'Parkrun HQ apologised for the removal and censoring of our club name in the photos. We appreciate Parkrun’s apology and the reinstatement of the uncensored pictures on the event’s Facebook page.'

I thought Parkrun had moved on from the twaw nonsense. Was it a rogue photo editor?

What guidance did they say they misinterpreted? Were all t shirts blocked out?

Wow, that's a spiteful thing to do, kudos to Parkrun though for apologising, I'd like to think the person/s responsible were given a talk on 'inclusiveness' and possibly sent for some 're-educating'.

I hope they have a great run today, and smash some records, even though that's not what Parkrun is all about. 😜

Indeed!

Did the word 'beclowning' exist before all this nonsense, or was it made up to describe this kind of thing?🙄
But fair play to Parkrun for the apology.

I'm afraid I don't have any more info than that blog post.

comment on FB is amusing, though:

Is the first rule of parkrun that you do not talk about parkrun?

It looks a bit unhinged, doesn't it, scribbling over something in photos, like cutting out the face of a hated sibling in the family album or something😬
And of course, there's nothing like scribbling something out to make people desperate to know what has been scribbled out, so this is 'Operation Let Them Scribble Out'😄

It’s certainly come into its own, at the very least!

Sort of thing they do to pictures if you take magazines to places like Saudi.

I saw a YouTube short, summarising a film I cba to watch in full. An actress had a fuzzy oval superimposed over her cleavage. I think it was a choice to hide the short from the copyright detectives. Although I was concerned it was so it could be monetised in Islamic countries. Was a weird choice, made it look like she'd had her tits out.

I recall forty years ago a colleague of mine reporting that when he entered Saudi he had a copy of the Guardian which they allowed him to keep after going through the paper with an inky roller redacting all female photos even as he related the Queen!

I wonder if they managed to find more than a handful of people willing to run for them this week. More than half of their run club members don't seem to have actually existed.

Helleofabore · 10/10/2026 15:33

It only takes one or a couple in each parkrun, the message will grow.

This focus on numbers doesn’t diminish the message. The law has been stated that anything that segregates by sex needs to be segregated by sex, and words that some people have acquired to also mean the opposite have been clarified by the law.

If true! then that makes Parkruns attempt at censoring them even more pathetic. If they only make up 0.05% of the runners then they're the most marginalised in the park, they should be supported, included and validated. Bring them in from margins I say.

I don't even think it's issue-based censorship. Parkrun's social media guidelines require the removal of political messaging. And it's not even that much. There were something like 246ish from memory actual runners on the big first week - from the goal of thousands. I'll be genuinely interested to see if they manage to grow that number - or whether that's about all they can manage.

ArabellaScott · 10/10/2026 17:36

Over 600 members. So that's nice. But as Helle says, it's not just about numbers.

Nobody is jeering at other running groups for the number of people joining them!

So... that is a rather large increase in one week. Brilliant stuff considering it is parkrun meaning it is not going to be everyone's choice to run with people on a Saturday. Great stuff.

Ah but they are not the right type of marginalised group!

GreenwayHouse · 10/10/2026 23:40

There are 606 members now. Not everyone has been able to run for various reasons - childcare, injury, being away, having to work etc etc.

Some people have said (on here and in other forums) that they would like to sign up but are worried of being ‘outed’, mainly because of their jobs. Which is really sad but also understandable. I was targeted once at a place at which I volunteer by some nutters but I have decided to sign up. We do all need to start speaking up against this insanity. It’s the only way it will end. But it’s sad if people are afraid to and it means the bullies have won.

For a campaign that is apparently so pointless and ineffectual, it sure does attract a lot of people sneering and trying to belittle it on social media and the same handful of people on here. You’d think it wouldn’t be worth their time if it’s so pointless! Cue Alcovecupboards in 3…2…1…

Igmum · 11/10/2026 19:16

Well done Park Run, good apology. It’s almost as though they don’t want to be sued.

IzzyLeng · 11/10/2026 19:40

Parkrun are no fan of women. This weekend at my local one a woman asked the photographer to not take her photo (they are published online), he told her it was a public space and he’d do what he wanted. It kicked off and people have reported her to park run HQ to ask her to be banned because apparently she told him to fuck off.
