the sex discrimination act for women to exclude men from female only events, they say, on paper... the same ones the Lesbian Action Group unsuccessfully tried to access over 3 years in court, which the Australian Office of Human Rights argued against them having (hurts mens feelings, see?) And the same ones Sal Grover also attempted to access, again unsuccessfully... so, not very effective are they?

I believe one poster recently told you that they would not interact with you again. So I guess if that is the case, they will ignore you no matter what name they are posting under.

We all appreciate your posts regardless of who answers.

Oh yes, I am up for listening to counter arguments but they haven’t got any. The Australian government, the GLP, Watershed, Robin Moira White and ‘inclusive’ designers such as Susan Stryker all end up putting us in floor to ceiling toilet individual cubicles/rooms within a mixed sex environment. Sometimes the sinks and dryers are outside the toilet compartment, sometimes not.

I want safe toilet designs. The absolute irony of it all is the design the Australian government seem to be introducing as a way to make things ‘inclusive’ is the design (enclosed, unisex) that I can find where a transwoman was - allegedly - raped. This incident took me ages to find compared very large numbers of woman and girls that are attacked in toilets by men that verifiably lead to convictions. I had to search internationally and the incident sounded distressing but I believe it never went to court so not ‘proven’. I am looking out for everyone and want to be completely honest about data.

As in the UK.

Actual experience of it rapidly starts to prove the problems with it.

And at that point shouting a lot of random stuff that's about trying to silence women and cover up the problems just shows the issues even more clearly.

The point is the 100% is only 0.5% of the population. And for those very bad at maths means they barely exist.

Are you saying that trans people don't exist? HEY, THIS PERSON IS SAYING THAT TRANS PEOPLE DON'T EXIST!
Are you a transphobe or something? Denying the reality of tranpeople?
Shame on you 😂

As apposed to the TRA's scaremongering tactic of
SHOUTING 'literal genocide' when anyone questions the sense of GI.
Or SHOUTING for the 'decapitation' of women who dare speak up for themselves.

Or SHOUTING NAZI at anyone who mentions the reality that men can't be women.
Or SHOUTING about 'thousands of trans committing suicide' because they feelz unsafe.

The youngest generation aren't buying the crap, and are looking at the generations before who have as if they've all got a screw loose.

True, I'm very proud of my kids who have rightly identified the whole lot as "weirdos seeking attention"

Here, UK, we understand that term to mean completely enclosed, single-occupancy rooms which include washing facilities and sanitary disposal of period products. Really good question.

Australia has the NCC which regulates female, male and unisex toilets. The unisex ones are the accessible (disabled) ones. In contrast, in this country we have regulated universal (unisex) toilet design as well and this can be an ambulant or non-ambulant version. Then we have accessible design. Our main provision has to be separate sex toilets which can be ambulant or non- ambulant versions.

The planners are looking at regulations for a universal design though it may be called all-gender? It is a bit arbitrary really if woman and man have no definition.

Australia does use the same internationally recognised pictogram that have specific definitions for male and female facilities. Presumably ‘male’ and ‘female’ are questionable definitions in pictograms as well as buildings laws, regulations and standards.

Heres an easy to read article which explains it a bit more:
https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/news-life/serving-all-users-half-of-new-public-toilets-in-australia-could-become-gender-neutral/news-story/337269c9fe455cc1433589a1591b2e6f?amp

The actual documents from committees I have seen discuss the all gender toilets as being enclosed and private like the universal design we have here. I can try and find them again if you want to take a look. It would be a very bold move for them not to be private considering dignity and discomfort, and the voyeurism opportunities.

You can tell from the promo this is a heavily biased video masquerading as 'just asking questions' given that 99% of the clips are pushing an anti trans narrative.

Looks like the latest desperate attempt to get a grass roots anti trans movement going in Australia where none exists despite their many well funded media campaigns to do so. It will be forever a lost cause in Australia as we don't have the same anti egalitarian cultural influences as the UK does.

"anti egalitarian" lol

Because as a GENUINE FEMINIST I'm not stupid enough to fall for a manufactured astro turfed moral panic designed to enable the ascension of right wing governments who give buggar all about women's rights.

As for women's rights what rights? There are no rights at risk given special exemptions exist for natal women under the anti discrimination act.

And what's absolutely galling is how this manufactured top down grievance that involves 0.5% of trans women has centred itself as the women's right's calamity of our time that effectively silences via its media saturation REAL problems like the epidemic level of domestic & sexual violence women face in this country.

So don't think for one second the women of Australia are going to give this colonialist victorian clap trap a second thought because we live in the real world where trans people are the least of our problems hence ZERO interest in this beat up at the grass roots level regardless of the political funding.

"colonialist Victorian" another post modern take that biological facts are dogma imposed by white authoritarians.
Yep, had Australia not been an outpost of the British empire, trans rights would have been settled a century or more ago, lol.

Ipsos is now anti-trans?

Ok.

It seems now that we are at the point of nothing will be acceptable as evidence because it doesn’t agree with what a poster believes and therefore everyone is manipulated by Rupert and is anti-trans.

Good to know the level of engagement.
