This workshop will bring together cis women who have undergone breast surgery (due to cancer, or other health reasons) and trans and non-binary individuals (including those who do or do not undertake gender-affirming surgeries or hormone therapy). It will be a fun, safe, brave, explorative space. The main activity will be ‘body mapping’ where participants, if they wish, lie on big pieces of paper on the ground, on which an outline of their bodies is drawn. Participants then fill in their outline with pictures or words about feelings and experiences, which they can share with the group if they wish. Body mapping is followed by discussion on connections and differences between the two groups.

So what do breast cancer survivors have to do with “trans and non binary” people? You've got one group who had to have their breasts removed in very upsetting and difficult circumstances and another group who want to have their breasts removed and see having them removed as a source of joy. This cannot end well.

It's appalling and an insult to breast cancer survivors. I will be gobsmacked if any sign up for it.

The workshop will be facilitated by a three-person team. One of us is trans, two of us are cis women who have had mastectomies.

Decades in fact centuries of women having no choice but to be handmaidens to men's view of the world, and yet in 21st Century where not totally but by and large women dont have to be men's handmaidens, some are voluntarily choosing to be one.

We've had 3rd wave & 4th wave feminism.

Are we now in the era of transed feminism.

Me and my cut-up boobs aren't available as therapy aids for others with body issues to play with. Whoever is hoping to lead this with a room full of vulnerable people has the biggest issues of all. Ffs.

I’ve had surgery for breast cancer and all I can say is WTAF.
No way would I attend an event where I’m referred to as ‘cis’.
It is totally tone deaf mixing women who have had mastectomies/lumpectomies with those who have chosen to remove their breast due to misogynistic stereotypes/gender woo.

You'll only be told you're pearl clutchy and whatever the current buzzword is for frigid. I'd be a lot more interested in the qualifications of the leaders, and how they intend to pick up the pieces of this going hideously wrong if this mix of people with very varied and not at all intersecting vulnerabilities turns out to devastate one, or a few.

It might be useful for detransitioned women who had mastectomies and now regret it. I don’t know if it would be insensitive to cancer survivors to share the experience though, it seems like two distinct groups.

I think it might be more than insensitive. It would probably be horribly offensive to the cancer survivors. Can you imagine going there and being around people who actively want to remove the body parts you have just lost?

I see it is being held at the Feminist Library, and it does sort of sound like the sort of trans acolyte type event they would put on.

But it maybe that they are just letting out their meeting room or something.

There have been earlier threads about how the current "management" of the Feminist Library are trans cuckoos who have appropriated an early Women's Liberation endeavour to preserve feminist writing in a safe women only environment.
