TT summary:

Dr Redvers, a named GP safeguarding lead, has a constructive dismissal case. Clinical concerns were raised about a specific doctor at WellBN, a Brighton GP practice. She claims that as a result of escalating those claims from 2020 onwards, she was constructively dismissed.

Her legal claim is discrimination on the grounds of her employer’s perception she had gender critical beliefs and on the grounds of her protected belief in evidence-based medicine (EBM). The respondent defends the latter claim by pleading that EBM is just an opinion.

Just watched it. Seems fair by usual BBC standards. Explained that Hall is a 'trans man, so born female'. Reporter was Alison Holt, BBC social affairs editor, who I think most FWR women agree has generally been pretty good.

I've been following Alison Holt's work in this area for a while and generally it's been at a different level to what's gone on before at the BBC.

I wondered about her background and found this:

She is very well placed to be looking into the current scandal around gender identity and "trans healthcare" for children.

In this case and SP’s holding the corporate body and named individuals personally to account brings the decision making process to the forefront of the proceedings. Those named individuals then seem to have no problem naming/blaming/shaming others including secretarial staff to shift and share the blame. What happened to honourably sticking your hand up and saying ‘ it was me/us gov, I/we made a mistake’, how do we put it right’?
They thought, I surmise, being management etc of big organisation with extensive HR and legal advice and seemingly limitless public funds it would provide anonymity and protection from accountability. Those brave enough to challenge this unlawful ideology/medical treatment of minors too often saw their careers trashed on the alter of unlawful practices these organisations championed. Top management would be foolish not to acknowledge they may be named and individually held accountable in the future. More cases to come I think.

Public Service Head Honchos seem to have forgotten the age old mantra that the buck stops with the person at the top.

Very interesting thank you.
Ties in nicely with JKR's Orwell reference.

The law and facts all bend in one direction, towards a good Dr

I thought this was a great closing statement acknowledgement of a great Dr.

We salute you Dr Sarah Redbers, another legend in the battle for medical reality.

ItsCoolForCats · 23/10/2026 20:39

I haven't been able to follow this case closely, but I saw the report on BBC News earlier, and I thought it was well done.

That, and hearing Prof Sallie Baxendale on BBC R4's Inside Science, gives me hope that the BBC is turning things around.

borntobequiet · 23/10/2026 21:06

Well well. The worm is turning.

Good on Alison Holt, working at the BBC must be/have been difficult for her.

nauticant · 23/10/2026 21:15

My assumption would be that she'll have been working with a disproportionate amount of colleagues who are parents with trans-identifying children.

ThreeNewWords · 23/10/2026 21:35

What was lovely about the report was that it was just so normal and ordinary and non-performative. It's like when a noisy machine gets turned off: it's only when you suddenly notice the pure lovely silence that you realise how stressful its drone had been.

lcakethereforeIam · 23/10/2026 21:39

I missed it! It's probably on catch up somewhere. I admit I've been disappointed by the lack of coverage this ET had been getting. It was just a local rag, it seemed, that had published anything about it. I'm pretty gobsmacked that the Beeb has reported on it!!

HydrangeaFig · 23/10/2026 21:46

I read the BBC article. Number eight in list of most read articles on the website. It quotes NHS Sussex saying " We engaged professionally and supportively with the Employment Tribunal." Well if a respondent doesn't engage with a tribunal they are likely to lose the case (although it is not inevitable). By the way, I may not share Dr Redvers belief in EBM, but I wish her well. I am still a bit lost in all the grievances and investigations.

Turns out education and social affairs are being combined. No-one seems to know which editor is getting axed/moved elsewhere.

Fears over lack of scrutiny for key sectors as health editor position also to go in cuts aimed at saving £5.5m

Well, if Alison Holt is unlucky enough to be caught up in the cuts, looking to move elsewhere with a track record of holding to journalistic standards would be better than someone seeing where they can go by showing how they worked hard to uphold ideological adherence.

I am unsure what you mean by “i may not share DR R belief in EBM”

Can you explain please.

On again now on the 10 o clock news.

Pleased to see this still on the BBC news and a pleasing change to their previous "trans sacred caste that can never be challenged" approach.

Small steps but so important - especially when reporting on child abuse.

Wellbn is just on border of Brighton and Hove. I am a heterosexual patient there. I have been following this thread. Am gobsmacked

This practice has caused issues for local mental health services, as patients register there even though they live miles away, because the GP practice are pro-trans and prescribe hormone therapy. Then as they're registered with a Brighton GP, any other mental health issues they might have need to be treated by local MH services despite them not living in the area.

impossibletoday · 23/10/2026 21:00

I rather enjoyed this bit:

Although Doyle at first denied to the tribunal he knew Hall before this, it emerged during the tribunal that he had previously had a number of mentoring meetings with the GP.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Just dropping an archived BBC article in case anyone sanitises it.

I think often these cases are better reported on substantially once concluded.

Not everyone follows the live courtroom dramas!

And reading that balanced, factual, and thorough BBC report is ... astonishing.

The bare facts laid out are thoroughly informative.

The case laid out so clearly in this BBC article is to me, staggering. In a good way!

nauticant · 23/10/2026 23:05

I realise it's a positive but we're looking at a BBC report and marvelling that it's a reasonably decent attempt to give a factually correct account of a court case. Because we'd become so used to the BBC spreading disinformation in order to mislead the public when the truth would be ideologically inconvenient.
