Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women's pub. Nothing in the food or drink can harm you, everything is served by a very enthusiastic crew of gerbils, who enjoy doing this and other interesting things. Any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road.

Maybe report & ask HQ why.

Thank you, I have, didn’t know you could do that 😐
Edited to say that the moment may have passed! No worries.

Boiledbeetle · 13/10/2026 12:53

@MyrtleLion Can you just go back out and come back in again, they are having cake placement issues

So the cake topper has gone back to the kitchen for minor repair work. Luckily the gerbils had a spare, of course they did bless em.

That's amazing! And it worked!

I got the job.

That is fantastic news. I am so thrilled for you.

EdithStourton · 13/10/2026 14:25

WELL DONE MYRTLE!

Brains wouldn't trust Batshit with the Bolly, but I'm a little worried that she might drop it.

I'm just going to smuggle out some of that salmon quiche for them...

Isn’t that thread title prescient?!

Thank you.

Thank you, everyone for your lovely comments and celebrations. It hasn’t really sunk in yet - I need to get my references sorted out, and remember how this “work” and “job” business are actually coped with.

I’m so touched by the outpouring of warmth and support for me. 💙💙💙

They plan on easing you back in to takes no shit, knows what she's doing, work mode via the medium of snacks and cake.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/10/2026 15:03

Colin doesn’t dance but he indicates he will make himself extremely useful clearing up cake crumbs. Halo

The last week before work will be tough. They plan on not talking to you and pretending they can't see you (cos you're at work) during work hours, except during the lunch hour.

I suspect there will be gerbil tears.

That looks lovely, & well done gerbils; however...

I do not profess to be an expert in the field of celebratory catering (though my friends say I have quite the eye & can certainly make a good sandwich) but I can tell you, there is a shocking lack of Tunnocks!

Really?

Don't know where they could have gone.

I still have done NOTHING.

The Pyrex discussion reminded me that I gave away my perfect old (1985) Pyrex lasagne dish several years ago because "Oh, I never make lasagne in this, let's get rid of it. I need the space." So, to the charity shop it went.

Now I need a perfect lasagne dish, and, from what I read, the New Pyrex has a tendency to explode (as per usual with everything today: Not Well-Made), so there's no point in buying a new one.

I have got to stop getting rid of things!

ps. All this AI talk across a few threads is making me feel a bit queasy. I don't understand any of it, I don't care, and I never realized how difficult creating the Gosie stories could be!

I'd better go find something useful to do...

Trying to skim to catch-up after a 5 day hiatus (visitors) but had to stop to reply here. When my mother (in charge of a large high school kitchen) retired in 1980 she treated herself to some new cookware to go with her newly-renovated kitchen at home. Her choice was Pyrosil hob to oven to table ware which she loved. When sadly she died less only 2 years later and her house had to be sold, my sisters decided I should have the Pyrosil for MY newly-renovated kitchen. Over 40 years on I still use it regularly and it's absolutely marvellous. Totally unchipped after all these years and washes like a dream. It also reminds me of her every time I use it. 💕

Thehorticulturalhussie · 13/10/2026 15:35

@NotAtMyAge that's lovely though sad of course that she died so soon after retiring. I have cutlery received by my parents as a wedding gift in 1954. Very non-PC as it has (discoloured) ivory handles, I use it when baking. And I have just acquired my recently passed MiL's mixing bowls so I think of them every time I open the baking drawer and cupboards.

Awwww.

They’ve really thought this through, even down to ignoring me to get me ready for work 💙

I will still be here, just not as frequently, and mostly during the evenings. I’m not planning on leaving at all.

I was worried about changing my breakfast time to before 9am as we eat between 11am and 7pm, but then I realised the ADHD meds have brought my weight down to a BMI of 24.5 so I can probably relent on breakfast time.

Other decisions to be made today: do we eat at the restaurant by the river tonight or on Thursday? We are having champagne at home this evening already, and I have some birthday Prosecco due at the restaurant (part of their loyalty programme), so I’m thinking Thursday.

Do we go away for a luxury hotel break in the UK this weekend, or next? I am thinking this weekend because of half term next weekend. We haven’t been able to afford a holiday this year, so we thought we’d splash out a bit.

Do we buy beef for next week’s dinners (the Walrus batch cooks a roast every weekend and we eat it over the week) as it’s really pricey and we deserve a treat?

Do everything sooner, that way when you are panicking about not being ready for starting work you don't have other plans taking up headspace.

You want bland boring weeks leading up to work. A nice empty head. Not loads of shit jumping around in thers going me!Me!me! Pay attention to this completely irrelevant thing.
