Taskmaster: if you don’t use ‘correct’ pronouns you’re a philistine…

…Who’s stuck in the past. To be ‘cool and curious’ you need to use non- biological sex based pronouns. And this is about a ‘certain generation.’ I mean I’m 32 and think it’s bollocks.

plus, as a bonus, ‘if you don’t like me, fine, as long as you use my correct pronouns.’

ffs

Traditionally, but things have moved on somewhat since the 1960's.

Truth is truth no matter the decade: sex is biological - male/man and female/woman. Gender identity = lies, delusions and deceit.

If you go to "View history" on Chloe's Wikipedia article and then click on "oldest" it will show you that the page was created in 2024 by a user called Funcrunch. If you click on Funcrunch it takes you to their user page, which gives you a link to their personal website. Click on the link and it says in big letters that they (Funcrunch) are trans and use they/them pronouns. The first version of the page said that Chloe uses she/her and they/them pronouns but the page was actually written using "she". At a subsequent stage someone has changed "she" to "they" which I find makes it less easy to read.

Hmmmm - very interesting to know, thanks.

I seem to recall noticing something similar in the past with Lawrence Chaney (drag queen) - and looking again now, his Wikipedia page says 'they' throughout, yet on his own website, he uses 'he'.

Surely... there couldn't be some kind of agenda... could there?!

Words become established meaning by broad usage so its just the opposite of an imposition. In other words, the more people use a word the more it becomes popular meaning & given the younger generation dictate the future evolution of language, gender pronouns are here for now. Not to mention the arc of history bends towards liberalism & by extension self determination.

There isn’t broad usage outside circles where performing gendered beliefs is compulsory.

If there is no member of pronoun police present people use sex based pronouns. People use sex based pronouns talking to their small children, it’s how people use English.

Asking people to consciously over ride this natural established language use is NOT how language evolves. It doesn’t stick if it is coerced and imposed by an ideology.

MostlyPeaceful · Yesterday 13:49

sweetnsourr · Yesterday 10:45

The point is language can change it isn't as fixed as you presume it to be.

That may be true but in reality language changes naturally over a long period of time if accepted by the vast majority of citizens. The gendernutters like to force new words and interpretations on people on pain of being called nasty names and insults, or cancelled. For example, "cis" has been created to go alongside "trans" so "cis woman" and "trans woman" both being a type of woman, apparently Hmm. Load of bollocks, literally Grin. Women CANNOT be transwomen, you have to be a man/male in order to qualify for so called transwoman status.

Pingponghavoc · Yesterday 13:59

The idea that the 'younger generations' are leading this change of language is naive.

Children arent making TV programmes introducing the concept of queer theory adults are. Children are learning queer theory through TV produced by adults, adults arent responding to children's ideas of sex and gender.

Children grow up with CBBC shows about queer theories, then doctor who. By the time they get to watch taskmaster, they understand the adults ideas that concealing sex is normal.

But we're supposed to pretend that the makers are responding to children view of the world?

elgreco · Yesterday 14:10

I think she's quite funny, but the they/ themming is irritating. Also describing herself as a Lesbian makes no sense if she doesn't think she is a woman!

Is this the thread police 🤣 and are you this fun in person?

You can't self determine your way out of being male or female.

'They' has long been used as an indefinite pronoun, but is confusing when used to refer to a particular singular person, so I don't think it's going to take off as a replacement for he and she.

It also has the unfortunate effect of implying that everyone who is referred to as 'she' is identifying with gendered expectations, so it's not progressive and it's questionable whether it is polite.

I think most people are prepared to respect other people's beliefs up to a point, and this falls into that category.

Was it she or the OP that used the term 'Philistine' I wonder?

Her, and it does seem to be a case of “I don’t think that word means what you think it means”.

This is the funniest thing I have read in ages.

From someone who has not listened and appears to never learn a thing!

I'm sorry your life is so dull, that you think 'just be tolerant, and learn about difference' is funny 😁

I've learned no transphobia at all, true.

Being hostile to difference, attempting to justify it by inventing bizarre conspiracy theories - then reading similarly ignorant people's conspiracy theories - isn't scholarship. It's literally just bigots trying to prove themselves right.

Her, and it does seem to be a case of “I don’t think that word means what you think it means”.

The whole Preferred Pronouns, TWAW/TMAM thing is entirely a case of “I don’t think that word means what you think it means”.

Trans people decide that the words that simply meant sex actually refer to personalities, which they don't, insist that everyone else has to agree these personal and frankly totally sexist ideas about Man and Woman personalities are an real actual thing, and then get all distressed/angry/sad about being called the "wrong" one even though they are the only people that think these words have to mean anything other than sex in the first place.

It is such a total, utter effort in pointlessness. All they ever needed to do was pick new names to label the "things we feel strongly about ourselves that aren't just our body sex" and there would never have been a need for any of the anger, and fear, and court cases, and threats, and protests, and divisions. Just - heartbreakingly self-defeating and pointless.

Still gender is bollocks, sex is binary and immutable and males can’t enter female spaces in the UK. This may make you sad, but have you tried reframing your trauma?

There are numerous very well argued and presented posts - all of which have been waved away and dimissed as people "not being welcoming of diversity".

In resorting to name calling you are demeaning your own position.Name calling as a substitute for reasoned argument is the province of those with nothing more to present than abuse. Furthermore continually reaching for the word 'bigot' is against the rules of the forum. it represents an ad hominem attack and adds nothing to discussion. It doesn't really deter anyone from their position, either.

Nobody here is scared of 'diversity' what they object to it totalitarian control.

I want to learn about difference.

Given that trans people are living proof that sex and gender are different, explain to me why the words that have always referred to sex are a good choice to label gender instead.

Explain the connection between the female (or male) body, and a transwoman (or transman)'s feelings of gender, and maybe this will finally explain why, beyond what so far seems to be nothing more than a simple coincidence of naming, feelings of gender are at all relevant when it comes to accessing provisions that were set up based on sex.

Explain to me why humanity does not need any language to understand, speak about or legislate for sex.

These are surely, for someone as convinced and confident as you, simple questions. Should you answer them calmly and coherently I will consider your answers with an open mind and reply with my own assessment and potentially my own challenges in turn. Because this is how both of us learn and grow.

If you avoid answering by throwing shade or accusations of hate, bigotry or lack of intelligence, I will consider your choice not to give a straight answer is evidence that you are simply unable to, because no such answers exist.

What’s ignorant is the assumption that people don’t use supposedly ‘correct’ pronouns because they are too old to understand, rather than they understand perfectly well and actively reject them.

Also not knowing what ‘philistine’ means.

Sorry, I have better things to do than argue with you. Just glancing at this while leaving. Got sandwiches to microwave, stuff to build.

But: just because you don't understand what being trans involves, doesn't mean you can't respect difference. Trans people exist, and being polite to them costs absolutely nothing.

Respecting someone's pronouns may be unfamiliar, so what? I don't know what it's like to know you're gay, but don't insist gay people.describe to me how it feels, let alone argue their life experience isn't valid. Trans people are just trans. Have a good Sunday.

LOL. Not enough time to justify the hate you throw at people who do not share your sexist beliefs with any sort of well reasoned arguments, but always enough time to scold a tiny bit more. Transparent indeed.

Restating the last paragraph of my questions to TPA that TPA is dodging away from:

A classic example of someone telling you they are precious and self-absorbed: believe them. Gen A has now labelled this behaviour as "cringe", so it will die a death in the next couple of years.

Best news I’ve heard all day 👏

I haven't waded through all the pages but what a shame.

I saw Chloe on taskmaster with her woman's name, talking about being a lesbian and wearing what the fuck she wants and assumed she was just someone comfortable in her masculine aesthetic who didn't need to label herself as anything.

Nope.
Still very funny but also still a woman despite her pronouns. Shame she had to be a superior tit about people who don't share her world view.

MarcTheGenderSkeptic · Yesterday 17:59

She/he/it/they have just reminded me why I'll never bother checking out her/his/it's/their act.

FlirtsWithRhinos · Yesterday 18:31

If she's the person I think she is, she is funny. I can even laugh at her Genderist jokes against GC Feminists despite disagreeing with her about the underlying sexism her position requires.

Like so many Genderists especially young ones, I think she's actually coming from a position of wanting to demolish gender stereotypes, she's just been mislead into thinking making sex-aligned gender stereotypes into some sort of big-G Gender that is real but mixed sex is a more effective way to do it that just, y'know, recognising sex but challenging the sterotypes.

Gay people make no exceptional demands on anyone else, nor make claims about themselves which defy common understanding or knowledge.

If you've got better things to do than discuss a topic then why are you posting on a discussion forum and on a specific thread dedicated to such a topic?

and strange as it would be to put your DH or DW into your phone contacts with his/her full name, including surname.

Um, I actually do this. I knew two other [Insert Firstname ]'s when I first met DP, so she went in with her full name. 20 years later she's still in there as a full name. Worse still one of the other [Insert Firstname ]'s (the first one added to my addressbook) is a firstname only.

Maybe I should rectify that before DP notices.

I do this too but because it bothers me when the contact names are inconsistent. I have made up last names for people who I want to save as contacts but it would be weird to ask their surname.
It may be strange, but I'm sticking with it.
