Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Parkrun are no fan of women. This weekend at my local one a woman asked the photographer to not take her photo (they are published online), he told her it was a public space and he’d do what he wanted. It kicked off and people have reported her to park run HQ to ask her to be banned because apparently she told him to fuck off.

Once again, although I like the basic idea of parkrun, I find something aggressively blokeish about it.

That's not been my experience, having been involved in my local parkrun since its inception. But it's a very broad church.

I do get amused by the people - and many of them are indeed men - who get all hot under the collar about IT'S A RUN NOT A RACE and about the name being all lowercase, don't you dare call it Park Run! It can sound a bit cultish at times!

Anyway they didn't do a great job of scribbling out the words on the t-shirts, did they 😄

Oh dear, just 187 took part this weekend. That's already a fall of nearly a fifth. Doesn't seem to have much legs, does it?

Over 600 members. So that's nice. But as Helle says, it's not just about numbers.

Nobody is jeering at other running groups for the number of people joining them!

And of those just 187 ran this week - down from 246 for the big launch. This is only going one way. But you're certainly correct that this is definitely not just about (dwindling) numbers...

Oh, alcove. Never change! 😆

No shit! 😆

Some of them take it extraordinarily seriously. And get very cross about funnels. Whatever they are.

(I found somewhere beginning with X, fwiw, that could be very easily made the start point of an existing race....)

Please explain what you mean by this? Surely you're not just trying to make a dig, alcove?

Oh is this a dig because I called out another for doing that? How mature and not at all Mean Girls esque!

I'm always keen to expand my understanding of English idiom. What is the difference between 'calling out' and 'challenging'?

Doesn’t that mean you need to make it your personal mission to ensure they all feel as comfortable as they can? Have you checked if there are any accomodations you could support with so they feel more welcomed
as a marginalised group?

Just out of interest - who is paying me exactly? And how much? Do I need to invoice?

Wouldn't that be lovely? Helpfully our local run WhatsApp group had quite the discussion when two of them turned up. One is a known trouble-maker and I don't think her poor friend had any idea what she was being dragged into.

Alcovecupboards can always be relied upon to stick up for the men in dresses.

I find most people are decent and tend to side against bigotry. But hey, you've got 187 people running! Next weekend you might have a whopping 130. Which I believe was the number of one trans inclusive hiking group's trip out last month. At some point people will stand realising that nonsense like this just doesn't work and we'll see a return to sensible viewpoints.

Ohai there <waves>

GreenwayHouse · Yesterday 23:05

“Sensible viewpoints” like believing men can magically become women just because they say so?

Who believes that? I don't.

Sooooooo how does a man (a penis haver, for clarity) become a woman (the cunty type)?

So why have all your posts that I’ve seen on Mumsnet been arguing for the men in dresses to be in women’s spaces and able to take part in things like parkrun as women if you know that they are not women? Why do you call people bigots and transphobes if you know men can’t become women?
Why do you jump on every thread with spiteful gloating towards those women who want to protect their spaces and who (also) know that men can’t magically women?

I think I’d have more respect for you if you actually did believe that people could change sex (barking though that is).

My questions are rhetorical. I know I’m not going to get a sensible answer. You’re just going to witter on about transphobes and bigots.
