Hello everyone. I,ve not posted for months but I noticed a programme about declining funding & support for Pride events and the possble ireasons why.

I've not heard it myself yet so can't give an opinion and I suspect the content will be very familiar to readers of this board but it might be worth a listen.

Thanks, I’ll have a listen

Turned it off after listening to bleats about progress flag being taken down ....

Just caught the end of it and there was a gay councillor lamenting that LGB had been taken over by the trans alphabetties, which was causing the old gay prejudices to resurface. Must listen to the whole, thing later.

I don't need to listen to it, gay acquaintances tell me they want nothing to do with Pride because it's openly homophobic and in complete denial about same sex attraction.

This isn't Working also, did a great breakdown about why companies are moving away from Pride:

Pride was about getting equality for same-sex attracted people. They have equality now. I think it is important to remind and celebrate progress and protections for people who have been horrifically discriminated against in the past, but a whole month seems redundant now. Women don't get a whole month. Younger people meet online and don't want to go out and be hedonistic in the way that Canal Street is famous for.

Also, a lot of the support for the gay community came from women. A lot of the campaigning against JK Rowling and Kathleen Stock initially, and the gaslighting and abuse, came from gay men just piling on. Drag Ballroom culture is straight-up misogyny and is now mainstream.

My gay friends say the same

I listened to it and was completely underwhelmed. There was no in depth discussion or investigation into why Manchester Pride went bust or why pride celebrations have become less popular nationally; no discussion of trans issues other than a fleeting reference to recent 'policies' and some talk about how trans people are '..some of the most vulnerable is society...',
Not really sure what the point of it was other than the presenter being happy that his home town now had a pride celebration and he wished it had had one when he had been living there.

I caught part of it driving back from the supermarket, so haven't heard the beginning or the end.

I found what I did hear quite superficial, and maybe they talked to females at other parts of the programme, but the part I heard was male voice after male voice after male voice. However, this is the BBC. What else would I expect?

They interviewed a 'Josh' fairly early on who was clearly a woman, and then man who was introduced with a female name so I suppose they would say that counts towards the total. There was a woman speaking from a support centre in Newcastle but they didn't say who she was. Maybe she was a lesbian and therefore not worthy of being named? Can't remember any other women being allowed to speak. Plus ca change...

(Sorry, don't know how to do the cedilla thing before the pedants strike! )
