Go & ask them. I'm sure they will be keen as mustard to discuss high brow literature with the GC 'sEx iS rEal' mental giants.

Aren't TRAs cute when they play "pretend we think people are saying something that they so obviously aren't"? Bless their earnest naive little hearts ❤ they care so much but just always get it so wrong 😂 😍 🤗

"Oh, if we're going to conduct an unforgiving forensic examination of Rowling's movement, I suspect we can do considerably better than her failure to disavow every vile and abusive man who happens to share her contempt for anything remotely resembling "woke". There is a perfectly legitimate criticism buried in your observation, although I'd approach it differently. Our Most Blessed of Joannes is frequently moved to righteous indignation by the treatment of women in Iran and Afghanistan. Yet her public advocacy seems considerably less animated by the suffering of women in Palestine, Saudi Arabia and numerous other countries where women endure appalling violence, coercion and discrimination. Forced marriage, FGM, honour killings and religious fanaticism present ample opportunities for someone professing such an uncompromising commitment to women's liberation. One might reasonably ask what determines the geographical boundaries of her compassion. However, this brings me back to my original point, which is that Rowling has unquestionably done genuine good with her considerable wealth. Through charitable giving, funding organisations and establishing services for survivors of sexual violence, she has made material contributions to the welfare of women whose lives have been devastated by abuse. That is a matter of record. It would be intellectually dishonest to pretend otherwise simply because I find much of her contemporary political commentary objectionable. But we must distinguish between the good Rowling can accomplish with her money and the intellectual authority she apparently believes that money confers upon her. And that raises an interesting question. Take away the billions, and what exactly qualifies Rowling as one of the great intellectual authorities on women's rights? She is an immensely successful children's author. An extraordinary commercial phenomenon. She created a fictional universe that captivated generations of readers and generated a merchandising empire of almost unimaginable proportions. Good for her. But she is hardly the intellectual or literary equivalent of Jane Austen, Mary Shelley or the Brontës. Nor would I put her alongside Maya Angelou, Audre Lorde or Alice Walker. Even within speculative fiction, I'd struggle to place her in the company of Ursula K. Le Guin or Margaret Atwood. These are, naturally, literary judgements, and others are welcome to disagree. What interests me is the extraordinary tendency to confuse the financial rewards of creative success with evidence of superior intelligence, analytical ability or moral insight. Commercial success is an astonishingly unreliable measure of artistic merit. Talent matters, certainly, but timing, circumstance, marketing and sheer dumb luck play enormous roles in determining who becomes wealthy and who remains obscure. If box-office receipts were a reliable indication of cultural and intellectual importance, we'd be canonising Fast & Furious alongside the works of Henry James, Ernest Hemingway and James Joyce. Vin Diesel would be pulling up outside Trinity College Dublin to deliver the annual lecture on modernist literature. 1/2

There is nothing inherently wrong with writing entertaining books for children. The Harry Potter novels have genuine imaginative qualities, and their contribution to popular reading culture is considerable. But writing an enormously successful fantasy series does not magically endow its creator with the intellectual equipment of a political philosopher, social historian, legal scholar or feminist theorist. And this, ultimately, is what I find so revealing about her latest essay. She has written herself into the grand narrative of women's emancipation, apparently convinced that she occupies a position of historical significance comparable to the great figures whose intellectual and political achievements helped transform society. Yet virtually every practical advantage she brings to this struggle derives from the colossal fortune generated by a series of children's books. That fortune can finance lawyers, establish charities, support survivors and change lives. Those contributions deserve to be judged on their actual merits. What it cannot purchase is intellectual authority. And it certainly cannot transform a billionaire's personal convictions into incontrovertible truths merely because she has the means to broadcast them to millions. Rowling's money gives her an extraordinarily powerful voice. The tragedy is how increasingly little intellectual discipline she appears to exercise when using it. 2/2"

Oh that's hilarious. Five minutes ago she was too powerful to be listened to, now she's not a good enough writer! 🤣🤣

I've said it before, this ideology is a litmus test for fucking idiocy.

My main surprise is quite how many idiots there are. Way more than I ever thought.

Of course they aren't. They aren't 'rich' enough.

There's only one case where a writer being rich matters to me - her first name is Adrienne.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/10/2026 00:17

The reason JKR is so rich is because she never has to pay for the accommodation she has in so many heads.

MarcTheGenderSkeptic · 24/10/2026 00:18

There's absolutely zero chance that TRAs would consider the likes of a mega rich Stephen King as unqualified to be a trans ally if he spent as much time supporting their side.
I don't hear anyone from the Omnicause decrying Sally Rooney as too chick lit mainstream to support them, that she's too rich or too mediocre, not intellectual enough.
There's only one thing worse than a TRA, and that's a TRA snob.

All these sad little pompous men vying for each other's attention in their takedowns of her. All these sad little insecure men re-tweeting the posts. All of them trying to make a buck on X, furious that she is so untouchably wealthy.

Men, and their fragile egos.🙄

I agree, there's a whiff of the 'woman preaching/dog walking on hind legs' about the put-downs, isn't there?

Absolutely. A touch of panic too, though. Can't quite put my finger on it, but there is desperation there.

It's the barrel scraping.

It's bad enough that she supports women. But the unimaginable wealth, the articulation, eloquence and her wild, global popularity means they've really got fuck all to work with.

So the desperate invention of risible jibber jabber really sticks out a mile

MarcTheGenderSkeptic · 24/10/2026 00:32

Another excellent thread.
Another TRA who won't engage with the arguments.
Blaming the messenger now, not just the message.
With a side order of hackles raised prickliness that such a mediocre woman as Rowling has the temerity to speak up.
Much male rage lurks in this one, methinks.
At the end, more evidence that the ideology is empty, can't counter arguments against it, resorts to rage and misogyny and now good old fashioned snobbishness because there's nothing in the locker. With that side order of hate.
If we're arguing about intellectuals being the only ones who should be gatekeepers, then my only Q is, where the fuck are they?
Because as a class, they're a dead loss, happier to maintain the ideological heat, or too cowardly to speak out to try and lower that heat.
All I know is I wouldn't want to have to rely on Margaret Atwood or Stephen King for anything, so pointless has been the voice they could have had in support of women and basic reality.

Yes, that's it. Barrel scrapping. It's almost as if they are embarrased to be writing such weak, pretentious guff. "Sorry this is crap folks, but it's the best I can do, and tbh I am beginning to wonder if we are the baddies after all".

I don't think JKR would suggest that any of her arguments on this issue are original.

No, indeed.

Women are female humans. Humans cannot change sex. One cannot acquire another sex. Women need some single-sex protections because some men are dangerous. Men who think they've acquired a different sex are no less dangerous than other men, so the need for protections still applies.

Some women, who live in relatively great safety, don't understand the need for single-sex protections. Many influential organisations, which tend to be male-led, don't care about women's protections.

All common knowledge and has been for a long time. No-one could reasonably think JKR claims originality.

The world according to MarcTheCognitiveDissonanceDude.

You can call me anything you like, although I hope you mean dude as in The Big Lebowski. Because he'd have no time for your triggered prickliness.
One bit of advice, I'm sure you can take it after trying to mix it here, you've gotta use your insults more sparingly.
Spraying around the "cognitive dissonance" label to all and sundry makes you look totally inept.
Try a bit of subtlety and variation, that goes down well here.
This is not your little Trans R/eddit universe where you all get off on immature collective snark.
And as I've said to you before, to accuse sex realists of cognitive dissonance while you tell us Dr. Upton's hormone induced boobies are genuine female secondary sex characteristics is gaslighting on such a scale it's a good thing Burnham has opened up that gas field in the N. Sea.
But the biggest thing I learn about you is what a snob you are re Rowling. It's a really unappealing characteristic, you might want to address it.

True, but so many bands had weird names back then - The BonzoDoDoDahBand, TheVelvetUnderground, TheElectricPrunes - that MarcTheCognitiveDissonanceDude didn't really stand out.

The fun thing about MarcTheCognitiveDissonanceDude was that they weren't in fact one dude, there were actually 8 of them on stage!

Who wrote that piece about JKR, CoolforKats?
It's odd to post random unattributed writing - source, please!

It is interesting to see how the 'JKR is evil' vibe is being toned down to well, granted, she writes good children's books, and granted they are hugely popular and granted she had donated millions to good causes and so on..
but she doesn't have the
the intellectual equipment of a political philosopher, social historian, legal scholar or feminist theorist
and [trigger warning, as this will come as a huge shock to everybody!]
she is hardly the intellectual or literary equivalent of Jane Austen, Mary Shelley or the Brontës... Maya Angelou, Audre Lorde or Alice Walker.

There aren't you glad I warned you? because up to now, until our eyes were opened by this writer, every one of us admirers of JKR believed that she absolutely and undeniably is
the intellectual or literary equivalent of Jane Austen, Mary Shelley or the Brontës... Maya Angelou, Audre Lorde or Alice Walker
as well as a political philosopher, social historian, legal scholar and feminist theorist!

I just hope JKR never reads this, it would completely crush her to learn that she is not, as she [apparently] claims to be, the the intellectual or literary equivalent of Jane Austen, Mary Shelley or the Brontës... Maya Angelou, Audre Lorde or Alice Walker.

Isn't it the rather affected person referred to in a post at 15.55 yesterday?
