Petition urges LondonMayor to scrap Harry Potter Christmas lights over transphobia

Thousands of people have signed a petition calling on London Mayor Sadiq Khan to cancel Harry Potter-themed Christmas lights planned for Oxford Street this year.

The display is intended to promote the forthcoming Harry Potter TV series, but campaigners object to the promotion of JK Rowling's work due to what they argue are here anti-trans views.

Signatories to the petition, which was organised by the Good Law Project, also say the lights will leave trans people feeling unwelcome and unsafe in one of London's best-known festive locations.

I never thought I'd say this, and I'm probably going to regret it the second I post it, but at least...at least...posters like Howsebaileychopping have the courage of their convictions and have some kind of point to make, even if the majority think it's nonsense and they get huge pushback. There is at least some kind of engagement there, muddled though it is.

But this poster? Nothing. Nada. Absolutely zip.

Edited

Like Tandora. Where did that poster go. The most batshit TRA ally ‘there are more than two sexes’ and all manner of wacko mental gymnastics to defend gender ideology but at least stuck to their batshitterry no matter what.

Quite. Vacuous and vicious does not a good mix make.

Howsegretelchoppingbailey seems almost coherent in comparison.

Yes they did. And yes it was disgusting before it got swiftly deleted. And yes, YOU swooped in on it immediately to weaponise that death in order to have a go at FWR posters! What a surprise!

No compassion or respect uttered for the victim. Nothing.

So that's a rape case AND a murder case you've utilised to sneer at posters on here.

Classy behaviour. Really classy.

It wasn't 'swiftly deleted'. And nor did I weaponise it. What a vile thing to say.

Wait! What? A well known conservative 'gender critical' woman has been arrested under suspicion of having indecent images of children. How did all the news media miss this? Where do you get this deep reporting? Please share your sources?

The Daily Mail, the BBC, the Guardian... Of course, weirdly, her being a well-known GC wasn't mentioned. But if she had been trans - it would have been the first thing mentioned. Very hypocritical.

Hardly, the bbc and guardian tie themselves in knots trying not to point out the trans status of a criminal (note this woman has not been convicted) even in the face of photos.

It was deleted after about five or six posts.

And you used it entirely to make a sneering point about FWR posters.

I saw it because I commented on the thread! As you well know.

Now here you are, trying to make out I'm saying something "vile" (good mumsnet word there). You know what you posted.

Wouldn't go that far murasaki 😄

I dont think there is any need for those on a forum for anyone who believe in women's sex based rights and are gender critical, to respond to those who dont.

Any more than a pro-abortion campaign and support group should have to deal with interlopers.

They keep coming back because too many respond to the obvious derails.

They could easily ask MNHQ to set up a forum for those who believe you can change sex, so as to in a positive way progress their belief set. As opposed to gatecrashing at every opportunity each new thread on FWR.

Would you like to offer up a purity test for people so you can have a nice echo chamber? Wouldn't want anyone to disagree with anything you post, eh?

It's a good idea, but a bit like 4th spaces (given that accessible are the 3rd), they don't want it, they want us to agree with them here. So like 4th spaces, they won't fight for it. Or even ask politely.

I said the thread was yet another example of transphobia on here - which it was. And that deleting it wouldn't make it go away - but it would make it easy for others to pretend it doesn't happen. Or do you suggest I said something else?

If any of you had a convincing argument, sure, have at it. I'm yet to see one.

It's a bit masochistic of you.

An echo chamber, like Reddit, would have you deleted. Yet here you are…

And how is calling for all dissenting opinions to be banned any different? Just own the hypocrisy.

You jumped straight on the thread to use it against posters here, to generalise, to smear.
You didn't challenge the OP. You didn't show any respect for the victim (as the OP also didn't, which I pointed out). You made use of the thread entirely to have go at FWR posters. We've seen it time and time again, and we're well aware of what you're doing.

murasaki · Yesterday 22:47

Yes, alcove might think this is a new tactic, but this isn't our first rodeo, unfortunately.

I did no such thing. I did nothing more than what I described in the post you quoted. Stop lying.

So nothing to back-up your lies. And you've done more to attack me for criticising that thread than you did criticising that thread and the poster's vile actions.
