Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women's pub. Nothing in the food or drink can harm you, everything is served by a very enthusiastic crew of gerbils, who enjoy doing this and other interesting things. Any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road.

I hope it takes forever to get to the end of the story. 1) because I don't want it to end and 2) because I want you to be gainfully employed, earning real money, not Bluestocking money that we pay the gerbils with!

Aww, thank you!

My original plan for the ending of this one was too complicated to finish in 20,000 words so it will appear in another story in the future. In any case would normally take a few weeks off before starting the next one - we had the Gerbil World Cup between Books I and II. So I'll see how tired and fed up I am by the job (assuming I get it) before I will be able to gauge how long, how often and when I will start the next one.

@MyrtleLion, we love the Gosie Chronicles but of course we’d rather you got a job.

Turning to the Woolly Hugs Christmas auction, this is the baby blanket I knitted earlier this year.

I would be happy to donate it to the auction if any of you think it would sell.

Do let me know what you think.

I thought my cousin who made her husband wash his knob in dettol first was a bit ott. I imagine if boiling water had been a legal option she'd have chosen that.

Just normal water and soap would be great. I imagine. Haven't had occasion to test this theory for a few years

I used the lasagne dish to make flapjacks earlier. And now I can't stop looking at the lasagne dish.

I want lasagne so bad right now.

Do any of the gerbils make a really good one? And are they on shift tonight?

Lego, it's too late for a nap.

Good call. I'm building Barad-dûr at the moment, just put in another section of floor.

The really good news is that Gorgonzola is running the kitchen ATM. She uses fresh sheets of lasagne, a ragu that contains both minced beef and minced pork with plenty of basil and rejects that anaemic bechemal sauce in favour of a proper cheese sauce.

@MyrtleLion do you know me irl?

"I asked."said JanesLittleGirl. "People generally answer my questions."

This happens. I ask politely with an open face and people have no reason to answer my question. Unless they do have a reason. But there are ways and means of helping people to decide that this reason is not a good reason.

No reason to not answer my question. FFS.

Aww that's the sweetest blanket I've seen in forever, how lovely! They'd be lucky to have that as a donation 😍

Stuffed. I'm absolutely stuffed. But I did have 3 portions so I'm not surprised.

Someone come unlace me.

My compliments to Gorgonzola, it was amazing.

I've just been nosing around the NHS app looking to see if an apt for something had been made. I was rather annoyed to discover it had been made and then cancelled.

I'm not sure whether to be relieved or not as I wouldn't have fancied such an early apt time:

That is lasagne. No idea how to cook it. Great at eating it.

EdithStourton · 12/10/2026 22:30

Myrtle
As she folded the padding over it, the light it cast on the floor disappeared. Batshit looked at the place where it had been, then up at Edith.
That is Batshit all over. Baffled by daily life.

Lovely blanket by the way. My knitting has been thwarting me of late - one project stalled (I need to try something on the recipient, who is proving elusive), once came up too big, and one I cocked up. I've frogged a chunk of that one, but haven't yet worked out exactly where the problem is.

I've been wating since 1st April for an appointment.
I'd probably take 2.45a.m. if that stops them booking me in for the week before Christmas, which is probably what will happen.

I'd have taken the apt if given the chance! I presume as it's marked to be reviewed tomorrow they just stuck in a placemarker appointment then cancelled it to get it in the system. Probably makes their stats look better somehow.

I can cook it, and I do make a decent one. But these days if I can't go in the kitchen make food and be eating it in under 5/6 minutes it's usually not happening.

I have really been wrestling with AI tonight. This is what happens when I get close to the end, it decides it won't co-operate and it starts to pull together all the tiny suggestions and thoughts I've had along the way, especially if I have discarded them and not thought about them again for 35 chapters.

For example, I had Hedgehog make a throwaway remark about Gosie mimicking Halcyon, "we'll come back to that", and it keeps telling me we haven't come back to Gosie and her mimicking.

Anyway, the next chapter will be a bit more detailed than the last two, and I will publish it tomorrow. I hope you enjoy it.

That blanket is so sweet, @MyrtleLion !

Bore da, maidin maith and good morning everyone, I hope everyone is OK as poss this - glances outside - bright sunny autumn morning - it keeps alternating here between dreech and depressing and blue skies and sunshine.
It was very warm here yesterday, 17 degrees at times. I had the kitchen door open and there was a bird singing loudly in a neighbour's tree - so springlike🙃

MarieDeGournay · 13/10/2026 09:13

The cheerbils are doing a 24-hour cheerathon for you, Myrtle, they're going to keep going till you get good feedback todaySmile
You can't see it in this picture, but the back of those banners says 'Get Your Act Together NHS!', and every now and then they switch around the banners and wave their pom-poms in support of anyone trying to get an appointmentConfused
