Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women's pub. Nothing in the food or drink can harm you, everything is served by a very enthusiastic crew of gerbils, who enjoy doing this and other interesting things. Any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road.

😶

You make 1 rat recipe joke and suddenly everywhere you look there's a rat glaring at you. I may need to borrow a couple of the security capybaras.

🐀🐁🐀🐁🐀🐁🐀🐁

be very aware

I’m still in bed but looking forward to Dr Bessie and team’s visit - they do do house calls? Never mind, I’ll pop into the Bluestocking shortly for some expert attention and cosseting.

I'll just wave at you from afar when you come in. Wouldn't want the rats thinking you were a co-conspirator of mine given you're not well enough to run from them.

Also, is it possible to catch Naomi's cold just by watching the tribunal?

Gesundheit could you bring me a new box of tissues please. The soft ones with balm to stop the chafing round the nose.

Ta.

You might have caught it from me, I was very sorry for Naomi, know just how she felt. There's a thread about it in chat if you want to tick off symptoms. The sore nostrils are particularly niche.

Colds used to be easy and you knew exactly what you were getting.

I hate that there is now always that small moment of 'wonder if it's Covid?' Whenever a normal bog standard cold starts.

I shall fortify myself with hot chocolate and Caramel Wafers with the odd beechams capsule thrown in for good measure

I'm being told by the advert bar to 'Acheter maintenant un robot de cuisine'.

Was MN listening in on the conversation about Duolingo that I had the other yesterday, about restarting French.

NB The robot de cuisine is a Magimix-type thing. Not a version of Android to be be let loose in the kitchen to deal with all the catering.

DeanElderberry · 04/10/2026 11:45

Hot honey-and-cider-vinegar drinks are very soothing for the razor blade throat.

Lemon works too, but the vinegar 'with the mother' is best.

I'd much rather have an actual robot to do my cuisining. Then I could have stayed in bed for longer rather than having to get up and put a casserole in the slow cooker.

If anyone needs anything that isn't miraculously already in the pub Maud has got a new job.

Amazon are apparently currently trialling drone deliveries in Darlington. Luckily the pub is anywhere and everywhere at any moment in time.

She looks so sweet in her new uniform. I'm not sure her legs will be very comfortable in that tight space though.

Maybe Gubbins generation would fit better? Just NOT Gubbins!

Can anyone manage to say the following without tripping over their own tongue?

Only if I deploy my most cut-glass RP accent! I'm normally RP, but not full on 1950s BBC announcer.

Even Co Pilot just called me an ant and swapped my slippers without asking.

It's just not fair.

Sneaky copilot! It's supposed to work for you not try to wind you up!

When you point out its egregious behaviour it will say

Oh yes beetle, I am terribly sorry, you are perfectly right to call that out! Would you like me to correct the picture of boiled beetle to make beetle look properly like a beetle, with beetle like legs and beetle head, wearing the correct Highland cow slippers?

When you say yes I would, refraining from the comment that it shouldn't have done that in the first place, it will reply with another long winded and grovelling statement and not show you the picture. After a few of these exchanges, it will reproduce the picture to be almost exactly the way it was when you complained.

Gemini does exactly the same.
"Here is your corrected picture with all the things you originally asked for but I mysteriously omitted"
"No, that's the same picture as last time and it's still wrong"
"Is it? No, I definitely made the corrections"
"Stop lying to me and do it properly"
"Here is your corrected picture with all the things you originally asked for but I mysteriously omitted"
"It's still wrong"
"Oh. You're quite right, I got it wrong. I'm now going to sulk and refuse to do any more pictures until you say sorry and mean it"

I paraphrase, obviously...

There's a website selling, well, gift style stuff mostly, called Not On The High Street.

On it you can buy a Cheeses of the World poster.

Some may feel that there are cheeses missing.

Edited

Have managed to extricate myself from cheese rabbit-hole ... down which I found that there are more than 400 different cheese varieties in France alone

EmpressaurusKitty · 04/10/2026 12:34

Gemini told me a couple of times that it didn’t do pictures, then agreed that actually it did.

I had to be fairly firm with it on my last Boily pic because it really wanted to say BOILY IS A PUTTLE.

I had words last night!! It then went to great lengths to tell me that it wasn't becoming sentient and thinking for itself but had merely applied waffle algorithms waffle waffle and deduced I'd like bunny slippers with my bunny pjs.

It did offer to correct, but knowing I would just end up with another image with bunny rabbit slippers I declined.

DeanElderberry · 04/10/2026 12:41

Bing is slightly sounder on beetleness but dodgy on Tunnocks and highland cattle. The image with slightly better slippers and teacakes has you in pj top only, which is very scandalous. and not very hygienic imo.

The rats are keeping you on the watch list and I don't altogether blame them, but I'll try to explain about jokes by telling them about my fellow Dean's Modest Proposal.

Gemini was very dodgy on Tunnocks for ages, but seems to have worked it out now. On one occasion I eventually got it to find a picture of an actual Tunnocks teacake, and use that design. What came out was flat biscuits wrapped in blue and gold foil. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Apologies, this will only tip you further into the cheese rabbit hole, but it's a very good book. Same guy has done a book about British cheese too.

Hello all
I seem to have missed so much in just a few weeks, I'm not going to be able to catch up because so much seems to have happened. To those who have had trials, tribulations and ill health I hope that the support gerbils et al are helping.
I have been watching the SP thread recently, that's been interesting.
If there are any gerbils behind the bar could I please have a very large hot chocolate with a splash of decent brandy, thank you.

To be honest I like a breeze on my nether regions!

I actually love the slippers in the first image. I bet they are really toasty in winter!

I keep trying to catch up, but then get immediately sidetracked, so still haven't. I must catch up on the stained glass saga though!

I've been out seeing art and nature and all sorts of lovely things. It's been splendid.

I send a bouquet of birdsong and autumn foliage to all who would like some.
