Petition urges LondonMayor to scrap Harry Potter Christmas lights over transphobia

Thousands of people have signed a petition calling on London Mayor Sadiq Khan to cancel Harry Potter-themed Christmas lights planned for Oxford Street this year.

The display is intended to promote the forthcoming Harry Potter TV series, but campaigners object to the promotion of JK Rowling's work due to what they argue are here anti-trans views.

Signatories to the petition, which was organised by the Good Law Project, also say the lights will leave trans people feeling unwelcome and unsafe in one of London's best-known festive locations.

Could someone explain to these people that others are not responsible for how they react to things? I mean, I found the LBTQ etc flags in Regent St pretty threatening, but suspect that had I said so that sympathy would have been in short supply

Edited

Those flags were really creepy. Looked like a political rally.

So nothing to back-up your lies. And you've done more to attack me for criticising that thread than you did criticising that thread and the poster's vile actions.

Keep going.
Show yourself.

Back to this again. Yawn.

I've just agreed with you. It doesn't happen. No-one on Mumsnet ever demands that anyone not fully MumsnetGC should leave or not be interacted with because we must not have dissenting opinions!

The Daily Mail, the BBC, the Guardian... Of course, weirdly, her being a well-known GC wasn't mentioned. But if she had been trans - it would have been the first thing mentioned. Very hypocritical.

Is she a ‘well-known GC’? I’d never heard of her.

(And if you’re that interested there’s a thread on the politics board, assuming it’s the same person. Off you pop)

You've shown yourself as a liar. That's clear for anyone who actually saw the thread in question. I've met women like you before, and I see you for what you are. That upsets you.

So many of you desperate to stop any and all dissenting voices.

Yes, alcove might think this is a new tactic, but this isn't our first rodeo, unfortunately.

Cleverer and more articulate posters have tried

You are the poster that goes onto a maths forum and tries to insist 4+4=10, gets your arse handed to you then runs away crying. Or stays around in this case 😐

Edited to add: and bleats ‘the feminism anti trans boards just won’t let me make my anti woman even though imma big feminist’ statements’ 😭😩.

It's been obvious for quite a long while you've got a deep-seated problem with other women.

Im guessing some sort of past trauma, perhaps even from school.

Such profound inner unhappiness with oneself isn't at all healthy.

Do you actually believe that any of you are capable of that? Oh dear, you must go outside and find some sort of real social interaction.

I'm not trying to be funny here. I read the online MSM and i l have not seen anything about this. This does really worry me. Please provide just one link? This cannot be right.

You'll have to try again, I'm afraid. I love other women. The nice, decent kind who aren't twisted by bigotry.

I thought you were desperate to discuss it. I’m doing you the favour of pointing you in the direction of an existing thread.

I also did a quick and dirty search for her name. Turns out the ‘well-known GC’ doesn’t appear to ever have been as much as mentioned on these boards, so not that well-known here at least.

Perhaps someone deleted them just like several publications are deleting her pontifications on children?

Not really, you're lecturing, scolding, dissembling, and refusing to provide evidence to back up your pseudo points. It's not really discussing.

There's Harry Potter merchandise being sold everywhere at the moment, WB are obviously going all out but the retailers wouldn't play along if they didn't believe there was a market for it. Actually, I suppose Tesco, M&S, ad infinitum (or their suppliers) pay WB or whoever for a license to use the HP likenesses. They wouldn't do that if they didn't expect a return on their investments. Loads of Harry Potter lego, Care Bears, clothing in John Lewis. The Christmas decorations don't seem to be listed yet. There are lots of companies who seem to be expecting that this will be huge.
